you can do that without fiberglass. ABS plastic dissolves in acetone. instead of using fiberglass you cut a piece of ABS plastic (typical bumper, the harder brittle pieces of plastic used in the interior are in ABS) into small pieces and put in a glass jar, cover it with pure acetone. Close the jar tightly. In 12 to 24 hours, you will get a liquid plastic. If it is to liquid leave the jar open until you reach the desired consistency and apply like you would have done with epoxide. Clean the area that needs to be repaired with acetone before you apply it. I let it sit and harden for 2 days to be sure that is full strength.
This is very informative. Thanks! I tapped a snow bank in 5 degree weather that caused the lower bumper to crack. It's currently in the right place but to prevent it from coming undone, I might do this procedure.
Exact same issue. Cracked my washer fluid bottle too. Why would they put a part that costs so much right there? I know why but the car manufacturers are weasels.
Word of advice for your video production. The volume between the narrator and the tools should be equal. The viewers shouldn't have to be adjusting the volume back and forth every time you are using power tools.
I own an Altima and those bumpers are so thin it's crazy. I bumped a small snow berm and it was light snow and it cracked in the same area. Garbage covers.
Cool. plan to do this to my 04 Honda Accord. it has over the years had a tendacy of crunching into payment when i come out of steep driveways. this will keep me from having to replace the bumper.
Can I please email you a picture of the damage to my bumper so you can tell me if its something that can be fixed without replacing the whole bumper? The local auto body shops say no but with these kind of videos on UA-cam I don't know if I believe them.
the 4 or 5 guys having an OCD attack about this being a viable professional repair.... this was a DIY to save a Cracked beated up bumper on a car that probably won't last another 2 yrs.... So why would anyone want to fork out 300 dollars for an unpainted bumper and have it primed and painted for another 200 and 20 bucks in clips cause u have to special order them as no one locally has them ready on the shelf to buy... This repair if done right will last longer than the remaining life of the car... only thing i would do differently is id prep the entire bumper and paint and primer it completely. I keep a Pint of my car's matching color and a compressor and gun in my garage just cause.... u never know....
+@halloweenholiday4446 We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Need to use filler primer and sand entire bumper with 400-600 grit. Use a real 2 part clear coat. If using a rattle can use “spray max 2k” with activator. The urethane clear coat will keep the base coat protected and it will look nice. Also, don’t use fiberglass, use epoxy
Durability is not guaranteed if you don't plant iron, just patch it with fiber only, when the time will break again, you should plant iron and then patch fiber,
Personally I'd just go ahead and replace it. But that's just me as a body tech, while cheapskate me says to fix it with a melted milk jug and super glue then fill the front with ramen noodles. Then sand with a sand stick then go over it with rattle can sing stage.
Thermopolystyrene resin with organic peroxide catlyst hardner IS plastic.Used in Bondo with talc.Used in cultured marble with ground limestone sand.Used with fiberglass is woven roving, mat or from a chopper gun, sprayed onto a mold..It absolutely does bond with plastic although with certain styrene plastics it can distort or melt the plastic as it hardens.
should have 5 min epoxy the joints alignments first. sand back part and use a layer of resin . then next use 2nd layer w fglass. try to crumple sheet of glass for it to conform to the shape. but your style is good enough
That's not a sustaining repair, nor is it a professional repair. This video was may 2019, it's now February 2021 and I guarantee that repair is visible...

Where is the direct link to buy the fiberglass/epoxy patch you used in the video?
+bgp automotive thank you for checking us out. I apologize we currently do not carry the fiberglass patch used in this video.
@@1AAuto So this is a useless video. Thanks

If you don’t like it don’t watch it
How about "great video" or "thanks for everything you do" and then go on with your rant. Do you even hear yourself?
Constructive criticism helps the channel improve.

Is that pumper made of plastic or fiber glass?
+Sir knight sam Thanks for checking us out. The bumper in this video is plastic. Hope this helps you out!

Excellent demonstration.👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Fiberglass repairs won't work on those types of bumper plastic material. Use the two part epoxy with a screen for reinforcement.
seemed to work in the video... can u clarify?
Nice work! Takes a lot of patience.
How long did you wait? What amount of time would you recommend to wait before 1st sanding?
You should put a small hole at the end of the crack to stop hole from going on further..
ah thats a good idea! i get the physics of it.
Awesome job brother!👍
This is like the best video I have seen yet thank you.
Best UA-cam channel ever. Thanks for all your tips.

What fiberglass filler did you use?? I have regular bondo but i need a filler that won't crack when the plastic fllexes

Hey man, ever think about muting the grinding noise?
I like the practical approach you took, rather than perhaps text book learnt something to , thats a strange feeling to have on YT
+Colin Lyon Thanks for the feedback!
I can't find the repair kit on 1A Auto's website can you provide a link?
Nice work! Thanks for the video!
Do you recommend sanding between costs of primer and paint?
No response 🤣
LOL
Excellent job here , really good video
Parts used?
Got a cracked hole in my black bumper cover on a kia sportage 2023 due to a hitch. Any recommendations to getting that part ?
+@halloweenholiday4446 We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Does the kit come with all these items but the grinder I assume? And paint?

How do you take the number off? Without making a bigger mess?

not everyone wants a cheap mismatched bumper or can afford the 300 to buy an unpainted one new.

Could you have used the fiberglass filler for the back also? Instead of the fiberglass with resin.
+Natural 1 We appreciate the feedback! There are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair and this could work as well. 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto thank you sir. Good job 😁
+Natural 1 Thanks for the feedback!
Wrong method of repair as fibre glass never bonds with plastic. Little force will be enough to break the adhesion.
Would you recommend an epoxy better than the fiber glass method?
fiber glass is used to keep it rigid. the epoxy that he applied is what is holding it together plastic to fiberglass.

Excellent video thanks bro 👍🙏🏼🙏🏼
What does a job like this cost to get done?
+@swayywit2ys This usually costs a few hundred dollars depending on the type of vehicle and mechanic.
Dual action sanders do spin it’s called a dual action for a reason it spins and oscillates
u could see it spin in the video
How much do something like this cost 🤔
I should of went this route. Mine was similar to this on my Lacrosse bumper.
I felt the fiberglass in my hands ☠️

Yeah ima just pay a body shop 😂
why the hard way???
You should have masked the pliers
Is this the first time you used sand paper and filler?
Step 1: Learn to pay more attention
Was it too much to paint whole pumper? lol

I agree,
So what do you think is a professional repair?
@@jackieofalltrades5328 professional = buy a 300 dollar unpainted bumper and paint it to match....
