  • This is how to transfer a pattern to use for pyrography or wood burning. It also works for color images printed on a laser jet printer. I show the color method in another video called how to iron transfer color pictures to wood.

    The other couple of things I do with this method is firstly to finely spray your wood with water (the steam created helps to transfer the image better). The other thing is to use a desoldering station with a hot air blower. This will allow you to burn the edges to create an even more realistic effect.
    Can I take this opportunity to say I have a deep respect for teachers who think outside the box when educating our children. You do a fantastic job in what you do and your passion just in your videos, shows the commitment you give to the children in your care. Thank you so much, words never seem enough and as a parent, you are my hero.

    Thanks for this. I’d been through so many transfer tutorials this week. Almost destroyed my laser printer feeding plastic paper through it. Your iron technique is what made the magic happen.

    Oh my, I have tried to transfer copies to wood using the "transfer tool" for wood burning & it ALWAYS burned the wood. I never thought to use an iron!! Wow now I can go back and do all the patterns I've already copied and cut out!! Thank you so much!!!!

    I think the image after ironing looked good enough, gave it an antique feel to it being as the lines were kinda broken up....makes me wonder if you could just put a finish over the ironed ink image without the ink smearing

  • @TheMrByrom
    @TheMrByrom  11 років тому +3

    Make sure you are using a fresh photo copy and the wood is sanded smooth. It takes a couple of passes and the iron needs to be hot. I have 2 other videos showing this process. Also don't use an ink jet printer.

    I've transferred this way - not using an iron but a special tip on my burner and one thing I can add to your tutorial here is that you NEED to make sure that you heat ALL of the wood (not just where the picture is. If you only heat part of the wood it will take the stain differently and you will end up with a blotchy finish. The heated wood doesn't take the stain as well and ends up lighter.

    Great job. Try using water pencils and you can shade it with a wet Q-tip. Works really well.

    You can get an inexpensive wood burning kit with a flat round tip that works very well, and is even better than an iron for smaller transfers with a lot of detail (for instance, a logo).

    Nice job here ~ while you peeled back the paper transfer I might suggest just a little longer with the hot iron only because you might move the transfer paper ~ nice touch to add color and a varnish over the box cover will do nicely

    You can also do the same thing using acetone and no iron. Prep the same way, then wet some cloth with acetone and rub. You'll see the image through the paper. Let it dry, or use a hair dryer. The paper will peel right off and you'll have the image.

    The subjects covered in this wood working book “pepe amazing plan” (Google it) ranges from wood types to tool types as well as uses. A few other subjects range from the several types of wood along with their distinct levels of difficulty with regards to handling them. In case you are still a novice in woodworking, then you will find this book very beneficial.

    TY for saying what sort of wood, paper, and iron you used. I tried this using some off the shelf stuff (wood) from wal-mart, regular paper, and an old steam iron with no steam. I pressed on max heat for about ten minutes. The image transferred, barely. Gonna grab some pieces of different wood, and test again. Curious if you have done this method with other types of wood?

      Candice Emery You really shouldn't use this method if you are going to burn over the lines. Transferring with graphite paper is better. The method in the video releases toxins in the air as you burn over the ink lines...it also can ruin your burner tips.
