My maths teacher makes absolutely no sense when explaining ratio so I haven't been able to understand it for like 2 years now. Ratio is in my maths test tomorrow and I was so nervous because I didn't know what to do. This video has basically just made my life 100 times easier, thank you!

if you are confused on why he multiplied it by 4 on 7:07, let me show you how by ALGEBRA. 4:5 already shows the units of male to female. *36 is the total.* I'll be using "x" to represent the unknown. It will be "4x : 5x" 4x + 5x = 36 9x = 36 x = 36 divided by 9 x = 4 lets go back to square 1. According to the ratio of 4:5, those are the units for MALE to FEMALE. Since we found x, lets multiply them. 4x : 5x 4 x 4 = 16 (Male) 5 x 4 + = *20* (Female)

For the last problem, the ratio is 4:5, 4 males to 5 females. 4+5=9. 9 total students. The total students is 36, so 9 is not real. 36 divided by 9 is 4. Therefore, 9 times 4 equals 36. To find the total number of females with 36 students, multiply by 4. The answer is 20
