    One more thing about the morrigan before i forget ..which is REALLY cool...douglas hyde as a boy went to visit her cave called the bog of cats ...and wrote his name on the walls its still there ..he went on to become the first president of ireland as it was gaining independance from the british ..also our armed forces still use her symbols a lot and name regiments and equipment after her! cool video

      The US military names their ranks after the Tuatha De Danann, such as Brigade, and Brigadier General after Brigid, the Lieutenant after Lugh, and Colonel after Cu Cullainn Collins Hound, or Collin's Wolf. A symbol of Honor, and Valor is the Acorn Patch, which was used by the Druids for finding the Oak Tree.

    She is an Irish sovereignty goddess in Ireland we had sacred kingship and the concept of the willing king sacrifice. All over bogs in Ireland (and europe) we have found bodies of men of adult age who were ritually sacrificed. We know they were willing because they all ate the same ritual meal before hand and they were kings from their dress and ancient beauty products. In Irish culture the king was a river to his people. And he married the land. The land as an energy was thought of as a woman. Through sacred kingship the people hoped to control this energy. At the time this was done by thinking the marriage of men and women represented this energy and if men in society controlled women in a balanced way that the land could be controlled. Goddesses in particular were thought to be very unstable energy. Thus the father of the morrigan calitin separated her into three to try and control her or stablize the energy she is divided into the Morrigna badb macha and morrigan . She is a sovereignty goddess and a goddess of the land her war aspect is just one part of her. In order to control or stablize her energy during times of crisis people would like her father try to control the energy by separating her into three. So they offered three gifts or sacrifices if this failed they offered the supreme sacrifice of something known throughout europe as the threefold death of a king. If the land was unhappy it meant the goddess was unhappy with her husband (the king) and he was no longer able to be a river to his people. In ireland a sign of submission was to suckle at the kings nipple often literally and metaphorically there are numerous mountains called things like the hag's nipple or the kings nipple near very sacred sights. So the king was dethroned by cutting his nipples off so he could no longer rule in this life nor the afterlife. Then his body would be ritually 'killed' in three different ways to encourage the goddess to separate into three to accept the ultimate sacrifice and lessen the distructive energy. This is why the morrigan is so confusing if you dont know irish history or culture and keep up to date with archealogical finds. In ireland there is a custom of things like refusing generousity unless its asked three times ..like Mrs Doyle repeatedly asking if you want tea in Father Ted .. and the concept of continously refusing generousity the idea is allowing people who have nothing to offer to be generous ...thus the concept of the hag's nipple ... you are showing respect to an elder who has nothing to give. The morrigan is one of our sovereignty goddesses for a similar reason. The hags nipple mountain is very much associated with the morrigan. There is a story in which Cu Chulainn blesses the morrigan by accepting milk from the morrigan's third teat when she is a cow. And she is healed. This story is very much associated with the above concept of keeping the position of a leader safe and healthy by accepting their generousity. Cu Chulainn regrets accepting the milk because the morrigan is his enemy. But accepting it heals her and gives her status back. All ritual king sacrifices found in bogs in ireland (and there have been many) all had their nipples cut off and suffered the threefold death. All had the similar ritual meal contents found in their stomachs too. Cashel man is the oldest yet found from 4000 yrs ago. But the threefold death king sacrifice is found all over europe for example hanging is always a sacrifice to Odin. www.dublincity.ie/library/blog/human-sacrifice-ancient-ireland Also interestingly in Irish society later when sacrifice was rarely preformed the idea of the king being a river to the people was still present in that you could become a regional king simply by giving enough hospitality away and if people liked you as a regional king they would not take advantage so you wouldn't go broke and if they hated you they would bankrupt you and you couldnt offer it anymore and then you lost your status. Old Croghan man Clonycavan and portlaise man are also king sacrifices that were found in Irish bogs that come to mind. All had their nipples cut off and all had the threefold death it is thought that the goddess would separate to accept the three diff sacrifices and whatever crisis was happening would be lessened.

    Thank you so much for this video. Eloquent and beautiful, for a Goddess who is all the more. I am only recently figuring out how to discuss my relationship with this Goddess with other people. She found me, somewhere in the late 1990s. She is my patron, teacher, inspiration, anima, yen goddess, friend. More than anything she is a very good friend. I love her. That doesn't mean I think I can speak with any authority on her behalf or anything like that. Far from it, its kindof hilarious to me to think of speaking for a literal Goddess who is right here. For similar reasons, I have only studied the folklore a little here and there, as she directs. Though I will buy and read your books as soon as possible. I'm convinced that she herself prevented me from becoming a folklorist at one point. What she usually wants is for me to go fight my battles and know that she is there. There were actually a few things in this video that put some life-stuff in perspective for me. Look forward to checking out more of the channel.

    The Morrigan is the Goddess that I talk to during prayer, if I'm not speaking directly to Gaia. As a pagan, I try to learn as a traditional Druid, not the ways of the NeoDruid. My family taught the "Way" passed down from our Irish heritage. I focus much less on names and titles, as those are important only to people, whereas my work is for both our people and our planet.
    Thank you for teaching the modern people about our incredible lore

    britain, ireland, scotland, and wales are all very close to each other. I haven’t done research; I have an idea, since these countries are so close to each other & were once considered great britannia (? i think, fact check me), the gods overlap that area. A goddess called Andraste (goddess of victory) called upon by great resistance leader Boudicca of the Iceni trice from the iron age of Britain during the roman invasion, may be an aspect of the morrigan
    tldr i think ancient goddess andraste/andate (of victory, associated with victoria) may be an aspect of the morrigan in regards to victory

  • @TheRhuen
    @TheRhuen Місяць тому

    The war goddess aspect added in 1870 feels like a poor understanding of her as fierce protector of the people and land she cares about. A forseer of possible outcomes and thus a great strategist. The issue being in modern times its often thought that a god of something is either the source of that something or empowered by it. Which very few "gods of war" ever really seem to be. Rather gaining the title because of a tendency to side with a specific people or as a happenstance that by protecting an individual or family that has a covenant with them that have gone to war they also ended up protecting the people around that person or group in the battles.
    That all said Morrigan is complicated as we don't really have primary sources to go by and the name seems to have been more a title given to multiple goddesses (not unusual, most gods are really titles rather than names and the often contradictory myths the results of synchronization of various gods or changes in the cultural perception of them.)

    One eye is bright ( common of sky God's)
    Her sisters are with her, one looks like a witch, and the other is hidden behind Morgon, so I couldn't see her.
    Just like the angels she had 3 faces. It looks like Horns or locked hair coming down her face and she is definitely on a mission. That look into my camera said a million years' worth of history and vengeance waiting.
