$1,399 is almost cheap for a US made carbon fiber bass with American electronics. I hope this is a hit on the market.
Thank you! I agree. They are off on the right foot, and I hope they continue improving their business model as the offering (and turnaround time) is very unique! Lots of opportunity with this
You can usually negotiate a lower price with your reseller. I'd bet a few hundred off. Which is a great deal. This bass sounds fantastic!
I was looking at these but was gun shy without a good listen. Discovered your site here and am thrilled I did. Thank you for doing what you do, I just ordered this bass. You do nice in depth reviews without the typical BS or cork sniffery. No script you say…..well good on you Sir for relay your gut reactions. I told the seller it was your review that sold me. Thanks again and I will be tuning in regularly now!!
As a V1 instrument from such a new company doing something so radically different, this is such an impressive bass. I already miss the blue one that I had on loan. Can't wait for the 5er!
It really is. I am stoked for their 5'er as well. I hope they continue the same approach for the 5 as that could be a true bass of the people.
Soon...
Here's a new task, which suits you Lobster! They also do replacement necks, so if you get Jazz body and put an adjustable Schaller bridge on it, load it with Aguilar pups and OBP, and use their jazz-type graphite neck. I'd like to hear that monster!:D
Killer sounding bass; I love the attack of a graphite neck
Lobster... thanks for your review on the Apollo Std Bass. After watching your reviews, along with AMP and Bully, I ordered my Black Std Apollo this evening. I did not do any upgrades, just stock. Thanks for all of your reviews.
Got mine yesterday. Plays great. I like the look. The other comments about a bit of metallic or clanky tone are somewhat well founded, but just lowered the pickups to 7/64 and 5/64, and rolled the tone off a bit, and it sounds great.
This instrument line seems promising, there are relatively few affordable options available if you have a hankering for a graphite neck, since the manufacturers working with graphite tend to be very expensive.
I agree. With Status closing their doors and Modulus and G. Gould costing 3-4k to start, KLOS has come along at the perfect time and made something at the right price point.
@@LowEndLobster What sucks is I was just about to order a neck from Status for my Stingray. This bass does look and sound very cool but I think I'm holding out for a 5 string. BTW, glad to see you back in action.
Thanks man!
@@LowEndLobster Don't forget about Zon! I've had two Zon Sonus's (4 & 5 string) which were outstanding (I only sold them because I was in my 20's and had some medical costs I needed to pay but I wish I still had them). I would really love to buy the Zon Sonus BG4 - Billy Gould signature model. Plus Joe Zon is probably one of the nicest guys I've ever spoken to in any industry :)
Love the warm sounds out of this - especially with the tone control rolled off! The main thing that's turned me off about graphite/composite neck instruments in the past is that they are just too clanky and bright sounding. This one sounds amazing though, and got me tempted.
All the innovations and features of this bass are really cool, and I love that about it. But the best thing is that the bass just SOUNDS good on top of all that.
You played VERY differently on this Bass. You went into some really melodic runs when everything was all the way up. That's a good Bass to make you change stuff up!
I'm going to have a look at one of these tomorrow. Can't wait!
Very good review Lobb! Of all the reviews so far of this bass I don’t think I knew about the pup cavity that’s very cool! I think they got a cool thing going on and they are smart for letting you showcase their product I can see them getting a ton of business because of you happy Sunday homie!! Always makes me happy when I wake up to a new LEL video!!
I really like that bass, keep up the good work LowEndLobster!!!
Awesome review Lobster! I’m afraid I’m gonna have to get one!
Thanks to the graphite neck and fingreboard, it is a very clear and bright sounding bass. Impressive.
Excellent review, Lobster, and really impressed with the sounds of this instrument. I was afraid it would sound too sterile and cold (i.e. like a Modulus Graphite, IMO), but it's got some nice warmth, clarity, and detail. One worth mentioning for us lefties (and maybe you should offer this kind of info in all your future reviews) is that Klos DOES offer left handed options too!
Thank you PJ! I will do my best to remember the lefty thing but please understand that my videos are unscripted and it sometimes takes a little while for me to 'get with it' when I add something.
AWESOME!!!! Review Lobster THANK YOU!!!!
I can't say I like its looks, but I love everything else about this bass. Kudos to Klos, and thank you LBL for reviewing such an interesting instrument so nicely.
After watching both this and your video on the Pro version, I am really amazed by this Standard model! This is a tone machine that's reduced to the max! Love its clarity and versatility, and its no-nonsense approach with great innovations in just the right places while keeping it simple stupid for everything that has proven to work perfectly for decades! That standard white color fits that bill as well and it looks great on this instrument. This is the one I'd get. No, wait, the upcoming 5-string version - if it also comes as an affordable Standard model!
That is a nice bass. I Really like the builders approach.
That's a cool bass Lobster. What a range of toAnz 😉. It's kind of a jazz-esque with some clank. Like a modern jazz without a 9v battery. Good review and choice of bass. Until you groove again. 🦞🎸✌️😎👍🎸🦞
Love the white black combo and the sound is very good.
That's a very nice sound, especially with the bridge pickup and tone all the way down.
Hi 🦞. Awesome bass. Love the look and sound. A definite bucket list bass for me.
Would be great with dual tone controls. Low on the bridge and up on the neck would sound amazing IMO
Looks great too. The monochromatic scheme.
So many basses I want now. Win the lottery and maybe .ATB Stu 👍👍👍
Sounds amazing
I've been enjoying your review videos for a while now, but I've just been "window shopping" as far as the basses are concerned… I already have more basses than I know what to do with (4… 5, if you count my fretless Kala U-Bass, which I don't). But this is the first one I've seen that I have actually been tempted by! Thanks for another great review video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video
What can I say, sounds great. Nice bass.
I am with you, they need to do something with that overhang on the fretboard. The bass almost looks like a short scale but it could be a combination of the overhang and the stubby headstock.
As for their guitar line, Klos came up with a very nice price/quality ratio.
I just feel like the body is a tad wide, no ? No problem when it’s sitting on your knee ?
Btw, glad to see you back online :-)
Great bass. I love carbon fiber necks. Nice Even sounding bass.
Best bass I've heard in awhile. I'm still a Sterling player because this one is out of my price range. However, impressive bass, especially with drums behind it. I'd love to hear this preamp and pickup in a SUB bass...lol.
I like LEL's assement of this bass. It sounds nice.
Bass sounds great, it reminded me the defunct Modulus Quantum but with the chopped headstock.
If they allow for specific customization for custom ones like paying extra to shave down the extra fretboard (kind of like how Spectors curve down) and pickups and placement I would easily spend double the starting price if I can have my pickups with the spacing I want. I love carbon necks for gigging, but Modulus is so expensive to get customs from now because they make soooo few at a time since being acquired by PlanetBass and this seems like one of the few options that isn't thousands and thousands of dollars
I think the headstock is kinda cool. But I own and play old Hamer guitars which had a similar (snake head/viper) shaped headstock so the look is cool for my taste!!
That is a very nice bass!!!
They got to do something with this headstock
Lobster Nice review as usual, bass has a Stingray tone don't to agree, not a bad tone , really need more space by front pickup and end of fretboard
Hey Stephen! Like Lobster said, we are able to move the pickup back a bit and make the configuration a little more slap-friendly. You just have to ask for it in the order notes on our online store. One of those Starbucks hidden menu items.
i want it as headless, i dont like that akward mini headstock, but overall killer bass!
Very nice! I would love a bass with a solid neck that I don't have to... fret over?! LOL!
Eyoooo! XD
Great review as always! How would you compare the sound, fit and finish, and feel to a Modulus or G. Gould?
Cool, great sounding little bass! I couldn't live with that headstock though. It's HIDEOUS. I mean, I love symmetrical 2+2 headstocks (the one on the Ibanez Musician was the most beautiful ever, imho) but this... just WHAT. Since they designed it as a travel bass anyway, it would be much better as a headless.
I would love to see this in a Medium and/or short scale with flats on it.
That’s so cool.
Hey Lobster, i think you've never reviewed a Fender Jaguar MIJ (the ones with long scale and active/passive switch). This would be great to see! Cheers!
Great review and very interesting...the resonance of de neck isn't the sound I like... Thank for this great VID LoB
Great review. For a composite neck that's a nice deal. Looks and sounds are great from your review. Does Klos make their own necks? Their site mentions "Each bass is precisely assembled, wired, and tuned in our factory in Utah, the heart of the Rocky Mountains." I'd be impressed if they actually make their necks inhouse.
I do believe they make the necks, but don't manufacture the carbon fiber (which I also believe is imported). They had a dissected one at namm so you could see the inside and explained the process, it was super interesting.
@@LowEndLobster Thanks. Manufacturing with resins and fiber is a royal pain and very messy. But the results are worth it. I still have a Steinberger I bought in high school way back in 1984 or 85. The only bass I'll never sell. The neck has never moved in all those years.
As for graphite necks, this bass seems to be a great option. Moses stopped making necks years ago, I don't think Modulus Graphite makes aftermarket necks anymore and Status stopped taking orders a few years ago for replacement type necks. So no options for DYI'ers and mod-folks out there wanting to do a parts bass with a graphite neck, and most available graphite neck basses are above this price point (Zon and Status for instance).
Good looking good sounding dude i am in love bravo claw master teach your cat some vocals mood he has the groovevi knew it !
Great review as always! I have a nitpick: I'm almost certain it's "SUNG-IL" prounced "ill" rather than "SUNG-II" pronounced "two" ;). And those bridges really are great for the money...
Thank you! I was always unsure because like 99% of the listings for the bridge are all in caps lol
@@LowEndLobster IlllIlIIlIIllll, ya know what I mean? ;)
It does sound good. It's no EB-0 but very cool!!
That is definitely a four claw bass. I like the options and travel features and workmanship. I had a Zon Sonus the problem with carbon fiber is you can't adjust the relief, there is no truss rod, this my not be an issue for most. Also, my Ray 5 does not have the G string problem my two USA stingray 5's had. Thanks , good review.
Zon is one of my favorite basses of all time and they now do have truss rods. I had the Sonus V and the Sonus Special IV. I wish I now had the Sonus BG4 - the Billy Gould signature model.
@@jackshittle I do regret selling the Zon. It was one of the first Sonus and had a great preamp.
@@pine3737 I concur. I bought my first one via mail order in April of 1995 & the next one in 1997 at Bass Northwest in Seattle. If only I kept them :/
Great bass! Are there any basses that get 5 out of 5 on your channel?
We need to talk about Lobster's t-shirt.
I want a full carbon fiber bass
So do you think one of the custom features could be “I don’t want my bass’s neck to talk to me” that sounds fecking SCARY!!!
I have enough things talking to me…now the bass?!?
…also
What was it saying?
Thank you for sharing, you are a superstar.
Also, maybe that’s why the pickups are so quiet…they’re scared of the neck!!!
I'm waiting for a Jazz replacement neck from this company.
Guitarist looking to buy his first bass. What is your opinion on the SIRE Marcus Miller short scale fretless bass? Also, would you recommend flat or round wound strings if I'd be playing with both heavy rock AND traditional/mainstream jazz musicians?
Nice
I was really interested , but the price becomes quite high as I live in Australia ( shipping , duties and the exchange rate $)
Damn, that's pretty!
If they come out with a 6 string, I'm hopping on that so fast.
they are in around 3 months, but I cant wait that long
Does the travel ability have any negative effects on the Kloss?
I'm curious how long the neck is when it's separate from the bass? Thinking about how it could travel in a suitcase vs. the backpack.
I'd say it's about the length of a fender neck. It's longer in the heel but has the stubby headstock. Check out my unboxing vid that shows the bag and assembly process if you haven't already.
I'm not sure any bass would aspire to have the Stingray5 Pickguard.
Looks like a cross between a dingwall ng2 and musicman stingray
With that tiny headstock they may as well made it headless.
Though that is a good thought, I've found the more 'budget' headless hardware to be lacking whereas one can get a solid bridge and regular tuners for less. I think the tiny headstock is a nice compromise though not everyone digs the shape/design
Dang it, now I want something else lol
Very cool bass, sounds great but the looks are an acquired taste, to me anyway. Thanks Lobster!
ya like jazz?
Headstock looks strange. Otherwise, looks and sounds great.
Is that shirt a Mandela effect reference? 😂
YES! ahaha it is!
@@LowEndLobster love it!!
Secound !!! Hahahhaha great tone .
Good review 👍 but that headstock is so ugly
That headstock 😐
First!
I saw Jane KLOSLESS!!! Nice touch with George Costanza MAESTRO lobster 🦞
Hey Lobster, I’m curious - did you ever purchase one of these? I’m thinking of getting one. In your last video where you went through your full collection, I don’t think you had one.
I still have the same ones from the videos. Been trying to send them back for a year hahaha (I don't own them). I guess I'll do a revisit LOL
