I am a Trek fan going back 26 years and Armada I and II were such great games back in the day... The second one was kinda overdone with extra resources etc but it looked awesome. I always felt that the first game was essentially Age of Empires II but set in space and the strategy to that game was so good. Thus far watching this its cool looking but it doesn't feel like old school Armada to me. Back in the early 2000's I felt that the Armada games, along with Elite Force and Bridge Commander, were some of the best Star Trek games they ever made. I do miss the golden age of Trek. :(
the first Star Trek Armada to me had the best gameplay. and they had the perfect music themes for each level and race. the borg and klingon especially.
YOU ROCK MAN, i miss so much a good RTS game , i play AGE of EMPIRE 2, Starcraft and not last ARMADA 2 , this one over and over, i didnt knew ARMADA 3 even exist, fast jump to download the game, havent watched a single min your tutorial yet , first download... I WANT IT
Yes! The play throughs of STA are back! Yes it is from far far away and yes it is a Star Destroyer... Im hoping this video brings back a few players into this mod, i wanna play with people again! Hope Gul is watching and laughing as always! Keep it up shack!
Shack, literally been waiting YEARS for you to come back to Armada III. Yes, devs have a new version coming out, because new DLC has been released for the base game. Meanwhile, there's LOTS of stuff you never did when you previously played that I know you'd love, ALL of which is available to a Fed player. Quick, but long, list to follow: 1. Voyager can now build the Delta Flyer as a strike craft. Also, don't put more than 2 points into Ablative Armor. Level 2 is more than enough. Put 4 points each into Holographic Fleet an Sensor Probes. The holoships gain health as you do the requisite research, so they can take more fire before disappearing as you tech up, and you get 10 ships at Level 4. Also, both the holoships and probes are Priority Targets, so enemies will focus on them first, drawing fire away from all other ships. Bring Voyager Home NOW!. 2. Fed Capital Ships can have onboard research labs. 4 Jupiter Stations will get civilian labs, and 5 Jupiters will get military labs (labs on ships count, so keep your Capital Ships alive). 3. Starfleet Headquarters has 2 fleet summons abilities. First is 3rd Fleet Reserves, which has a bunch of kitbash ships. You should only keep Challenger (anti-fighter ship), Niagara and Melbourne, the latter two being Capital Ships which don't need officer points, but can't level up, but they each get two abilities to compensate. Weaker, but a MAJOR boost to a Fed player's fleet. Second ability is Venerable Fleet, which will bring in Miranda, Centaur (anti-fighter), Excelsior, Brel, Ktinga, and Kvort classes. Yes, a Fed player can SUMMON KLINGON SHIPS! Requires a full alliance with another player to unlock the research trees, but that plus other research options is SO worth it! 4. Forget the name, but Spacedocks have an option to build fallout shelters which prevent you from losing a planet to orbital bombardment. Basic outposts used to have it, but the devs removed it for balance reasons. So be sure to put a Spacedock on EVERY planet, as you can afford it. But you'll need 6 military research facilities to unlock the constructor ship. 5. Curry-class, your strike carrier, now has a Capture Ability, which used to be limited to Janisarry-class (your ship, remember?), which, in addition to being necessary to capture neutral mining stations, can now capture most other frigates/cruisers, but not capital ships. Use it to bolster your fleet numbers. Currys can also carry two squadrons of strike craft. Be advised, you can keep capturing ships forever, meaning that, even if you hit your Fleet Capacity, you can still add ships with the Capture Ability, but you won't be able to replace your losses of buildable ships if you do this. 6. Explore your planets! Ancient Artifacts are a great boon. There's one, Menthar Logistics Cache, that will boost your fleet cap be 50 points, and give you a free officer point, meaning you can build an extra Capital Ship for your fleet. 7. Ambassador-class has Long Range Scan, which you can use to take a peek at other planets/gravity wells (but not Stars), letting you know what's there before warping into a trap. FYI, I'd set you fleet to warp in all at once, so that you don't accidentally have a weak ship taking the brunt of the fire. For other abilities, only put one point each into Colonize and Long Range Scan, as the rest are better spent on the other two abilities. 8. Build Typhon-class ships, your full sized fleet carrier. It not only unlocks advanced Valkyrie strike craft, which you can then deploy on all ships/stations, but, if you level it up to 10 and distribute the ability points right, can give you 20 Squadrons PER SHIP! (Note: I think they might have reduced that a bit, as I'm still relearning things since the last release) You can also briefly reduce incoming damage by 75% if you put four points into Point Defense System (Nebula gets that ability too), giving you a Very Tough Capital Ship that can do a lot of damage at range. Having lots of Strike Craft in your fleet can let you ABSOLUTELY DECIMATE the enemy, as 100+ squadrons, all going after the same target, can Completely Wreck a Capital Ship in less than two passes. Defense Stations can't,and Starbases can barely, target Strike Craft, so they're utterly helpless to these things. 9. Picard's Summon ability can give you two Unique Ships. At Level 1, you'll get Oberth-class Scouts, basically reskinned Nova Scouts, but they're Cool, and only cost 1 Fleet Cap. You only get them at Level 1, though. At Level 2, you'll get Nova-Class, which are Combat Capable versions of the Nova Scout. At some point, too, the Nova model will change to that of the U.S.S. Rhode Island, from the Voyager Series Finale. I think it looks cooler, although I wish the devs had made it so that only the Summonable version looked like that, as even the Scouts will get the remodel eventually. NOTE: Don't put more than 2 points into this ability, as the rest are better spent on the other two, since you don't get anything special with the summons at Level 3 or 4. 10. Phonix-class, put 4 points into Engineering Teams ASAP. A single Phoenix with Maxed Repair ability is FAR Superior to the Constellation-class, as it can repair up to 10 friendly ships or installations SIMULTANEOUSLY, and can do so Continuosly, as the cooldown is actually shorter than the duration, which is improved further with a couple of points put into Type-X Warp Core, which speeds up ability recharge rates. Obviously, I've spent A LOT of time with this mod. I can't wait to see how this game turns out. A few final things, this map is a linear representation of the Solar System, with moons branching off at right angles. Try to lock down the planets, and you should do OK. Also, that Wormhole next to the Asteroid Belt? It leads to a second branch of gravity wells on the other side of the Sun, which has the fictitious 10th planet. Lock down the Asteroid Belt, or better yet Jupiter, to keep your enemies from getting over there. Also, notice how you can't get to the Sun from Mercury? You can only get there from this separate branch, which means that Random Events that spawn at the Sun can't reach you. That's good, as I means you can focus elsewhere without worrying about a marauding Whale Probe or Borg Invasion (Yes, that's now a random event) from bothering you. But, FYI, when I played this map, I wound up having some RIDICULOUS number of Random Events all getting stuck at the wormhole, because they could come through, which was like a dozen Whale Probes, 10 Borg Cubes, and dozens of smaller ships. Be careful when you venture over there. Feel free to message me, as there are more things I could tell you. Just beware, if you see the warning "Something from a Galaxy Far, Far Away" pop up, it means a Star Destroyer is at the star. Get some Screen Shots! P.S., there's a VERY RARE chance you'll stumble across an abandoned Constitution-Refit out there. Keep your eyes open, and don't let the AI steal it!
i really want to get back into Star Trek Armada 1. i miss the final stage where i fill that lane the borg come through with torpedo stations literally anywhere i can. they never fired at them and it was awesome just seeing a huge cube get shredded by 27 torpedos hitting it every half a second. that and the gameplay and music. the music i loved. best borg themes.
This game was the reason I subscribed to this channel - Nice to see it return - more often I hope!!!!! Loved those fights against hte Borg... Maybe a joined taskforce with the Gul again.... would love to see that...
Got to hand it to the modders. Ships look awesome. I used to play the original ST mod years ago. It looked just as great then. But it's nice to hear they added the captain's voices now. Nice
I remember during one of my playthrough i disscovere ancient tech of starbase building, it gives crazy starbase buff. Later i build spacedock starbase around an nearby wormhole, through which enemy forces go through to raid my systems. I build all the starbase systems and fill the area with mines.Later gigantic space battle with enemy main invasion force, it was slaughter,my fleet stationed here was eventualy destroyed but starbase managed to repel the atack until reinforcments arrived. After defeating this army,i went through and eventualy wiped floor with them, since the havent only few remaining ship for defense. When i comenced orbital bombardment i felt more like a Terran Empire than Federation.
Shack! You most likely wont see this. But I found your channel and started watching it because of STA3 in 2016. Been around ever since amd love your content with your own unique touch. You can only imagine the feeling of seeing you returning to this game again. All the best for you! Keep up the amazing work!
I've been playing so much sins lately, I played a ton when it first came out back in 2008, I picked up the "remake" like a month ago, just recently started playing Armada 3 and it's pretty great!
There's a separate download that you can put in to make the Borg OP again, I highly suggest. (Assuming it hasn't changed since I last looked at it) Also, YESSSSSS!!!!!! I've waited so long for the return of this game to the channel!!!
Federation Starbases are almost OP. I held off a borg onslaught with a fully upgraded starbase at a wormhole well while my fleet took on the Klingons trying to sneak in my back door. Once I setup several systems with starbases and as many sol stations all maxed out with bombers the amount of ships needed to take that down is just hardly possible.
Sweet some more Star Trek Armada Lol honestly I just recently played the original game and I'm still getting used the to original units. I always played the mod till now.
A little late but in the map editor if you want every empire to have its own system you have to set the player limit o the system to 1. Just to let you know it starts as 2 by default and even if you make other systems available it will always spawn an AI in your starting system.
I don't know if you'll respond to such an old video but when i watched this a couple of years back I remember you having AI federation "raiders" that would attack enemy systems that were still yellow (your color). I was wondering how you did that or how you got those raiders on your side? thank you!
The original Enterprise was an NX Class Enterprise A was a Constitution Class Enterprise B was an Excelsior Class Enterprise C was an Ambassador Class Enterprise D was a Galaxy Class Enterprise E was a Sovereign Class
Enterprise 1701 and 1791-A were both Constitution class. The first one (1701) self destructed over the Genesis planet at Kirk's command after they stole it from the spacedock where it had been decomissioned.
Additionally, NX wasn't Federation starfleet, it was an earth ship, By that measure there have been a lot of ships names Enterprise in history; the "original" AFAICT was the 1705 24-gun sixth-rate HMS Enterprise, tho I wouldn't be surprised if there were earlier ships by that name.
WulfgarOpenthroat i was trying to keep it to the ships in the startrek shows, though I did forget the Enterprise J, which was a universe class ship captain by Data
@@WulfgarOpenthroat - *HMS Enterprize. There were also two U.S. aircraft carriers named Enterprise: CV-6 a Yorktown class aircraft carrier and CVN-65 the single ship Enterprise class which also holds the distinction of being the worlds first nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
Woo! I even had to go see if they got any progress updates since IronClad released another patch that added another bit to Sins, sub factions I think it was? Borg can still be tough if you don't keep at it >.>
Starfleet: "We want to name this new Ambassador-class starship after a 2600 year old major city on earth." Shack: "No. Just No. We're naming it after a doggo." :p
I love this game and will do this AMAZING mod. But a note on fighting: You should always send your capital ships first and then the smaller craft. The capital ships, unless this mod has made them weaker, always can handle the brunts of the early blows of the smaller craft and keep them occupied. Your smaller craft then come in and work on the enemy as they focus your capital. Even when I get a titan going, its the first thing in. Even at lvl 1, those things can take an absolutely massive beating while dishing out enormous amounts of damage. I like the defensive ones though just cause I like their tankiness. Still, the AI will send some craft to target your other ships. Have to watch out for those. I still love this game so much. The BIG maps can take weeks to play if you are willing to invest in planet development and multiple fleets to do different things. You have to log off and then come back and resume the map later. Even mid size maps can take a full day all by themselves. Never played multiplayer though. I was going to try, and then just saw how they path around any defenses you set up outside the planetary reach lol.
Hey Capt'n, I've watch alot of your videos and you got some sweet material, keep it up! Can you drop the link to that youtube video on how to use this mod? I just downloaded the mod but cant figure out to use it for sins of the solar empire.
I am already going to love this Also also for your Star Wars empire at war would it be easier to just sweep the outer rim from left to right Also I love what you do keep it up
BTW in the next version on the Stellaris mod Star Trek New Horizons they added the CREW as a resource. And the Klingons now have families as faction with their own power level and fleets. Would love to see you play that mod in the next version
I normally play either the Cardassain loyalists or the Borg with a sprinkling of Federation. If you want a game with the community, have you posted your timezone XP?
OMG! I loved the original Armada game. I have Sins Rebellion, but when I go to the site with the mod it says it is obserlete. Is this the right mod? Any help would be great
Yeeesssssss!!!!!!! IT HAS RETURNED! Now only to get another massive 5v1 borg fight on hard, with Shack as the klingons!
Only if
Oh Man wouldn't that be sweet
God Id love to be in a lobby with Shack fighting the borg as a Romulan
I suggested that during one of shacks streams

I like it when Shack plays Sins. He's the only one who really zooms in on the ships when he plays.
Please make the second episode PLEASEEEE. I could Watch for HOURS. Mostly because it is my favorite youtuber and favorite mod!!!
Good gooly god, he’s actually playing sins..... it’s been so long, hope he plays with the community ^_^
That thumbnail, makes me fall in love with the galaxy class all over again. Without a doubt best view of all the Federation ships is from that angle.
Holy#### its been a while. Since I've seen this on ur channel shack oh wait the Borg oh god I Remmber the 5 player v Borg
wish i could pull off the that stunt because i did 6 players v 1 Borg and got crushed.

I am sooooo HAPPY that you are doing this series. I have been waiting for a long time. You are AMAZING SHACK.
We need more Miniseries of this! Get the Band Back together Shack! Stand against the borg once more!

very happy to see sins back, the old videos are what brought me to your channel originally years ago
Yeeesss

And to see some Trek on the channel again.
Ah star trek armada 3, the mod that brought me to this channel in the first place!

I remember this was the first game I ever watched you play. Now we need Valfor and GUl plus 2 other for a five vs 1 Borg on hard.. Hint Hint
My ship's are ready for your command
Pls make this a series, also, three new beginnings since you last played, it would be nice seeing you play star trek online. Keep up the great work

I love the use of the Starfleet Command soundtrack in this mod

There's a separate download that you can put in to make the Borg OP again, I highly suggest.

Love these mods for SINS.. Great vids, although you ought flip some of the metal for cash and crystal. Would love to see more.

Starfleet: "We want to name this new Ambassador-class starship after a 2600 year old major city on earth."
Shack: "No. Just No. We're naming it after a doggo."
:p
I love the Star trek shattered universe music at the 21:00 minute mark
Star trek online is amazing. Love to see you play it.
OMG Whoever owns the Startrek IP GIVE THESE GUYS A BLOODY JOB AND AN ENGINE TO BUILD A GAME........
But still happy to see Star Trek back
ARMADA III?!?!?!
YAAAASSSSS
Can't let the cardies get the wormhole - chief o'Brien
Love this game glad it's back. Bring honour to your house!
Yeeeesssssss!!!!!!!!
Its back!
Yep as a note: Cap ships cost 50 regular supply & at least 1 officer supply.
I am already going to love this Also also for your Star Wars empire at war would it be easier to just sweep the outer rim from left to right
Also I love what you do keep it up
BTW in the next version on the Stellaris mod Star Trek New Horizons they added the CREW as a resource. And the Klingons now have families as faction with their own power level and fleets. Would love to see you play that mod in the next version

Wow! I had no idea about this mod. Thanks for posting! Downloading now...….
You can order your fleet to jump together I think. Yah may have to select all to get the option. Been a while.
OMG YESS FINAALLY MORE CONTENT OF STA3!!
the chance to kill bayorans just sold this mod to me.
ps. Enterprise B was an excelsior class. Enterprise C was the first Ambassador.
I normally play either the Cardassain loyalists or the Borg with a sprinkling of Federation.
