Me and my 4 kids, 3 cats and dog were homeless for 6 months due to debt. We had an amazing Whanau Ora social worker who walked with me thru this traumatic time. We were very vulnerable and were abused by "family" and "friends". Scum I'm glad to be rid of. 4 years later we r in a HNZ house and my kids are smashing life. Love to all my homeless brothers and sisters.
Their homelessness has nothing to do with 'foreigners' coming to the country, 'taking our jobs' ... it is just not true. Our dislike of homeless individuals is learned, it is taught. We are raised with this condemnation. Instead, we need compassion more than anything; compassion for those who were unable to 'make it' in our schizophrenic society. It's our schizophrenic society that we need to scrutinize, not the fallout it creates, the homeless people.
I live off Queen street so I see a lot of the homeless people everyday, they have built themselves a small community with eachother. They busk together, they smoke & drink together. If anything we know these individuals need help but are they truly wanting it. You could help them for 2 months & the streets will always be the place they come back too, they are broken souls! Tremendously sad, I'd like to do a documentary with them on how they find the streets home. When i drive pass them, they're happy use to being there.
I was homeless once and what i saw was a lot of mental ill people who wanted to be homeless, it was a great insight into these people.I was more scared of the feral kids who would beat you up for fun
Whanau need to start heading to the closest Marae and park themselves on their! It just disgusts me when I see Marae after Marae EMPTY and yet our people are homeless! WTF!
I was on the streets @ 16 in Wellington 1986. I got a job and never looked back. I've got my own home and my life is on point. If you want a better life it just takes a bit of work. Sorry for the ppl going through it.
We should all be reaching out to our fellow brothers and sisters even just in a small way, cup of coffee, some food, give them some of your unwanted clothing or just say hello how are you.
I was homeless by choice told my mum at 16 I'm off for a hitch ended up on Tauranga streets for three months then Auckland streets for 4 years then prison 3 years never again
Why are our marae not open to the homeless? After all, haven't 80% of our marae received grants to upgrade our marae! Isn't it time our marae gave back! If you haven't got room for our homeless, why should you receive any kind of grant! Kia ora!
Drugs acohal smokes I have seen people who want to stay on the streets cause they cant follow rules all these people that think the government haven't done enough.how much money do you throw at these people
I feel sad for our people is becoming a rising number in NZ so sad 😢..if there's one thing I can think of is fight night to raise money for homeless and addictions I know alot care out there and I'm one of them..I'd wish that friends will come and help me support our people so they too can live comfortably and have a plan for the addictions so many people are trying to help
They need work! But not the 9 to 5 sort. A place to turn up and get a day's work. One day a week will eventually turn into two. And so on and so forth. Step-by-step bit by bit.

They are homeless because of their own choices and blame for their own mistakes
