      @cpadiversity I'm contemplating on getting my Cissp Certification, I'm a Certified Residential Appraiser, however I feel becoming an accountant has always attracted me,.
      Question: what is the time frame for becoming a cpa, I feel I can acquire my cissp certification alot faster.

    • @cpadiversity
      @cpadiversity  10 місяців тому

      @MrDmacc1 Both CPA and CISSP are great certifications. However, they speak to two different subject matter expertise. CISSP is great for info security and CPA for accounting focus. The beauty is getting them both. 💰💰💰
      To get a CPA you have to make sure that you have your bachelors degree or at least 150 hours of qualify college credits , then pass a CPA exam, then there’s a number of hours of experience you have to earn. Reference NASBA website for requirements for the state you are interested: nasba.org/exams/cpaexam/
      For the CISSP, you all need bachelor degree and pass the CISSP exam. Here is a good reference: www.isc2.org/certifications/cissp/cissp-experience-requirements
      Whether one is faster than the other depends upon your specific situation. If you are speaking from a exam standpoint, I think the CISSP is the quicker option. There are a lot more topics on the CPA exam. The important thing is to pick one and get started. My recommendation go for both 💪🏾💪🏾 🤑

      @cpadiversity I feel going for my Cissp Certification will be quicker to enter the field of cyber security and is one of the highest certs in the industry, My concern is what will the job market be like for someone with a new Cissp Certification, If you can recommend any type of companies that offer entry level experience while Im working towards this Certification or any internship would be appreciated.
      Thanks in advance God Bless 🙏🏾

I worked as an accountant in various technical and operational roles (SEC Reporting, Financial Controller, and Operations Controller) for a number of years and during COVID I decided to go back and obtain my CPA. I'm not sure how much not having my CPA impacted my career over the past 20 years but figured I should look for a positive of the months of sheltering in place.

      @@cpadiversity I researched that I should do a lot of internships. I want to explore the big 4 make sure that’s a area I want to be (private or public) in your opinion, which one of the big 4 you like? Or you only have experience with one?

    • @cpadiversity
      @cpadiversity  2 роки тому

      I have experience with EY mainly. Some experience with PWC. I have interacted with the others. The big 4 has clients that are some of the biggest and respected companies in the world. Some well known and others not so well known. Working for any of the big 4 will provide you with unique and memorable work experience and career opportunities. Most people that work in Big 4 are good colleagues, although you will find the occasional hard to deal with person or experience micro aggressions or unconscious bias due to, again, the lack of diversity and education on DEI. Overall big 4 is a great career opportunity, which is why everyone wants to be there. You can find great work experience in smaller regional firms, so I would not count them out as contenders. As for public, I am not as familiar. My understanding is that the earning are fair but not as competitive as private (it’s government so….). There are benefits and opportunities to going into the public sector for sure. Truth be told, we need more accountants and CPAs that work in public sector. I think public has challenges because the working government has its own unique challenges. Public can be very rewarding, I just think you have to do your research 🧐 on the opportunities that appeal to your interest.

    Woah. Woah. Woah! I'm happy you mentioned this 5:56
    I keep seeing people ask the point of sitting for the test before completing the additional 30 credits required and other intervals before licensing, but what happened to you is a great reason why! I'm so happy you were able to transition and benefit significantly.
    I also didn't realize how few Black people have CPAs 🤯
    I've been working in accounting for over a decade. I'm a clerk now. I can't honestly say this is something I 'want' to do 😅 or hold passion for. I feel a lot of that comes from the stress of the job and society, moreso than the actual work. I'm good at what I do. I'm not getting any younger and it makes sense to complete my education and go for the CPA to advance and explore new areas within the career until I have a better idea of what I do want and then build that up vs the hamster wheel of uncertainty I'm presently in. Sometimes we fall into complacency and fear of failure, but I love how you encourage challenging oneself to reach for the top! What I've seen from your videos thus far has been motivational in my decision.
    Thank you and continued success to you!

      Thank you and Your welcome 😃. I understand that the work can be challenging. It is at times for sure. I do believe that we can find out a lot about ourselves by working through challenging and what may seem daunting tasks/goals. Sound like you have to put in a great deal of time and energy into what you are currently doing at work. You deserve to place that time and energy as an investment in yourself as well. Maybe going after the CPA license is one avenue for doing so. 💭.
      Just something to think about. Keep up with our content. Hopefully something we post will help to provide some clarity in your decision. 💪🏾. Thanks again for your contribution.

      Being a CPA does assist with having for financial control. For one you have more earning power 💰 as a CPA compared to many other professions. Also you have education about money and money management. Being a CPA in itself does not entirely give you financial freedom but it helps. The key to financial freedom is EDUCATION. In the world of accounting, I hear accounts say often that a company can have a mediocre CPA or a really good account. This is coming from people who didn't pass the CPA exam. Is there beef between the two group's?

    • @cpadiversity
      @cpadiversity  7 місяців тому +1

      No beef. It is true though. Some people are good at accounting but have challenge passing the CPA exam. Maybe because they are not good test takers or the other sections of the exam are harder for them to pass (like audit or regulation). However, they have great experience and insight from having worked in the field. Non CPAs can still be great business professionals. Having a CPA though opens additional opportunities in many cases as well.

    I have some questions I would like you or any other Accountant that sees this to anwer.
    How fun or boring is Accounting, do you ever feel like your dragging youself to go to work everyday? When you were younger up until now, were numbers/math something that always facinated you and should that be the case if going into Accounting? Do you ever get burnt out? Especially with tax season?
    Thanks in advance to whoever replies.

    • @cpadiversity
      @cpadiversity  2 роки тому +3

      Great questions. It’s all about perspective and the opportunities you create for yourself within the career. I have traveled 🛩 the world 🌎, met great people 🧑👩🏿‍🦰👨🏽‍🦲, ate amazing food 🥘, driven nice cars 🚗, and made good money 💵 during my time in the profession. I call that a great time 🙌🏾 and lots of fun. I also learned a lot 📚.
      I personally liked math as a favorite subject; however, I currently do not work with numbers often in my role as a risk consultant. Accounting is more that just calculating numbers. Check out our video here 👉🏾: ua-cam.com/video/fL5Ghhz0kSI/v-deo.html
      I never feel like I am dragging myself to work because I love what I do. That’s because I find purpose in the work I do. As accountants, we help many people and organizations with challenges and business operations, so I am very interested in the things I do everyday. Most days I find there is not enough time in the day. 😅
      The work is challenging and demanding of long hours at times, busy season included. The rewards often outweigh the time commitment. As for getting burnt out, work hard play hard 🤘

      Yes! Because you can then pursue entrepreneurship as a CPA 👨🏾‍💼. With a CPA license, you can start your own CPA practice and have clients of your own. We need to change our mindset and stop relying on other people to always “give” us a job or opportunity. There is enough opportunity for us to carve a path of our own. Thanks for sharing. Have you watched this interview with Felix LaCroix 👉🏾 ua-cam.com/video/0bGuRqn6abA/v-deo.html
      I promise this interview will give you some encouragement. 💪🏾
      One of the things that gave me the right tools to pass was someone being 💯with me about what it will take to really get a passing score. He told me that you have to be confident that your know EVERY answer before you sit for the test. I discuss in more detail here 👉🏾 ua-cam.com/video/UN9OH-qjbjA/v-deo.html
      This interview with Patrick Pierre is also a good one for understanding what it takes to get over the obstacles for passing 👉🏾 ua-cam.com/video/Cf17iAac85I/v-deo.html
      Keep pushing. It’s only going to make it that much sweeter when you do pass! 👑 Happy Studies 📚
