Great video! I am craving to play the old sega games I grew up with and are currently looking for a Sega CD. Your videos will help my decision on which model to purchase. Cheers
I got a Sega CD back in '94 or '95, Model 2. Got it when my folks recieved a big Tax return back then. Bought the model 2 and Sonic CD. The unit came with Sewer Shark and we also bought Mortal Kombat and Vay. I still have that very unit to this day!
Awesome video, the Sega CD is amazing. Quick note, the CDX Power Adapter works fine on the X'Eye, I actually use my X'Eye Power brick on my CDX all the time (same ratings and plug)
Do you know anyone that does repairs on CDXs? I picked one up not long ago and everything seems to work other than it won't read CDs (which I find a little strange since the laser still lights up). I've got a third-party power supply and I suppose that could be the issue as well, but it's spec'd to exactly what the CDX needs.
Thanks for the info guys! And by the way John: love the Sega CD video! I remember the first time I played on my brothers' at his apartment that I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
awesome video seeing the different sega cd variants. the cdx I like alot as its compact and the 1st model I also like because you dont see them very often. But usually the model 1 needs a fuse replacement which ain't too bad had to do that to mine. Also the cdx has a unique power supply 9.5v 1.5a which is getting harder to find as well.
I could tell the video was older when you listed the prices for the sega cd/cdx/ lol. now the cdx's and Jvc Xeye's go for crazy amounts on Ebay. closer to $300 with no box! any I love your collection and your Laid back attitude.
+John Hancock Ya it's cool cause it had a completely different box art. The European model 2 Genesis box arts were all killer. We had a couple minor variants with stickers
your one of those people whom are respected by all collectors world wide for being knowledgeable and humble, great video I really enjoyed it, if your looking for the European model of the sega CD 2 please contact me at any time as a have a number of duplicates in my collection and would love to help out a veteran and all round decent human being like your self John.
I didn't know about the Sega cdx! looks cool, is the built in display for cd track number? Cool! Gosh, all this makes me wish the Neptune was a thing, love the sleek design and thin profile it has...
"Hey, Wanna see something cool? " my journey ended with the 32X, at the time growing up my parents weren't huge fans of wires/multiple AC adapters laying all over the place.
Nice you mention the X-eye S-video jack....it was in overseas X-eye units but they removed it for us here in USA--why? Well, my X-eye now has S-vid thank you very much! And I have the power adapter too! It is a reliable machine! Did you know that you can power the Sega CD from the main console directly by adding 1 jumper? You do now! No more doubling of adapters! Go the secondhand stores and find a supply with 9V at 2Amps, wire in the old supplies plug, and you are good to go!
I loved my sega CDX and my pioneer laseractive. I have to get them both again along with my model one sega cd. They all were lost in a fire ten years ago in a house fire along with the rest of my collections . I have a model 2 thankfully but I need to find some games again I only have sonic cd.
Best combo is the High Def graphics Genesis 1 and a model 2 sega cd. best sound and reliability. I have repaired many many model 1 sega cds and most often they have tray alignment issues. i would say 1/3 if all the ones ive got were working inside 10 minutes with no parts. ive also seen em totally fried too.
I got mine about 2 years back for 200. It came with a genesis model 2 power cord though. Found a compatible plug for under $10 including shipping. Works perfectly
I picked up the first model Sega CD at a pawn shop complete in box for 30 bucks the guy thought it was a Dreamcast base so I played it off like yeah sure lol
Great video! I am craving to play the old sega games I grew up with and are currently looking for a Sega CD. Your videos will help my decision on which model to purchase. Cheers
hi!! i have a sega cdx with original ac power adaptor, this works for x eye? thanks!!

Keep up the great videos! Great to see you doing more now with your awesome collection!
Does the jvc xeye output RGB video and is it region free? 🤔
The model 1 still looks the classiest. Regardless of the reliability, it would fit in an AV rack well.

Were you able to find repairs I'm currently looking for a ribbon cable for the model 1. I'm in the same situation that you were in

Could you check if the load times are equal for these variants? I'd love to know as it's been rumored the x'eye has faster load times.

I think the JVC X-Eye cd-rom drive speed is faster than any other Sega CD model.
I never had an X'eye yet but would love one.
What about the model 2 with Tomcat Alley.
+Danr234 I had that one back in the day.
+John Hancock Ya it's cool cause it had a completely different box art. The European model 2 Genesis box arts were all killer. We had a couple minor variants with stickers
I got the model 2, but it doesn't open and close so well anymore and sadly, it doesn't work anymore either.

+Terry The 2D Maniac Wow, look me up on Facebook. I am currently pursuing Master System stuff the US did not get. Thank you for your kind words

Do you think you could provide us with an exact count of the total number of games you have for each system in your collection?
Nope
I have the JVC X Eye I bought it brand new at the time. How much do you think is worth ?

@@juelzsantana211 sold it for a lot and six times what I paid for 👍💯
So many to collect!! It is quite overwhelming xd
Omg you must have had the zoom on max settings.
How I miss those prices. Struggling to find a model 1 box now =(

This video was done years ago
+John Hancock Oh right sorry John I thought it was a new one
+Myst Blade videos like this take time and space to setup. Both in short supply these days.

jvc xeye is by far best
I got a Cdx way back .... I was told it had 32x functionality.... But seems like I read that it doesn't.
The CDX is my favourite way to play sega cd games but I still love my laseractive the best I just wish I could find one again.
Sega Cdx was awesome
Damn, I wish I had not sold my two CDX consoles!
Gr8fulDead69 you would have over 500 bucks by now
Loved the Sega Genesis,cd,32x, played the hell out of it.....

i really like your videos ;)
Sol Deace was the other name!
Things have definitely changed in the 2 years since this was shot. You’re lucky to get a working CDx for less than $300.
I got mine about 2 years back for 200. It came with a genesis model 2 power cord though. Found a compatible plug for under $10 including shipping. Works perfectly
A Sega CD video without Snatcher?? WTF??
OOOHBILLY was here

I SO WANT A JVC E'EYE. GIVE IT TO ME.
