Good afternoon! I just saw your video and you asked about details re Ms Kloke. So I did an Ancestry search. A very blurry newspaper article came up re the trial. Apparently Mr Neal accused his wife of infidelity…convenient. What I can make out, her Mom testified that 1. Tom had told her he owned a gun when he advised his MIL he was moving. 2. MIL went to Palm Springs to see her daughter and everything in the house was gone except his son’s bike, including the gun. 3. Mom said she knew her daughter’s character and did not believe Tom. A 2nd newspaper article re the trial said that Mr Neal was sentenced to 13 (or 15…very blurry) years for shooting his wife AS SHE SLEPT ON THE DIVAN! Involuntary manslaughter which is a crock if she was asleep! He obviousky got out early. Very sad story. A 3rd article was re 3 witnesses who testified. Co-workers of Ms Neal. Ms Neal filed fir divorce on the grounds of physical cruelty and the couple had been separated 10 weeks before her death. They had been married 2 yrs and had a 1 yr old son. A 4th article said Ms Neal had spurred Mr Neal’s advances that night, her capri pants were torn and she was shot in the temple around midnight. Merry CHRISTmas!
Thank you for this Steve. Tom Neal was an intetesting guy. I know him from DETOUR mostly, but he does pop up in a fair amount of films. This was fascinating.
Avery special and beautiful Christmas and New Year to you and Jim. Steve, at this point nearing 70 as you recently hit, I count you as one of my top five blessings at this point in my life. I was just thinking back maybe seven years to when I first found you. Thank you!
I'm not acquainted with much of this gentleman's work, but it was still interesting to hear a background on him. I absolutely love all your content steve. I'm a loyal subscriber and have never missed any of your videos including the more recent ones where you're showing travel locations. Again, Merry Christmas to you and Jim and all your loved ones
Hi Steve!! Good Morning and thank you for taking us on a Wonderful Sunny Walk! I love crime stories and this interesting, Neal was a very handsome man. 🌺
Hi Steve, it's very refreshing seeing video tours of Palm Springs from a resident & not from real estate agents trying to sell homes. BTW I subscribed Thank You .
Hi Steve, this is your friend Gary from body-numbing freezing Rochester, NY. I want to wish you and Jim a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. All the best !
Thank you for another enlightening video I got a lie I don't remember him but I'm with you 6 years for taking a life I don't think so that's just not. Blessings to you and yours
Great video on a terrible subject! I remember Tom Neal from the film noir classic “Detour” (1945) and knew about his fight with Franchot Tone, but didn’t realize that he’d murdered his wife in Palm Springs! Honestly, I think the short prison sentence was a reflection of the times: the victim was a woman, and she’d been accused of cheating on her husband, thus, a shorter sentence than if he’d killed another man, or, say, a child. You could also expect the same if the victim were a minority of any sort. That’s how it was back then, unfortunately 😕
Hi Cary, I agree with you about the sentence being a reflection of the times, but sadly I don’t think all that much has changed since then. Although you are in the legal field, so you obviously know a lot more about it than I do. I hope it has changed. Thanks for sharing that. 👍
Interesting. April 1st is my birthday. I turned 6 in 1965. I never heard of Tom Neal. That's so tragic that he killed his young wife. Seems like actors truly do get away with murder. Definitely look for her grave site. Thanks for sharing, Steve. ❤❤
Great video Steve! Two comments and a question for you: • Tom Neal has movies on Tubi (free movie app, no fees) right now. I’ve honestly never heard of him but now curious as to how he was as an actor. • I googled and found that in California disclosure of a death (violent or natural) is only required if it happened within the last 3 years. Beyond that you must inquire if there was a death, and how the death occurred. Maybe someone in-the-biz can elaborate. • So the question is…Would you move into a house that had a death occur in it?
If the house is very old, the odds are high that a death did take place. Not a homicide but a natural death. Read an article a few years ago where it was stated that it takes twice as long to sell a house where a homicide has taken place.
Thanks for the heads up about the movie. And that’s a very interesting question. If it was a mass murder or something horrific like that, definitely not! In fact, any kind of murder, no. It wouldn’t bother me, though, if someone just naturally died in the house. How about you?
Thank you for the story, I found it very interesting. I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard of this man. Looking forward to subscribing to your channel and hearing more. When I visit SoCal I try to visit Palm Springs, I really enjoy the town, the shopping and food.
Yikes!!! Good grief, Steve! This is a mesmerizing story. God bless her soul. What a brutal murder. He died of “heart failure “ when he didn’t have a heart… just an evil one. He’s not in eternal grace but in that other place where he’s being punished forever. Thank you, Steve! I love that you give us stories like this❤
Sorry to tell you but it's not up to you to give someone salvation or eternal punishment ,granted I feel the same way sometimes when I hear if someone doing terrible things but I am grateful its not up to me either
Great Palm Beach -- Old Hollywood vlog! It's really a shame to have that much anger! I wonder what happened to his first two wives and if he was violent with them? You know it sometimes comes from abuse in childhood. Take care and safe travels, if ya'll are traveling! Merry Christmas again to ya'll ♥️
He was charged & convicted of manslaughter & not murder. He received good time credit for good behavior in prison. That's why he served a short sentence. Apparently, he was a landscape gardener in Palm Springs so I'm sure your grandparents were familiar with him & the case. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Steve....that's pretty sad she lost her life so young and at the hands of her husband...he must of had many issues...not being famous and popular with the ladies anymore probably.....his jail time was a joke....thanks for vlogging his story.....take care....... Deborah 🇨🇦🙏❤️🎄🎄🎄
That was an interesting little Vlog Steve, I'm on my way out the door or I would look again but I saw a bit of him on a Google search, and saw that he had a junior and that they both passed at 58 years thought that was interesting I was wondering if they passed the same thing.... by the way Merry Christmas Steve to you and yours, two of my favorite people in California
Great video Steve. This a very interesting story. I agree, he did not get nearly enough time. I never heard of this actor, Tom Neal. Merry Christmas to you, and I hope you have a nice holiday.
My grandmother lived there in summer. She also worked in nightclubs. That's how they met off the sunset strip. As for why? Baby Jase/doodah my grandmother said they were like oil and fire! Who knows? Age difference? And he's still in Palm Springs
Thank you for another interesting program. That is so sad for that poor woman. I'm pretty sure that all of his wives were victims of his violent temper.
I was aware of the love triangle between Franchot Tone, Barbara Payton, and Tom Neal, and the terrible beating that Franchot took from Neal, but I had no idea he murdered his wife. How horrible! He had serious issues!
I’ve watched a lot of his movies. I’m old. He was a good looking guy, but I don’t think he looked like Clark Gable! Sure didn’t know all that about him! I love that you are telling stories and vlogging about your home town pretty much since you grew up in Palm Springs!!
Well, yes i knew the story about Tom Neal, i told you at several moments in my life, I've lived in PS, and who knows, maybe again I go back and forth on it. One of the houses I lived in wasn't too far from there, since you know the hoods around there, that house was near Steven's and Los Robles, not too far from elvis honeymoon home, actually was in that home often in the late 90's, just thought I'd share
Wow, Interesting Steve! I’m a fan of Tom Neal’s and never heard about this . Only he turned out to be a heavy drinker and had anger issues. I remember hearing or reading about the fight with F.Tone . Been watching jungle series with Tom N. Thank you . ❤👋 🦩🐊
Good morning 🌞 Steve! Happy Holidays 🎄🎅🏽🕎 My two cents regarding justice for crimes committed. My view may be have stir hostile pushback. Celebrities do enjoy privileges in the justice system not afforded to non celebrities. The bigger than life glamour given to actors in movies, television and stage productions is undeniable; case in point with this actor. But the are other social and cultural influences to injustices too. Race, gender, social status, etc. Unfortunately we continue to see these manifestations of injustice to this day. The complexities of the social culture make it very distracting to many. These complexities foster division among people & incentivize people to stay divided. So with such cultural and social dynamics - exploitation of individuals, emerging liberties, gives causes for recalcitrant attitudes towards justice.
I seem to remember hearing that after he killed her, he either moved the body or tidied up a bit and waited until the next day before calling the police. Something like that. Tom was born into a wealthy family but became estranged with them over his determination to be an actor. He was broke for the rest of his life, being disinherited no doubt added to his frustration and anger. He was a heavy drinker and he and Barbara Payton had an equally rocky relationship. She called him "Mr. Has-nothing" since he was all but penniless.
He tried to claim she wrestled the gun away and yet he shot her BACK of the head? What a poorly thought out story. And yes, 6 years for taking someone’s life is ridiculous!
Thanks Steve..may you have an excellent Christmas..I just read on Google that every 3 years Los Angeles collects the remains of folks who are " houseless" or no family or unclaimed and they are put to rest in a mass plot..1800 this year
I wonder if the chapel of the pines is owned/ run by Koreans because the neiborhood has become part of Koreatown & Rosedale cemetery is next to it, I'm very familiar w that area , loyola high-school is across the street, and there used to be an old Radar place on the corner of loyola H.S. I think it was named Gil- fillem or something like that, but I heard that they moved to the S. F. valley sometime in the 1970s, just saying 😉
Steve. I believe that you tube page Hollywood Grave yard opened the fault and helped chapel of pines figure out who was who and what happened to alot of old movie stars. Just a thought. Love what you do. Never miss a day !
I checked the listing that arthur dark had for the vault at Chapel of the pines. (hollywood graveyard ) tom isn't listed. his ashes could have been scattered by his son. beings he was infamous, that probably happened. interesting story, steve!
I helped remodel a house in 2012 at 2883 N. Janis Road. Lovely sunrise views from up there. Your grandparents' house must be somewhere near there. So, you know what I am talking about 😊
Yes I hit send before l finished! A cat had a kitten here and after it could eat, she took off! This kitten was so special,it would sit like a little soldier and look at us like please bring me inside! He's still adjusting to the inside so we let him go in and out. Anyway his name is Clark Gable , because he would get on top of our detached garage and lay on the gable right in front so he could watch everything going on! He's a tuxedo cat and his markings are right on point ❤l
Darn, I would love to see those, but I don’t have an email for this channel or anyway to see them. Thanks for the thought, though. I really appreciate that. 😄👍
I like your content. I would offer this as my personal opinion regarding this particular topic. I do not want to hear anymore about this murderer. He is not worthy to share the same venue that you provide our favorite celebrities. 👎
Merry Christmas, Steve and Jim still got stitches in my finger didn’t know that when they take those out, they won’t numb my finger not looking forward to that
It definitely sounds like he got away with murder, or did he? He died shortly after being released from prison based on heart failure? Maybe he had a conscience after all, or was it some form of karma? What comes around goes around?
What a tragic end to that young woman's life. His sentence was way too short! Thanks for sharing the story Steve. Have a great day!
I appreciate your ability to tell a detailed story so succinctly and accurately.
Me too, well said!
Thank you, Dave 😄👍

I once read Tom Neal was the love of Barbra Payton's life. Two people's lives that was such a complete mess! Another Great Video!
You're correct! I actually got to see the bathroom she died in at her parents' San Diego home. She is interred in SD at Cypress Mausoleum.
Very interesting story. I'd like to hear more about the dark side of Palm Springs. Looking forward to your next video!
Thank you for highlighting the absolute travesty of cases where someone robs a life and doesn't pay for it with their own, in prison or by execution.
Thank you for this Steve. Tom Neal was an intetesting guy. I know him from DETOUR mostly, but he does pop up in a fair amount of films. This was fascinating.

The fact that he died shortly after getting out of prison, he may have been released due to his health
