Lord Kitchener THE GRAND MASTER of the Artform. The Road March King. Aldwin Roberts “ The Grandmaster” known in the calypso world as “ Kitchener” had been singing and writing calypso music from the late 1930's to present. A native son of Trinidad and Tobago (Arima) he was fascinated by the “ Steel Pan” ( an instrument created from empty oil drums) from his early years. He composed for “ Bar 20" a steel orchestra in the early 1950's. His first calypso saluting calypso music was “ The Beat of the Steelband” and from then to now he continues to arrange and produce hit music for the Steel Orchestra. He won Road March title ten times during the era of 1963 through 1976. His musical arrangements have been geared for the National Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago “The Steel Pan”. Although many have followed in his footsteps none has come up to par. Some of his hits include,” Rain-o-Rama”, “Maggie”, “Symphony in G”, “Symphony on the Streets” and “Mass in May”. Kitchener has traveled an performed throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Canada and the United States. He is the first calypsonian to travel and perform in Jamaica in the 1940's before the birth of reggae.

Words cannot express how much The Grand Master means to me and my Family! My Uncle Lee played brass in The Review Tent from when it opened well thru 2 decades and Kaiso and Pan is all I knew growing up! Kitchener's music in particular are my earliest memories! He will NEVER be forgotten! He is the King of Calypso and Pan!!!
