  • There were quite a few class 37's on various workings during this video. An appearance of Colas 43's on a test train and a bi-modal LNER Azuma for some reason running on diesel power under the wires. The highlight was 46100 Royal Scot putting on an impressive display on the outward leg of Steam Dreams trip from Shoeburyness to York. Royal Scot was working the Peterborough to York to Peterborough part of the journey. Then we end with a ex-GWR HST Castle set being taken to Ely for storage.

I assumed you’d have been out during the week, I was on 4L08 all week so you got me on Monday.

Damn! no, I have only been out once this week around the railway and that was to get the HST's at the end of this video on Tuesday. Even they interupted my tea having to leave my apple pie and custard until I got home again.🤣 4L08 is getting a bit late in the day now the daylight is rapidly decreasing each day. Good to hear from you again and know you are still driving around this area and thank you for watching.

@@werringtonjunction I think you did some filming a couple of weeks ago too, but I don’t think you got me at all, I had a week of doing 4L45/4E25, although I think the weather was miserable on a few days, the small lake I had forming in the cab reminded me of that.

@@S2RUF 🤣🤣 I will see if I can get out tonight, it may be the last chance before it gets too dark.

@@werringtonjunction It’ll be too dark when I start back, currently on a couple of weeks leave then straight back into water jetting season.

Nice video and a great location for quite a wide variety of trains. What I found interesting was despite the line having overhead power, the amount of trains that are still running on diesel is quite numerous. And yes I counted lol. I got 15 clips of trains running on Electric, 4 running on Steam, and 29 running on Diesel!
Does make you think, its kinda pointless having overhead lines unless the ENTIRE network is electrified.
Until that happens, Diesel power will still be the primary form of traction on our metals.

Thank you for watching and commenting Andy. That was quite an observation that I had never thought about before. The only electrics north of Peterborough are the LNER Azuma's, Hull Trains and Lumo's, south of Peterborough there are the extra Northern and Thames link suburban services as well. It remains to be seen if we start to see the new bi-mode class 93's on the occasional freight. Some freight does use the ECML to Doncaster during the early hours rather than the Joint Line via Spalding so it is feasible the 93's could run from Felixstowe then use the OHE from Peterborough.

The railway press reported recently that D B cargo had withdrawn their electric locos (90s)as it was cheaper to use diesel.(66s). The "continuing high cost of energy" was cited.

With the rise in the cost of oil lately it probably won't be long before the electrics are back in service. Perhaps fitting solar panels to the tops of all those containers and linking them to the electric loco might help.🤔🤣🤣🤣

My guess is that diesel can be bought 'forward' and electricity is only available from the spot market. Putin has banned the export of diesel from Russia pro tem.@@werringtonjunction
