- Apples ominous warning about the Jet Black iPhone 7 needing a case, left me very curious. Its time to test the new iPhone 7 color: Jet Black. What happens when the Super Glossy Jet black iPhone 7 comes up against every day objects like toothpicks, pennies, keys, and ... obviously... razor blades.
Here is the exact warning left by Apple on their website:
"The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone."

it's unfortunate because it is truly amazing to get such a high gloss reflective surface with aluminum. I wanted to buy this one and decided against it because of the scratching. I LOVE the matte black though

They try to make the outside of the phone really cool, so that you won't want to put a case on it. So, you'll drop it and break it, and you will have to buy a new phone, or replace the screen for a lot of money. I know it's ridiculous, but all phone companies try to rip you off in some way. This is Apple's way of doing just that.

The phone ships without a charging brick in the box. And don't even start on the 'environmental help' because the cable is USB-C to lightning, so only 11 line owners can take advantage of that, and Apple makes rubbish easily broken chargers anyways, so they can't use the old cable for the next 5 years ( average time taken to earn enough to buy an overpriced Apple product. )

A penny is around a 3 on the mohs hardness scale, your fingernails are about a 2.5... This phone is somewhere in-between
well to be more spesific, a penny is 97.5% zinc, but it's coated in copper.
according to google, copper is between 2.5 to 3, and zinc is 2.5
so perhaps if you had sharp enough fingernails you could still scratch this phone...... pathetic

What is the points of making phones like that? just to show off at commercials and videos how pretty and "premium" they are, while you MUST cover it with protective case and hide all that, yet again spend even more money for it. Wouldn't be surprised if Apple would present a new spectacular case just for Jet Black for just a few hundred bucks. Apple could just make their phones in various matte or glossy color polycarbonate body covers, so user could change them as they go, and would not be forced to buy additional monster protective cases.
Just buy a full clear case for like $5

I'd put a case on that to hide that ugly gloss plastic look that phone gives off(yes I know it's not plastic). It even scratches as easily as plastic. We've been trying to move away from the look for years now, especially on Android phones, so why is this kind of aesthetics being resurrected and labelled premium?
The jet black iPhone looks and feels ultra premium and is absolutely stunning. Car companies got away from high caliber paint finishes and chrome fenders years ago because it made cars more expensive! Stop settling for less when it comes to our electronics! A lot of time and effort went into making this special backplate for the iPhone 7. You should be thanking Apple for setting the bar as to the quality of craftsmanship consumers and consumer products deserve.
