It is not true that Quebec cuisine is young and without any History. Geez. There are long tradition of paysan food with meatpies (tourtière, cipaille, etc.), pies (maple sugar pie), pickled beets, sugar shack food (baked beans, pork rinds, ham, pea soup) etc.

This guy is hysterical. I’m headed to Quebec City in A couple of months and only wish he reviewed a few more “approachable” restaurants. We will be having some soup for lunch but still looking for some great dinner options.

I've agreed with him on all his other decisions, but soup & cie were rubbish, haha, he only gave them the review because they said he was handsome hahaha, they were brutal...a bowl of soup and some meat buried in leaves wow. I liked the Japanese guys myself, i would serve more lets just say, approachable food...for the Canadian palate, soup & cie...take a hike.

Sugar shacks aren't just tourist traps, a lot of locals go there too, me included tho not the same location. Shugar shacks are normally only open while in maple season: A short period when water freeze at night and melts in the day. This is the best kind of place to get real Canadian cuisine. And there are thousands of sugar shacks all over eastern and central Canada. Sugar shacks don't usually make you dance but they do play rigodon like the one they played except normally there's singing with it too. There's a lead singer who says a few words then everyone who wants to sing repeats after him and so on. If you are like me and wish to simply listen i recommend the band Carotté.

:( he waited forever for his mediocre looking soup i am convinced he chose it for the “pretty ladies” :( … i really wanted the first nations restaurant to win they are making a huge effort and it was a beautiful place. I am sure there are other things on the menu other than seal that people would enjoy. I also loved the family Japanese restaurant i would definitely go there on a regular basis

He first asked if they have Canadian wine, the server said they did, then he asked for a glass of Canadian WHITE. He wasn't wrong about asking for it, though I think his attitude about it stank. The sommelier brought an obvious bottle of red wine, and he could have said something before he poured an entire glass.

You don’t understand the premise of this show. He isn’t travelling there to ‘find the best.’ Not at all. He’s going there to find the best restaurant that is struggling severely, enough to want his help, people that are aware of who he is and restaurants that are massively different from other places he’s comparing them with. I don’t know why a lot of you people assume that he’s trying to find the best restaurant in your city. He isn’t doing that. He is travelling to your town to narrow down five restaurants that are doing unique things, that have a huge issue and need his million dollar review to continue surviving. They need a bigger space, they need more exposure, they need a different clientele etc. The restaurants you’re talking about DONT need his help, clearly. They’ve already got all of that under control and so why would it make sense for Giles to help those places when they literally don’t need any help? Haha.

Outright lunacy; that is, to compare such a wide range and variety of restaurants within the same review. Nonetheless, some notable observations and comments made during the review are indeed correct. In any event, and in my opinion, you don't represent the patrons who would habitually choose to eat in most of these restaurants. In closing, it would be interesting for you to identify for us all (viewers) your selecting process and sampling methodology! For all of these reasons, this review is bogus.

yes we do have a lot of asian food that are popular in Canada with a Canadian twist... But only Japanese thing popular here is Sushi. Ramen is actually not a big hit here. I hear its popular in the US tho. Only 3 minutes 30 in and i'm already questioning the competence of your "assistant" in her research abilities. The more popular asian foods in Canada are Thei and Cantonese. Mongolian is fairly popular too. I know ramen isn't popular because when i was a kid and watched naruto i learned about Ramen, wanted to try it, so i went to try to find some.... 10 years later not found any. Almost took 20 years to find imported ramen and when i finally tried it.... I didn't like it..... Talk about a waste of time.
    -
There is a real french Canadian soup that actually tastes good and its split pea soup & ham. Tastes far better then that ramen crap and is much healthier.

If you trully want the best you'll need to send in people to physically ask people on the street what is a best restaurants then go incognitos to try them themselves and then they decide a top 5 for you to try. Instead of a slopy job like this.

I must say your ‘L’affaire est ketchup’ review is 50% right. They are a bunch of kids having fun and getting drunk; there kitchen is a joke, but the food is just something else. In 2020, they are still going strong and did not need your million dollar review... anyway you are unknown in this Province so your review ain’t worth much here. Panache is where your buddy Paul McCarthy goes and stays every time he comes to Quebec city. He loves that place... They did not need your review either; whatever they said...Did you ask for white wine? I just heard Canadian wine... I’ll have to listen to your order again.... Will I watch this whole video... not sure.
