CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dre (Jaden Smith) thinks kung fu training will be a breeze, but learns quickly that Mr. Han's (Jackie Chan) methods are not what he expected.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a 12-year-old from Detroit moves to China with his mother and incurs the wrath of the class bully at his new school, he makes an unlikely ally in the form of his aging maintenance man, a kung fu master who teaches him the secrets to self-defense. Upon arriving at his new school, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) develops a powerful crush on pretty classmate Mei Ying. The feeling is mutual, although the cultural divide between Dre and Mei Ying makes a friendship unlikely, and romance impossible. When cruel classmate and kung fu prodigy Cheng learns of Dre's feelings for Mei Ying, he harasses and humiliates the young outsider in front of the entire school. With no one to turn to for help, Dre confides his fears in kindly maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a kung fu master who knows that serenity and maturity -- not punches and power -- are the true keys to mastering the martial arts. As Dre prepares to face down his intimidating tormentor, he begins to realize that the real fight is just beginning.

As a piano instructor I use this video to show students especially new ones that you have to do something over and over and over so the brain can go on cruise control mode and do it automatically. I have to be patient like Mr Han

So, I finally got around to seeing the new Karate Kid, and was really pleased to find out that it was the story all about how Jaden Smiths life got flipped turned upside down You see, he was chilling out. maxing. relaxing all cool. shooting some b-ball outside of his school, when a couple of guys (who were up to no good) started making trouble In his neighborhood He got in one little fight and his mom got scared! And said ‘You’re going to learn kung-fu from the maintenance man downstairs.

This is similar to The Karate Kid from the '80s. As it turns out, putting on and taking off the jacket is actually a kung fu move, similar to how Daniel Larusso in the original Karate Kid got upset about having to wax the car, paint the fence, etc when he was actually learning moves while doing all of those things. He just didn't know at the time that Mr. Miyagi was teaching him karate, he just thought that he was being taken advantage of by having to do all of those chores. Dre was learning technique by doing the jacket thing over and over.

All of these replies miss the point earlier in the movie where Jackie is fixing something in the apartment when the mom comes home and yells at the son to pick up his jacket.
Muscle memory here it is.
Showing him discipline, you can never learn how to use kung fu, or karate without discipline. You know you have the ability to kill someone easily, but you have to control your emotions.

What this movie tells you is actually how my life in china in school is, literally every single kid who learns a bit of karate or wushu they just start to bully others who aren’t experienced at all except I beaten them up once sense i was quite tall and large when i was in school lol
