This video demonstrates big picture of Cisco's SD-Access solution. It explains challenges in current enterprise networks and how SD-Access resolves them through a single pane of glass.
I have briefly discussed the challenges in current enterprise networks and how SD-Access various components resolved them, as a result the duration of this video reaches to 28 minutes. Remaining videos of this series will be short and have duration between 10 to 15 minutes.
This video is the first video of SD-Access series. I will be uploading remaining videos as soon as possible.

Your way of explanation is really good.
I have a question.
suppose in a companies head office they dont have any cloud based application.
and branch offices are not connected via MPLS but they are connected via IPSEC VPN Tunnels
Also routing is handled via firewall example fortigate or Palo alto. and all firewalls are managed via panaroma or fortimanager.
In this case how you would u say SD WAN Still have advantages ?
If you say that load balancing. then we have load balancing already like ECMP. and techniques are like spill over
.
which sees if one link is highly utilized then send packets to another. we can also do this application based. with help of
PBF like if you want some traffic to go via dedicatedly via one link.
So what feature is which you would say for SD WAN.

Great job Vishnu. I really learnt a lot about software defined networking through this video. Please keep making more of these. The pace of discussion was good. Graphics were fine too but the handwriting can be improved I believe. Also maybe you can put a slide with few bullet points in the beginning as to who is your target audience and what should he already know so that he can decide to continue or skip the video. Also you can mention another slide in bullet points as to what the viewer will learn when he finishes watching the video.

Just one thing I need to clarify, at time 26:00, when host A wants to communicate with host B, I think at the edge node E1 this packet will get rejected, without sending to E2. Because the policy is pushed out to all the edge nodes and got applied to data level.
Hey Eric, in SDA, packet classification happens at ingress and policy implementation happens at egress. This is because there is no way an edge device knows tagging information of the destination host in advance. This tagging information about the destination host is present at the egress edge. Hence, packet will traverse all the way to egress edge i.e E2 in this case where policy will be enforced.

Awesome explanation. Just wanted to clarify that when host A to host B communication happens it uses Overlay tunnel (VxLAN) rather using understand network but you said it is forwarded via underlay network. Please clarify if possible.
Thanks Prashant. Actually, tunneled packets are forwarded over underlay only. If I say a vxlan tunnel is formed, than it means that original packet is encapsulated in vxlan header with new IP header. This new encapsulated packet is forwarded over underlay comprised of L3 links.
So overall , there is nothing called tunnel but a encapsulated packet with vxlan and new IP header. Hope it clarifies your doubt..

One comment, in the starting you mentioned 2 VLANs communication can be stopped by using ACLs and with time ACE increases hence ACL size grows enormously and this is one of the drawbacks. I agree to that however I think if bigger problem would be if I need to restrict traffic with in a VLAN. Do you think same?
Although we have private VLAN's for this purpose but you are correct !!

Good question and you are correct to an extent. SD-Access is an enterprise technology and if an outsider can get in to your enterprise to change the tags, he could do much more than that. Considering, most of the attacks are from inside of an organisation, I do agree with you that we need to have the capability to encrypt the inner vxlan header. Will let you know, about the Cisco's SDA vision on this.

Hi Jonathan, Cisco DNAC is the hardware device from Cisco. If you know Cisco's software defined solution for Datacenter i.e. ACI, we use APIC. DNAC is the same APIC. Having said that, DNAC comes with inbuilt NCP module which is the automation engine for SD-Access solution. Please do not confuse NCP with SD-Access control plane. SD-Access control plane device (shown as C in diagram) can be a router or switch (will send you the supported CP devices) and this device tracks where actually your endpoints are through LISP protocol. If you do not understand, that is perfectly fine as I will be explaining all this things in next videos.. And thanks for liking this video..
