- Complete coverage of Event 5, Stone to Shoulder, from the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Despite not winning any of the first four events, the ever-consistent Martins Licis entered this final event in prime position to clinch his first Arnold title with a big Atlas stone performance. He'd need 100 points to do so, but before he could celebrate, Martins got to watch Oleksii Novikov and Bobby Thompson make their own final statements in front of a raucous Columbus crowd.

Seeing the emotion from Novikov after lifting the stone is possibly one of the best things in sports I have seen.
I know i was going ooooooOOOOHHHHHAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAGAGAHAHSVKUCNLG KKNB2:29😱🤩🤩🤩🥳🤯🤬
Not be so emotional, so many times Aleksy just cheating, specialy in logs, no closing corectly his hands, this stone too shoulder, just say, you really brutal power, because is imposiible cheating, how you can compare Mateusz, with anybody, even Haftor is baby boy

Seeing how the top guys still continue to struggle with this event reinforces my belief that Mateusz's past performances in this event are among the most impressive feats of strength I have ever seen.
He was years ahead of the competition... the man is a monster.
Imo the most impressive strongman performance ever by mateusz
I love the way he handles log presses. Just cleans and presses it up in one smooth movement without pause.
@@tuahahussain9176 that and the way he lifted all 3 reps of that log in 2021 rogue invitational in 1 motion, not jerking and pausing at shoulders, but goign from lap to above his head in 1 motion of a clean jerk, all reps
I know it's been said many times before. But if that man could deadlift competitively, no one else would even have a chance
Martins is such a well rounded strongman. It's unreal. Even his weakest events he's generally good at.
He opened his log lift at 440 and didnt make another attempt. He knew it was all he needed, also a very intelligent and strategic athlete in that way.
@@anonanomalli You can only be strategic when you're got enough strength to play around with.

Novikov, with all that is going on in his country and his head, still manages to keep podium as ALWAYS. lb per lb he is the strongest man on earth by some margin
Arnold even dapped him up lol
Unfortunate that mateusz wasn’t here. He always dominates this event, holding the record at 5 shoulders. No deadlift would have been good for him.

It was so appropriate that he won the comp by lifting the Odd Hougen stone twice.
I just wonder how many times he’s lifted Odd’s stone over the years and this was the other competitors first time.
@@SkepticalBrother well..... i rewatched the vid and even though some of them grabbed it the exact same way Licis did, they werent able to Lift it..... so he clearly was superior in strength there...

Well this stone has been used in the Arnold's before I think 2019 or so.
@@ajeneameh4302 really is funny how people make things up. And for what reason?
I dont care if Martin's won. I'm a big fan. It's suttle things I notice that can tip an event in some one's favor. Most times it won't make a difference but small percentage of times it screws over the other participants. Integrity is needed not excuses.
Martins looked at Novikov when he finished dead in his eyes like “Good job… but your not winning” Then he goes out and dominates the event! Love the fight though in Novikov, with all the crap going on around him!!! Awesome!!!
Martins is a phenomenal athlete to watch. It seems there is no stopping him!
Thanks for the free coverage, Rogue!
35:45 I love that Loz can just see in martins's eyes that its going up before it happens.
Novikov is such a talented athlete. What a class act.
Congratulations Marteeens on such a big win! 🎇
Loved watching Novikov's fight! But huge props to Martins!
Amazing, Novikov's effort. Inspiring. Licis ' finish was amazing.
Martins is the true meaning of the world strongest man, all round well grounded
Martins "The Dragon" Licis! Congratulations and thank you for making it epic. I enjoy seeing your journey! Get Some!
Martins is already up there with the greats, consistency is king
Stays injury free, Martins will dominate the next few years , absolute beast
Being there and being a part of this was one of the best things I’ve ever experienced
Couldn't be happier for martinsssss
This year has been amazing for Arnold strong men
I think Novikov's left calf was hurt. But, Licis is the most clutch, primetime competitor there is in strongman. If he can win, he's not going to lose.
Awesome show. MARTINS !! Awesome man 💪 Congratulations on an amazing performance. What a close!
Was good to see Luke have a good day.
Fantastic event!
Wow, awesome to watch this, Rogue done fantastic!
Rogue has put on another excellent event. 👌💪
Feels like the strongman stuff got shoved off to the side so the main stage could have people slapping each other in the face. Stuff like that makes me question if I want to waste the gas and drive 2 hours south to see crap like that. It was literally hidden in the back corner of the building. If you didn't know it was there you would not know they had a strongman show. I enjoyed the powerlifting and jujitsu tournament. Plus the expo was cool as it wasn't really busy. But the garbage like the slap fighting needs to go.
Incredible! Congratulations to all competitors!
Love these guys. So good to see them have fun and enjoy the sport...and in front of a crowd again. And Novikov...to be there and perform with everything happening in his homeland...I don't know how he did it...huge dedication and heart. Big props to him...and big grats to Martins. Is it just my imagination, or is Martins looking even more huge than before? Great competition. Hope JF and Mateusz get well soon.
Man those last 2 runs by Novikov and Licis, talk about great minutes of strongman history. I get emotional watching it.
What a badass finish. Congrats Martins, well deserved
Thanks for sharing!!
Novikov🇺🇦💪
Way to go on the win champ!!!!
Can't believe they limit it to 30 seconds to lap it, especially with so many new competitors seeing the event for the first time. Should've had atleast a minute to lap it in my opinion. Made some trys very anticlimactic.
Was their a practice stone even?
@@Brandon-qd2lb nope, many peoples first time seeing this thing
Making the event easier is the ultimate anti climatic outcome. Remember they could study the stone, talk to those who had lifted it, etc, some learnt these lessons, dome did not.
@@martygough Giving them 30 seconds extra time for lapping it would have no effect on the difficulty, would it? Just compare any of the first timers to Licis or Novikov, whom both have done the event multiple times before - effectively having had way more time to optimize their lifts. Giving them more time would absolutely had made it more interesting both as a viewer and contestant.
@@martygough There is no way you're comparing looking at, and petting the stone to actually feeling the weightdistribution and grip. Try lifting any oddly shaped object close to your max for 30 seconds and see how far you get.
Novikov 🇺🇦💪
If Licis stays injury free this years WSM could be a clinch. Stoltman is psyched
Great job Licis!!!!!!
Lots of love from India to these strongmen

There is something delightfully creepy about the grin Kiki has as she informs us that Ode Haugen's EX wife gave him the stone, and that his death date will be added to it in the future. Funny, and quant, but a little off too.

Martins!
Martins, world's strongest man 2022.
They gave Luke credit for getting it to chest when he didn't. That let him tie for 4th in this event, which gave him the extra half point to tie for 3rd overall. That sucks for Bobby, who deserved 3rd place alone.
@@RM_3D on his second attempt, sure, on his first attempt it barely left his lap and they gave him points for getting it to his chest.
I hear ya that looked a little suspect giving him that 10 point, anyone know what happened to that dude who did 5 reps 3 years ago.
@@matt7iron 2 year old comment but he couldnt compete because of an injury
MARTINS!!!!!!!!
Is it safe to say that Martins has trained with that stone before? I’m curious since it’s his coaches/mentor stone
Exactly. I smell something rotten in Denmark.
I smell some salty losers in here :(
He's a veteran at the arnolds. He's seen the stone before in-contest.. experience is an advantage for the guys who have been around the sport a long time, but you can't really say it was unfair
@@mydood9675 you can’t either.
@@rodrigorivera8408 putting your guy crush aside for Martins man sweat. I have no dog in the game. Just pointing out the obvious.
When I hear Woodland, I know I'm in the right place.
According to JF himself, he believes this injury was career ending. 😞
It was ugly looking. I would not be surprised if it was a career ender.
It did look as if that 200kg log came straight down onto his knee from about 6 feet up, though angles can be deceptive.
I wonder if his age might be a factor in that decision - he's 39 and might have been looking at retirement in the next year or two anyway; if you get an injury that's gonna take you a year to come back from you might think differently about that than if you were in your early 30s?
Hoping he makes a full recovery anyway!
Arnolds should definitely get rid of that 30 seconds to the lap rule here. People like to see the struggle. It's what the arnolds is all about. As one comment mentioned it was anticlimactic in the case of some athletes turns getting cut short due to the rule. 30 seconds is like the blink of an eye on such an event. Some were just getting the feel for the stone when the 30 second rule stopped them.
Licis king of the stones 💪
2 comps in a row he’s beat Tom on stones . And always with the atlas stones
BIG KISS for KIKI DICKSON
👏👏👏🙌
That event was so unforgiving lol!
Mitchell had it. Come on
Novikov just walking around looks like he's hunting. Dude heads towards the drinking fountain like he's looking for prey.
Alll do 4. Mateusz record 5 hehe
Amazing for Martin's, so happy for him. But Big Z has 8 let not forget folks.
Zydrunas Zavickas aka strongest man who ever lived
I was shocked Tom Stoltman didn't even budge the stone. I know everyone's grip and bodies were shot (especially after the previous event), and, that Tom is a lot more accustomed to atlas stones than natural, but knowing how strong he is, especially with stones, I had figured we would've at least seen him lap it and possibly get it to his chest.
I'd expected him to do better too. As someone said up there ^ I think that 30-sec cutoff was a killer, it finished Bouldreaut (?) as well by the looks of it.
King of the stones lmao. He has never beat Martin’s at any stone event at any time
Final de película
the point system in this event may need a rework.
I would like to these events performed lb for lb to see who really is the strongest.

Mitchell should've got that tho ngl
Mateusz Kieliszkowski kontuzja ;(
Its impressive the amount of bloat Licis is able to achieve for competition, he looks 3x bigger than he does out of competition, its an insane amount of bloat.
Come to think of it, he does look much more massive in competitions than he does in his youtube channel training videos.
Anadrol
I hate to bring controversy to this but I do wanna make note that I had no doubt that Martins was going to crush that stone at the end. Why? Duh, it was his coaches personal stone. Is that a little unfair? Yes. Do I care? No! Hopefully each of the competitors had a chance to get familiar with the stone before the competition. Congrats to Martins! Stay healthy and lets see some repeats, Dragon!
Pretty sure he didn't use it for this prep. He's been training in his own gym in a different state I think and he's been training fot it with a sandbag
@@None-zv2qk yeah.but when he was working out at Odd’s gym for all those years and the stone was there. Do you think there was a do not disturb sign on the boulder
Martins has trained these kind of stones outside of Haugen's gym. Go watch the video where he's in Iceland with Hafthor training these stones. He consistently trains all kinds of implements to make himself well rounded. Most others emphasize their strengths and can't quite shore up their weaknesses. Everyone had Martins as the favorite when they saw the events.
@@CarnageIsILL like I said. I have no dog in the fight. I'm just noting the size, odd shape and the balance of the rock or rocks are not as comparable as you think. Here's an example. If you throw the javelin. 5 athletes are in the competition. They all trained with their own spears that have different, lengths, balance and weight. All are very strong and expert with their spears. But on the day of the contest its ruled everybody has to use #3s javelin. What are the odds #3 will win the competition. I'm hoping I'll get an honest answer but I'm not holding my breath.

Why was Romark allowed to enter the platform while the time for the event was still running? I understand he wants to support martins, but this is very unprofessional. Imagine if every athlete decides to do that, it would worst than an amateur show.
I like Romarck but he's become cringe at times. He moved the chalk closer to the platform than any other competitor got and he made sure he was in the shot hanging off of Martins as soon as he dropped the second shouldered stone. I'm getting Tom from Juji Mufu's channel vibes...
Because it didn't matter? Martins won from the first lift, competition is over. Extra one is for show and they don't mind all the extra excitement for the 2nd lift for fun anyway.
Tom Stoltman has no heart.
