How do you know when the pregnancy is over if you don’t know how many pups she is having? Cos surely u could be waiting for two hours in between pups which would be worryyyy big but there may not be any left to come?
For sure you can be waiting for a couple hours in between. We have had it where it lasts for half of a day. You can typically feel if there is another puppy in there.
Vanilla ice cream is fine when whelping. You certainly wouldn't give them milk or ice cream on a regular basis. Weighing the pros and cons, the pros definitely outweigh any potential cons when whelping a litter. :-)
