    Thank you for this very well-detailed tutorial. A friend suggested using Handbreak for some old DVDs I had and this video helped me figure it out.

    Thank you so much for this! Handbrake was failing to rip and I couldn't figure out why. This worked for me and it's ripping properly now!

    Dumbofab DVD Ripper is a strong contender if you need a more professional or feature-rich tool compared to HandBrake. It’s particularly useful for those who require specific features or a more streamlined workflow for handling large numbers of DVDs, especially the copy protected DVDs. For a project as extensive as ripping 1200 episodes of "Dark Shadows," having a tool that offers speed and customization can be a significant advantage.

    Handbrake is an amazing piece of software. I have used it for vhs, but had old security footage I needed to convert and do not have a total grasp. Great tutorial.

    Thanks! this was exactly what I was looking for. I will add that the only step missing--because I just downloaded Handbrake, is that when I tried to add a second clip to the queue, it gave me an error that it has the same name as the one I added. So I had to go into the Tools menu, and in Preferences had to click a couple things so each clip would create a unique name. I think it was something about Automatically naming files, and I could also add different elements to the auto naming function

    Great job on the Handbrake tutorial, thank you. What are using to postprocess/deinterlace? Do you have a video on that too?

    Are we going to lose any quality by converting to mp4?... i hope not...
    Also I want to make sure I dont enhance the quality at all (i know you addressed that in the video).. want to keep the optimum size.

    • @gamedirection_us
      @gamedirection_us 8 місяців тому

      TLDR: No, changing the name from M4V to MP4 will not degrade your quality.
      PS: You can set it to mp4 before encoding in the save to folder section and it will export to that format.
      The MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) and M4V formats are closely related as both are video file formats based on the MPEG-4 standard. However, there are some key differences:
      MP4:
      - This is a standard multimedia container format that can store video, audio, subtitles, and images. It is widely supported across various devices and media players.
      - Generally, MP4 files do not have DRM protection unless specifically added.
      - Highly compatible with almost all media players, operating systems, and mobile devices.
      - More universal in usage across various platforms and applications.
      M4V:
      - Developed by Apple, this format is very similar to MP4 but is specifically used in Apple’s iTunes and other Apple devices. It often contains Apple's FairPlay DRM copyright protection.
      - Often includes DRM protection when downloaded from Apple’s iTunes Store, restricting the file to be played only on authorized computers and devices.
      - Primarily designed for Apple ecosystems. Although non-DRM M4V files can be played on non-Apple devices, DRM-protected M4V files require Apple’s authorization via iTunes.
      - Often preferred for video files intended specifically for use within the Apple ecosystem, particularly those involving DRM protections.
      In practice, the difference often comes down to the use of DRM and the ecosystem (Apple versus more universal platforms). Many devices and players that support MP4 can also play M4V files, especially if they are not DRM-protected.

    Over the years I've learned to always change framerate to same as source and variable. From what I understand that makes an exact copy of the original framerate.... but also... with interlaced material... decomb/default seems to work well... I also turn detelicine to default (just in case) and on the video tab under encode speed I change it to slow... I don't like fast... You could do medium.... if I don't do all of these things, I will get jerky or jutter sometimes during panning up/down, side to side, etc...but with these settings it's butter smooth (at least with 480p DVD interlaced sources)

    Thank you Gary from me too! Other videos were did not work for me, but yours works! Nice job. One addition - when I went to add videos to the queue, Handbrake complained. I had to first go into Preferences and check "Automatically name output files" for the queue to not complain.

    hey i have videos that are 144p, i don't see a resolution lower than that. I can however go to measurements and adjust the max reolution size to 192 x 144 (what is shown on the source in brackets, 176x144 is the one shown outside of the brackets)
    is this a good way to rip those videos?

    In the newer version, there is an option called "Passthru common metadata" that is selected by default. Should this be selected?

    Why is this?

    If you had set the quality settings to default, would it still rip properly or do you have to set the quality settings to the same as the DVD settings so it can rip properly?

    Is there a way to convert the vob files to mp4 as separate files. I have a dvd that has the main feature, which is a vob file and the dvd has a bonus section which is a vob file. I would like to convert the vobs to mp4, then put them into my editing software and make one mp4 with both files. Make sense?

    Hi. When I follow your steps and the 3.99 GB DVD is only 1 GB and loses quality. What should I do to make it weigh the same?

    • @jaredx2
      @jaredx2  2 роки тому +1

      Well it will never be the same size because one is MPG2 and the other is MPG4 (at least in this case) - you can always use a different preset for encoding. But even at identical visual quality an MPG4 should be smaller as it is more efficient.

      There are numerous tracks on most discs. I've found that if you want the "video" files, you should click on the track with the longest playback time. This generally gives you a file of the movie itself, with no menus or extras.

    I usually make an image file of DVD on my hard drive first, bcuz any minute an old dvd and dvd player can stop running bcuz of errors.
    and I use PotPlayer for playinf videos and most of audio files bcuz VLC has so many bugs and errors.
    Cheers.

    • @jaredx2
      @jaredx2  3 роки тому +1

      You would have to make a video DVD. A DVD is a data disk that is formatted in a particular way. The movie, the menu, etc. To do this you need to create a DVD in a DVD authoring package such as - tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/taw6.html almost all programs that do this are commercial. My tutorial is about how to extract the video file from the DVD and then transcode it into a different file format.

      You might need to Partition it, or you've selected a smaller partition.
