I simply cannot play onstage without my Shaffer replica Tower. The Tower,Storm or replica pedal are all available from the SoloDallas website direct, or their many retail re sellers worldwide. They are an essential part of any rig. Some of the worlds greatest influential guitar players now have the SoloDallas replica Tower in their rigs and that list is growing all the time. Awesome demonstration clip of the Tower Johan!
Damn, that sounds good. These subtle pre-amps can do wonders. Ritchie Blackmore had his reel to reel deck. Ep3 preamps are really magic. I have a ChaseTone Secret preamp that's on all the time. Can't live without it.
That sounds absolutely glorious! It's Johan in a pedal/box! Now if only it came with the sweet riffs and timing. I've had my eye on one of these for a while. That was one of your best tones. Love it.
Very cool. I’m a big believer that solid state preamps can really add a lot of flavor to any signal. Sometimes when I record my singing I use 2-3 preamps daisy chained, to get these qualities.
I've got the Storm pedal version and it generally tends to make the sound fuller: squashing the treble I guess and I reckon it may help counteract the very trebly nature of some Marshalls and help give the midrange crunch by acting as almost an anti-treble-booster
Soooo difficult to find that elusive little slice of sweet, just-right distortion that we all look for endlessly with pedals, amps etc. But you and SD did it here. Cool!
I actually just compared my Solodallas Storm pedal to a CS-2! The CS-2 has a great distorted tone when cranked, but the solodallas does it even more so. More Range, more Guts, adjustable highs, less noise.
Love it! It's the only one in my rig thats nearly ALLWAYS ON 8) And damn.... it souds incredible with fender amps too!! Nothing better than the Schaffer
Angus Young has been using this SoloDallas system in the studio and on tour since they were created. There is a great podcast out there with the creator of the system about his search for the ac/dc sound and how Angus Young started using them. The new version not the original
Johan Segeborn It’s from the Amps and Axes podcast #123 “Fil SoloDallas Oliviieri” it’s from 2017. One of the host is the guy who made Buddha amps and pedals.
I often wonder what would've happened if both Malcolm and Angus played around with these at various settings? As I understand, Malcolm ran his Gretsch Firebird straight into the amp.
Well, it sounds like a boost with a bit of compression. A bit fuzzy in spots, maybe from how it's hitting the amp perhaps a bit too hard, unless that's from the unit itself. On a side note I think I hear your snare wires buzzing a bit, I often to forget to turn them off too when recording other stuff.
hi johan I've been experimenting with guitar speakers and I'm curious if changing the depth of the speaker cone to the back of the cab and or modifying the back of the cab material on the inside of the cabinet changes the sound at all. I also wonder what happens if you raise the speakers to sit on top of a thicker baffle or sink the speakers into the cabinet more with an offset baffle does.
@psycho'si carter The original Tower was the worlds first wireless guitar system. Developed in the mid '70s by Ken Schaffer. The tone it produced by expanding and companding the signal from the transmitter to the tower itself was an actual by product of the unit.It gave Marshall's and other amps that God Tone. There is absolutely no gain or distortion!. What SoloDallas was able to do was reverse engineer the original Shaffer unit and reproduce the the expanding and companding tone without the wireless component.
For the very same reason the boutique industry even exists...Marshalls always need help. Either they are old and have drifted, thereby sounding good by a 'fudge factor', you mod them, or you need a box. In the 70's you had to try 30 to get a good one. See an interview by Dylana (Jamie) Scott. Marshalls are over-hyped IMO. Those that helped create them left them early on, or modded them, like Blackmore or Townshend. Today, they copy the boutique industry which showed them how to do it right. Of course, Johan could play a cat through a pizza and make it sound good...LOL!
I'm glad Rarest Pepe made the comment that it sounds like Johan playing through another vintage Marshall! Haven't been playing guitar long and I was starting to think there was something wrong with my perception of this type of music. Isn't compressing and losing fidelity to the original performance what Neil Young has been so against? He has a real dislike for MP3.
@@lynetteaylsworth4739 I have an old Marshall, and you can get great tones from it by using a compressor. Basically that's all this circuit does, it's just in a glorified retro package. I always wondered how Angus got such good distortion out of a low gain amp and it's because he was using some compression to push that input stage just like a compressor or a slightly turned on Tube Screamer.
Armchair Coaches! Look the point is to Dig on the featured piece of gear not start an online forum describing how you can achieve the same effect with kitchen utensils. Imho

I’ve had the honor of “watching” this unit be developed through the years. Great product. I own one.

These are absolutely fantastic , - have used one for years. Even the Storm pedal is recommendable .
Finally! Johan makes a video about this pedal!
Cheers Patrik!

Tower and pedal are basically same thing, only difference is that pedal is made of modern (small) components.
Or...if your amp is wrong in the first place, this may fix it...? LOL!
SoloDallas has made a really good Johan in a box emulator.
Love it! The distortion on -10, -10, -10, Up, Down sounded AMAZING to my ears.
Thanks!
Was wondering when you'd get to this one. Been watching SoloDallas' videos for years. That piece of gear is really something else.
You’re guitar playing is so f’n good. Straight out of the 60’s & 70’s rock god playbook.
Soooo difficult to find that elusive little slice of sweet, just-right distortion that we all look for endlessly with pedals, amps etc. But you and SD did it here. Cool!

I'd love to see this A/B'd with either the Boss CS-2 or Keeley Compressor.

Yes comparison with the 2 knob keeley would be interesting
Wow, I just mentioned this one in the last video. I was really hoping you were going to demo this unit. Beautiful tone, amazing.
BTW this one comes as well in a pedal they have in case you are short on bucks.

Gotta hand it to ya Johan you always seem to have the coolest gear available for demos
Thanks Stepvan! :-)
i just picked up the solodallas schaefer replica pedal for $180. can't wait to add it to my already much too large pedalboard!!
Nice Johan!!! Can't wait to peep this!! Love your content Bruddah, keep it going!!! Cheers and "Let's Go"!!

This is just a great sound gear! I was wondering if it's possible to get it for me. Great thanks! C.U.

Podcast with Phil from solodallas?
You mean Solodallas Website and UA-cam channel? Great stuff indeed
maartenbrain01 yes I believe it’s from the old amps and axes podcast. I will look up and post correct one if I am wrong. It was a great podcast

The Rocket .45 Caliber Pedal is great for the Malcolm tone.
These are so cool! Thanks for demoing them!
Thanks my friend
My TSR Storm came Friday. My god. It knocked a certain silver horse pedal off my board as my always-on “secret sauce” pedal...

Greenbacks cab with attenuator?
@@maartenbrain01 yes, that also. Powerbrake
Have you tried the pedals? The Solodallas and the replica pedal? Interested to get your view.... BIG difference in price
I’m gonna get one very soon!
The compression sounds great with the setup.
👍🇺🇸❤I don't think this device is 4me ?
That's great. Didn't know there was a reissue.
Pls, make a video with the squier classic vibe 70s
Holy Crap! great Tones!
Sounds mean! Johan, is that a Black Panther Ludwig kit beside you?
Thanks Joe! Yeah, it’s an early 70s Classic maple half white and half black panther :-)
@@JohanSegeborn That's nice! good find!
I really wonder how the pedal version compares. Great sound
Thanks! Haven’t tried the pedal yet

Hi! Yeah all those things will influence tone. Good ideas for videos
How does it compare to a Rangemaster-type?✌
do you listen to drumtracks or a metronome on the headphones?
No, I just wanna hear the recorded signal clearly to adapt playing
@@JohanSegeborn wow. you have really great timing then

Thanks Lou ;-)
Seems to add a lot of treble. You must have set the pretty dull, but I will say your riffs and tone are incredibly good! Cheers!
I should add that I think I need one of these!
Sounds killer. What about the pedal version?
Thanks, if I get the chance I will do that one too

I thought this was a wireless unit. But I see Jordan plugged in. ???
Sounds like any other Johan demo of vintage marshall.
Yeah, it does. And here the unit is applied on a clean amp. I usually crank the amp to get these tones.
Just...wow
Thanks! :-)
Ooh.
Would this be good with a cheaper type amp that needs a lot of boost to sound good?
I think it would
