I'm in South Texas and pretty much all the ice cream trucks that drive by my house and my mom's house have either the Wolo 345 or the Vixen Horns (usually with Lambada). However my friends and family members are lucky because they get different songs. My aunt gets a truck that plays The Picnic on the Omni and I'm so jealous of her...
The Vixen seems to share a similar sound chip to the 2003-11 model of the Wolo 345, and not the current model. The old model sounds like it has out-of-tune notes, whereas the current one doesn't.

Wow! This has some awesome sound quality! How much are these? I really want one! Imagine if I was playing this in my neighborhood and riding around with it blasting loud on my bike? Thanks, I tapped the circuit and connected the signal directly to my Sony recorder. I got the whole Wolo 345 set (Main unit, speaker, mic) from Canada Amazon for CAD$60, I think you can purchase it for less than $40 in the US. Just get a small 12V rechargeable battery and you can carry it with your bike.
Can you please do a video of the Vixen Horns 46 sounds music box with your Sony Recorder? I'd love to hear what it sounds like in HQ audio, and no one on UA-cam has done a video of one with high quality sound yet. I hope that they aren't too pricy to get.
I think you mean HT3810. Oh this series of three-pin melody chip! I tried so hard to obtain them about six months ago in China along with another similar model M994A, but as it's discontinued about 20 year ago, either the supplier don't have or even know this model, or they ask for a crazy price per piece or MOQ. I'm sorry I am not able to get them for now, but I will keep on trying.
If you don't use a Magic Box to play the HT3810s, the songs' pitch and tempo are A LOT higher and faster. I didn't know the Melody ICs were discontinued.
Just asking, does the HT3810 have some of the same songs as the Animal House does, or is made by the same manufacturer so to speak? The Vixen horn, while not made by Wolo, has some of the same songs as the Animal House (such as Lambada, Do Re Mi, etc), so I was wondering if the HT3810 has some of the same songs.
@@Jordanninja09 Yeah, but the problem is, Nichols Electronics doesn't make the original Omni Music Boxes anymore, which is a shame, because I really wanted to get one! They discontinued it, because of the Turkey in the Straw song that was on it! The 32 songs were just too good on it!

Yeah, I actually encountered an ice cream truck using this box in Toronto. I am not sure if the chip uses internal oscillator or external. If it's external you should be able to change the value of a resistor to change the pitch, but if it's internal then the oscillation frequency is preprogrammed when manufacturing.

As for the Nichols Electronics, I'm sorry, but they are not only super expensive which exceeds my budget quite a lot, but also extremely to find (currently only the new OMNI and the one-tune version with ISD recoding chip are available on the official site). Can you do the holtek IC that is on a few ice cream trucks? You can hear a sample of it on a video called "Mary Had A Little Lamb Remix!" I have also heard this music IC play "Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf," "Little Brown Jug," "Popeye The Sailor Man" and It's A Small World." I would like to hear what other songs it has.
Do you mean the HT3810 series? If so, I explained below in the thread with "Temple 92". They are rare so I might cannot get on hold of these in the short period of time. With that being said I am surely interested in this series of melody ICs, since the model list in the product datasheet has so many songs overlapping with the Nichol's OMNI. It also has polyphony and percussion output.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n If you are in America you can just get the controller unit (without speaker) for cheaper. For the recording, I took it apart and traced the wire on circuit board, found the audio signal pin of the main melody chip and tapped a wire from it along with a ground wire. The I drilled a hole on the case and mounted a 3.5mm jack connected to the tapping. So I basically made a "line-level output" for it. Then I just recorded from the newly added audio output port with a SONY digital recorder. If you want to try this yourself, you can learn a little bit of electrical circuit, and search for "circuit bending" tutorials. Almost anything that makes sound can be modified this way to add an audio output port, like toys, keyboards, doorbells, etc.
@@whc2001 Ah. I actually already got one of these. I have an older one too and the notes/timing are kind of different. Now if we could only get this for the original, that has a little more than 16 tunes.

I'm sorry, but the devices by Nichols are not only too expensive for me, but also are extremely difficult to obtain (especially the discontinued one like the DIGITAL or the original OMNI).

The video description says this chip was used in a car horn, is that correct? I don't really understand how that's practical.
Wow! This has some awesome sound quality! How much are these? I really want one! Imagine if I was playing this in my neighborhood and riding around with it blasting loud on my bike? I think that the kids would go completely insane if they heard it and they thought that it was an actual ice cream truck!!
Thanks, I tapped the circuit and connected the signal directly to my Sony recorder. I got the whole Wolo 345 set (Main unit, speaker, mic) from Canada Amazon for CAD$60, I think you can purchase it for less than $40 in the US. Just get a small 12V rechargeable battery and you can carry it with your bike.

I am not sure, but I suppose the chip uses internal oscillator so the pitch of all the units should be the same.

I think you mean HT3810. Oh this series of three-pin melody chip! I tried so hard to obtain them about six months ago in China along with another similar model M994A, but as it's discontinued about 20 year ago, either the supplier don't have or even know this model, or they ask for a crazy price per piece or MOQ. I'm sorry I am not able to get them for now, but I will keep on trying.

If you don't use a Magic Box to play the HT3810s, the songs' pitch and tempo are A LOT higher and faster. I didn't know the Melody ICs were discontinued.
Just asking, does the HT3810 have some of the same songs as the Animal House does, or is made by the same manufacturer so to speak? The Vixen horn, while not made by Wolo, has some of the same songs as the Animal House (such as Lambada, Do Re Mi, etc), so I was wondering if the HT3810 has some of the same songs.

@@Jordanninja09 Yeah, but the problem is, Nichols Electronics doesn't make the original Omni Music Boxes anymore, which is a shame, because I really wanted to get one! They discontinued it, because of the Turkey in the Straw song that was on it! The 32 songs were just too good on it!

Yeah, I actually encountered an ice cream truck using this box in Toronto. I am not sure if the chip uses internal oscillator or external. If it's external you should be able to change the value of a resistor to change the pitch, but if it's internal then the oscillation frequency is preprogrammed when manufacturing.

As for the Nichols Electronics, I'm sorry, but they are not only super expensive which exceeds my budget quite a lot, but also extremely to find (currently only the new OMNI and the one-tune version with ISD recoding chip are available on the official site). Can you do the holtek IC that is on a few ice cream trucks? You can hear a sample of it on a video called "Mary Had A Little Lamb Remix!" I have also heard this music IC play "Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf," "Little Brown Jug," "Popeye The Sailor Man" and It's A Small World." I would like to hear what other songs it has.

Do you mean the HT3810 series? If so, I explained below in the thread with "Temple 92". They are rare so I might cannot get on hold of these in the short period of time. With that being said I am surely interested in this series of melody ICs, since the model list in the product datasheet has so many songs overlapping with the Nichol's OMNI. It also has polyphony and percussion output.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n If you are in America you can just get the controller unit (without speaker) for cheaper. For the recording, I took it apart and traced the wire on circuit board, found the audio signal pin of the main melody chip and tapped a wire from it along with a ground wire. The I drilled a hole on the case and mounted a 3.5mm jack connected to the tapping. So I basically made a "line-level output" for it. Then I just recorded from the newly added audio output port with a SONY digital recorder. If you want to try this yourself, you can learn a little bit of electrical circuit, and search for "circuit bending" tutorials. Almost anything that makes sound can be modified this way to add an audio output port, like toys, keyboards, doorbells, etc.
@@whc2001 Ah. I actually already got one of these. I have an older one too and the notes/timing are kind of different. Now if we could only get this for the original, that has a little more than 16 tunes.

I'm sorry, but the devices by Nichols are not only too expensive for me, but also are extremely difficult to obtain (especially the discontinued one like the DIGITAL or the original OMNI).
