I came up w an opal method months back look up on here "how to make nanoparticles" watch the video guy w blender its about 10yo I do it with silica cat littler grind about 2.5 cup cat litter about 1.5 cup water add food coloring gives glowing/fluorescence the amounts don't have to be exact water is to help reduce friction smoke grind this in blender 30min and up but tape foil over top like hell. After done put blender in ice bath 2-3 hours, the now opal sludge will mold in days or less if not put in alcohol or a resin. I mix in epoxy resin 60:40 ratio nano silica to resin, much more resin it won't fully harden and mix very very thoroughly. Ive done this 7-10x it makes precious opals only one batch looked any "potchy". Ive made fire opads red food coloring (3-6 bottles), australian lightning ridge black opals blue and black food dye, and precrious white opals adding no dye, at the end of the blend the cat littler is now white opal sludge. Gems are worth 40-80% the price of the natural ones people say on gem channels and on google. I also tried the manual hardening method once putting my opal sludge in IPA and water (1:3) but alcohol is usually used and the ratio doesn't matter to exactness its to prevent mold from growing. I let it sit 45 days and I got opal chunks the size of a broken clay pot but it was a test batch next time 7-9 months. You pack the opal sludge in container like cookie dough or bread dough, pour on the alcohol and water let sit for months. Now carefully pour off the liquid. Ive also made agates one time using micro silica instead of nano, i dont know the grind time so I ordered the micro silica on amazon for cosmetics I used red food coloring (epoxy resin method) they looked excatly like little red agates.
