My thought is the focus height is set for the surface. As it cuts deeper the beam widens. Have you tried to set the focus height so the focus point found be half way through the 12mm board? We obviously know the slightly out of focus beam cuts below the focus point, why not also use the slightly out of focus beam above the focus point. That would put the focus point deeper while still running at a reasonable speed.
Hi, yeh that would definitely be an option I know alot of people use this method when engraving large pieces as it leaves a wider engrave takes less time and is quicker but I’m not sure how that would go for cutting wonder if it would be a wider cut line may work good for larger cuts but not sure would be good on small detailed stuff but that being said theres only one way to find out I’ll check that out and see if that works 🤙🏽 thanks for watching! Cheers, Matt
I just bought the orange Vevor 100w with built in air cooler. I’ve added air assist and a refrigerated chiller. The website say it will cut 15mm in 1 pass but I’m struggling with 9mm (Baltic Birch ply) at 1 pass? I’ve focused and cleaned lens. 65% power and 10mm/sec speed cuts through but it’s not a nice clean cut. Any advice?
I had the same result with my 80w some months ago, it will do 10mm acrylic though. I think if you did 1 pass and then lowered the head for another pass it would go through.
Yeh I have to agree on that mate it’s almost like it gets a certain depth and then won’t go any deeper due to the focal point changing, thanks for watching 🤙🏽
You need a longer distance focus lens. To put it simply, the focused, or "cut" part of the laser beam is longer, making it easier to cut thicker materials. I'd use a 5" focus lens.
I've got the same 80w from vevor except I have a red laser head. Just curious what type of head do you have and what lense? Because I have my head pretty close to the material for it to cut. Cheers
Hey yeh cool I’m not sure what type of head I have it’s blue and I think the lense is a standard 2” lense I have replaced from the one it came with as I messed up my alignment and ended up cracking the original so replaced with a cloud ray same size, do a ramp test to find your correct focal night my machine came with a small acrylic tag that was 15mm after I did my ramp test found it to actually be 11mm so I cut new tags to suit, If your closer than say 10mm I’d say your all alignment is out so you may need to check that 🤙🏽 thank for watching cheers, Matt
Thoroughly enjoying your content. Very informative! Thanks for the video!

What setting did you use to manage to cut through the 10 mm MDF?
10 mm/sec and 50% power will do 10mm mdf
Do yo do 101 training?
I enjoy your content 🥰
