As someone that didn’t get along very well with the v2 but enjoyed the Streakfly (don’t ask me why!) these could be interesting, but every time I wear the Adios Pro 3 I ask myself why should I bother with another plated shoe…they work really well for my mechanics!
Idk why heel slippage is a thing with Nike and lately their shoes haven't been to good. Saucony on the other hand have been killing it especially with the endorphin pro 3 and endorphin speed 3 both amazing shoes
their lacing system just feels so bare and tight. if you loosen the laces, you get heel slippage. its very hard to lock it down perfect so it doesn't hurt your heels.
Thanks Alex for your contribution to the sport, can you comment whether the medial collapse concerns have been addressed in the v3 relative to the heel instability widely recognised in the v2?
Interesting analysis, Alex. Now we know that for 10k better a Sky v1 or Next v1 or v2 than the new v3 (or perhaps the Edge+ that look so aggressive for short, although for me the Sky v1 is better). In the end, the Next 3 are going to have difficult opponents for 21k like the Sky+ or the Adios Pro 3. I love that the shoes feel soft and from what you say the v3 is softer, perhaps that is an incentive. Too bad I've always associated the Next with 10k.
Seems like a fully gusseted tongue would have gotten rid of at least some the heel slippage. A lost shot at some low hanging fruit. Thought the V3 was going to have a wider heel. When I put on my V2's, the first sensation is how narrow the heel is. (Not that I don't love them.) I will eventually buy the VaporFly 3, but it's not high on my list. Thanks, Alex Wonderful work, as always
Very interesting review, sounds like V3 could be the first Vaporflies I pass on. I have my original mango V1's (love them) with 150+ miles, a spare pair of pink V1's that I pick up on sale for $100 and just picked up pair of V2's for $125, so I think I'm ok for a bit. That said, I wonder if the feel of the V3's is similar to the Endo Pro 3's feel, which I also have and love?
I don’t agree soft heel is an advantage for heel strikers. As a low drop shoe, mushier back may cause dynamically negative drop which is less efficient while rolling. This design is still for mid-fore foot striker - it just assumes your heels will have minimal contact time with ground; and seems the density is low in the back so the overall center of gravity leans toward mid-fore foot.
Is it like what nike did with the alphafly 2? They tamed it. Lots preferred the aggressiveness of the v1. With the Vaporfly 3, it looks like the rocker is curved unlike the v1-v2.
If you really want to get startled, look up Alphafly V3. Some photos were made of athletes testing them and they look like zoomx cinder blocks with a sock glued ontop of it. Nike lost it.
One interesting thing here: you say that it's firmer in the heel, and softer in the forefoot. That's weird, because AFAIK, ZoomX has the same softness across all the slab of foam, and Vaporfly 1 and 2 were SOFTER in the upper part, while FIRMER in the lower part, it was obvious just by touching both foams divided by the plate. And because of the spoon shape of the Vaporfly 1/2/3, there should be more softer foam (the one closest to the feet) in the forefoot. So the only explanation I have for what you say is that Nike has changed the softer/firmer positions? Anyway, just pass the durometer, even if doing that in the outside is not the right thing to do, but for this, it can be okay.
Hi Carlos, I actually say the contrary, the heel feel softer than the forefoot. It compresses more which is due to the geometry of the shoe despite the durometer being consistent across the midsole. And yes this time the two layers are the same I would say. Hope this makes sense
@@AlexFilitti sorry, I said it wrong. I meant to say that firmer in the forefoot and softer in the heel, which doesn’t makes sense to me since in the forefoot there is way less firmer foam (due to plate placement, lower in the forefoot).
Hmm, not really what I wanted to hear. I'll still pick up a pair in the proto colourway when they drop (if I can that is). If I really don't like them, I'll take advantage of Nike's amazing returns and spend my money on something else and stick with my v2.
Interesting that you say the zoomx feels as soft as the streakfly. I have the streakfly and I love it, I feel so fast but, I’ll have to say that I stopped using it because maybe give that I use it so much on the track and at fast paces there are parts of the zoom x that seem to be falling apart, mostly on the pinky toe/forefoot area (probably how I do my steps as I run fast)
Arigato Alex for your first impression about the VF3s, sounds like Nike regresses with this model that i’d never really enjoyed…i do prefer a way more the AF and espacially the V2… my next marathon goto shoes lol… what shoes are you gonna use for Tokyo? Metaspeed sky+ ?😉🇯🇵🇫🇷🇯🇵🔥🔥 🔥💪
Oh... This doesn' t sound great for my most anticipated shoe(ever?). Less aggressive and snappy, and potentially worse upper fit(though this is individual of course) is not at all what I want. I feel like that kind of ride is what you get the Alphafly for.
Looks like almost all of Nike new running shoes missed the mark, the Invincible 3 weren't as good as the 2 and these don't seem as good as the 2. Much better options out there which is interesting as a huge Nike fann
@@Exodianotforbidden They could shove some slides on his feet and he'd still break the record. Has to be Zoomx slides of course. I wonder how this compares to the 4% FK? That shoe also had a nice squish followed by an aggressive toeoff. I much prefered the toeoff and snap to the VF v1/2, which tend to roll more with their more rockered profile.
