Noooooo because you can wear latch wear in front of others!!! It’s not showing TOO MUCH around your house with other family members, staff & you can answer the door in it
Oooh fancy, t-shirt AND unders. I'm Daisy Ducking it most of the time 😂 I do love a beautiful robe & housedress tho...this is a gorgeous set! Ive got my eye on a mid century-esque seersucker robe & an ivory cotton shift, lol I should add bloomers. I just hate underpants. I know that's a terrible word but as a 70s kid hearing about "panty raids" in the 50-70s, I was so grossed out, I hate the p word lol. Also let's all be grateful that women's lib killed the p word raids. I was worried about the financial cost - I asked my mom if they reimbursed the girls or gave em back or what. She didn't know, she said that was the best part of being considered a "cripple," no one stole her underpants.
They definitely were, especially during the summer, if they could they’d bathe in the middle of the day to cool down, switch outfits often, the wealthy had a lot of rituals to follow in terms of what to where and when…plus long dresses were filthy at the bottom from being dragged outdoors…gotta change
I mean, a lot of us do too if you think about it. You start the day in some sort of pajamas, then put on a work uniform of some kind depending on your job, then you get jome and likely change into something comfortable so loungewear or pajamas. If yiu go to the gym, that may be another change of clothes in there.
There were actual pregnancy corsets, so no time off for moms to be. It's only to be expected, so's your disgusting activities aren't broadcast to sensitive souls. When even corsets couldn't hide your growing tummy, you stayed inside. Confinement until the baby came+ 👶
@@AshesAshes44...You can still see that you're pregnant when wearing a pregnancy corset. If you don't understand why a pregnant woman would want bust and back support I doubt you've ever been pregnant 😂
@AshesAshes44 yes there were pregnancy corsets when leaving the house that's like saying there are pregnancy Bras no time off... I'm 8 months pregnant and when I'm in lounge wear I do not wear a bra. Same was for women in the Victorian era. Now when I go outside for errands then I put my bra on. They put their corsets on for ball support and bust support especially during pregnancy.
I think the difference between the two makes sense. The morning one for when it is family and you can be comfortable. The evening one is also comfortable, but looks nicer in case company drops by for a visit
A character in one of my favourite novels set in that period was thought of as eccentric because she would pay calls to her neighbors dressed in a “chocolate calico”wrapper. It’s so helpful to know what that looks like ❤
@@brianaschmidt910I think Anne is just a bit after the Victorian era. However, in the Emily books, Emily talks about sanding the floor wearing one of Aunt Elizabeth's old "Mother Hubbards" and I think a Mother Hubbard might have been similar to, if not just another name for, the wrapper.
I can see that. Use the fancier tea gown in the afternoon when people are more likely to drop by, and the comfies in the morning bc they’re less likely to be seen and you use them to get your whatever tasks done in comfort.
I'm making a robe based off the same inspiration you used for the tea gown! It's going to be so snuggly and ostentatious! But now I also want to make a ton of wrappers for around the house!!!
Remember. Laundry and IRONING (Pleats, ruffles, puffy sleeves ). Why do you think they went out of style? Especially after women were housewives, mothers, and had paid jobs! Time and energy, girls.
I need this tea gown. I have been searching OBSESSIVLY for a pattern or a dupe, and have nothing to show for it 😭 I DREAMT about this dress last night, please make a pattern for it or something I'm begging you
My mom used to wear morning robe that was very classy. It wasn't like a bathrobe, much more classy. She was very sad that she was never able to find a new one in stores anymore.
I live and die by my grandmas old ankle length housecoat, but i see these and see how that extra fabric in a full skirt would be so much cozier and less drafty
I vibe with the evening lounge wear more. Especially the nightgown. It looks so beautiful. These nightgown styles need to be more popular again in my opinion. 😊❤
It’s really interesting the overlap of lounge wear and maternity wear. You can see how any of these outfits would have been both comfy clothes for around the house and been suitable for maternity wear.
I would love to own that tea gown in a lavender colour! I love all that you make and you have such great talent! I enjoy your historic and fashionable videos!😚😁
This would be really cool with interviews from elderly people too and they can say things like oh yeah, people used to do that all the time or my mom used to do that or whatever. It could be a cool added perspective 😊
I don’t mean anything negative at all by this, but it’s a bit hard to hear you when you’re speaking over a song that has words in it as well ^^; I’m autistic so I have some auditory processing issues, and I really have a tough time hearing words over other words, my brain hears them both equally, and I really can’t tune one out. I just wanted to let you know since it might not be something you were aware of. I love your content, dress history is really interesting to me!! I just want to be able to hear everything you’re saying :)
I was going to post the same thing! I kept trying to listen about the lounge wear and the background song was competing for my attention! I'm glad I'm not alone, or crazy. 😅
I usually have the same issue, I usually hate songs in videos for this reason. I too love subtitles, for me it brings what the person is saying to be louder over the song (or I watch it muted lol).
Waltito is just too adorable for his own good! I would be holding, carrying and snuggling with him far more than his dignity and massive patience could withstand. 😂🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
The second looks similar to a mumu given to me by my nana ❤ it's pastel blue and long and soft with a few pretty patterns on it, just like that one. I love lounging in it on weekends while I'm crafting and making tea!
That blue tea gown is literally one of my favourite dresses Ive ever seen. I love it every time i see it
I like that one way better than the morning loungewear. The morning one reminds me of 70's Prairie dresses 🤢
@@traceej4685yes! I had to wear those. Ugh. I hope there are no surviving photos!!
Ditto.
That's Victoria's secret back when it was still a secret. 😂
thats such a beautiful color...
so this is the victorian version of walking around in an oversized T-shirt and panties

I would not be comfortable wearing pants only on the bottom half. Also it would be too cold. Pyjama bottoms, that's the way to go. Or baggy trousers.
POV: You didn’t even know how badly you needed a tea gown until just now.
Too true
Indeed..
I need that to spill the tea in the evening too
I feel like Victorians cahnged outfits at least 3 times a day
They weren't busy making social media videos. Had to stay entertained some how lol.

Sometimes like 5 times I think but that might depend on who the person is and status. Where they were going etc lol.
If she turns around, will it say “Juicy” in rhinestones?😂
I was not ready for how perfect this comment is😂🥂.
Surely it'll be in embroidery

You just feel sexier when you look good and are comfotable.
I could wear the burgundy one all day.
i wear silk robes as my home clothes and i do feel good about it.
@@SpecialBlanketYes I wear a silk robe around my house too 😂
That tea gown is ahead of its time. Screw home use, I'd wear that to a formal event
The tea gown is giving me mage, like witches learning magic at their private academies.
This is better than most people wear to a party these days
Wrappers and tea gowns are so cute 🥺
You look like rose from titanic

Anne of Green gables or something from Jane Austen?
