- We’re picking up a few of the jobs needed for the engine ancillary parts, starting with the Generator/Dynamo. In this video we first perform some basic tests and then we dismantle the Generator. We hope you find this interesting, please leave a comment with any additional information you have about this generator.

I've watched a lot of videos trying to explain how to make repairs. none of them have been better than this one. It is carefully explained with confidence without condescending to the viewer. Thank you for taking the time to present it.
Thank you for your very kind comment! Good to hear from a local viewer! 😉👍
Nice run through Gordon.
Thanks for taking the time.
Cheers,
Paul.
Thanks Paul! 👍😉
Perfect timing! That's this weekend's job. I did the starter last week but stopped short of taking the coils out as the screws seemed solid. Might come back to that and have a go another time.
Hi Ewan, thank you for commenting. If the coils aren’t bad I would generally leave them too. For the purpose of the video I did want to get them out tho’ and I’m glad I did because the wrapping is actually quite bad. 😉👍
Excellent demonstration and explanation. Thank you, its been most helpful and enlightening.
Glad it was helpful! 😉👍
Excellent, instructive videos. Thank you.
You are welcome! 👍😉
what a lucky find. thanks a lot for posting this
Thank you 😉👍
Another good video ,very informative, thank you(.John North Wales)
Hi John, thanks for your support 👍😉
Always polarise generator before doing ANY tests. Also instead of a piece of wire between D and F. I always use an AMMETER. You should be seeing 2 AMPS as your field resistance is 6.1-6.4 ohms. Also a lucas generator will take a maximum of 8500 revs, but 1500-2000 is adequate. 😊
Hi Ian, very useful information! Thanks for sharing 👍😉
I have this job to do and not really fair to to comment without actually watching this video yet but nearly an hour video on this is a bit much for me, have found it a bit daunting! No doubt about your skills and knowledge from previous videos but could I please lodge an appeal to cater for my limited attention span in future ones? Either way great job and I'm sure I will use it when I get going so thanks very much.
Hi Steve, thank you for your comments. I was surprised at how long this video turned out. During editing a lot of content was cut out and I didn’t want to cut any more, which would have made it a bit disjointed. I hope you can suffer through it at some point, I think it’s an interesting topic, but I have been accused of being ‘strange’ before now! 😂
great stuff
Glad you’re enjoying the videos Geoff. 😉👍
You should watch a video on using an impact screwdriver.
Ye you’re probably right 🤣
you have to bridge the F and D to get it to charge and flash it through the D
Thanks Bill. 👍😉
Excellent for me too. Just startet the video…
Hi UJ T, thanks for your comment. Hope you enjoy the video.
You really need a lathe and growler to do it right
Hi Phillip ye that would be great if I was doing lots of these. 😉👍
Thought the generator puts out ac power which has to go to a voltage rectifier?
Didn’t see any diodes in there, don’t you need them to make dc power?
Hmm maybe, that would make sense. 😉👍
No
It's an Alternator that needs rectification. this video is about a Dynamo
help ih 276 does not glow in glow plugs but glows in glow resistance it with spiral what can be wrong mvh Karsten Bang
Hi Karsten, thanks for your comment. The resistor and the glow plugs should be wired in series. So it is not possible for one item to work and the others not. So I can think of two reasons why you’re seeing this: 1. They have been wired incorrectly and they are in fact in parallel, which is wrong, unless they are not the originals. So you will need to make sure first. 2. It think it is possible that the glow plugs resistance may be too low due to age. I’m not certain what their resistance should be but it may be worth measuring each one and also the coil resistor. The glow plugs should all be very close to being the same as each other. But I seem to recall that the resistor has a higher resistance than each individual glow plug, but I’m not certain about this. I hope this helps sorry I can’t be more specific. ☹️👍
@@WaterhouseForde can it fit there is a fuse in between incandescent relay with spiral and glow tube
@@WaterhouseForde do you have a wiring diagram for ih b276 because can not be found in denmark where I live and the network I can not find anything
Hi Karsten no there should not be any fuse in this circuit. In fact the coil resistor is designed as a form of fuse in that it is designed to fail before the glow plugs if there is a problem.
Hi, I will need to take a look myself. I have a few things tucked away, which may include a wiring diagram. Send me an email: waterhouseforde at gmail dot com.
Excellent video & very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you! 👍😉
