There is nobody like Kai. Reacting to Film: KAI - Mmmh (1st album), Prolouge Film - Vanilla ( 2nd album ) and Film: KAI - Rover ( 3rd album ) IS A MUST. Kai is ART. ❤🐻
What I really admire about what Kai has done in is solo career is how he has so carefully chosen the songs and the visual concepts that he wants to communicate. He was deeply involved is everything from songs chosen to outfits and dancers and how things are filmed.
There is a short film associated with each of his albums. First was FILM:KAI and then Peaches Prologue Film and then FILM:KAI Rover. They are like short visual/performance tours through the tracks/concepts of each album and they are stunning.
In the Rover MV, you spotted the fake IDs. The names are references to characters from films Catch Me If You Can and Billy Elliot (a very important film for Kai and connected to his love of dance and ballet since he was little)
The EXO members all have solo songs (if not yet solo albums) and they are all different styles and well worth listening to.
Here's a short list of my favs:
Xiumin: Brand New (from 2022)
Suho: his lastest album Grey Suit is my fav, I listen to it all the time
Lay: You really must check out his solo work like, latest major releases like Lit or Veil
Baekhyun: I am deeply partial to his solo albums and there are a LOT. Check out UN Village, Candy and Get You Alone MVs!
Chanyeol: he writes so much and I can't wait for his solo album. His latest Good Enough is so lovely and his song Nothin' gets me everytime
Chen: He recently released a Japanese album called Polaris that has been on heavy repeat for me, so amazing
D.O. Listening to his solo song That's Okay is a must and definitely check his solo albums, the latest MV is called Somebody and it's totally charming
Kai: you've seen the title tracks from his three solo albums now. Definitely worth it to see the FILMs
Sehun: he has the least solo work but On Me is his solo song from one of the EXO-SC mini albums and it's so great.

Kai's "Rover" lyrics and MV can be interpreted in two ways. One way is that the song talks about Kim JongIn (Kai is his stage name), his life and who he is as an artist and person. The other interpretation I think is meant to tell his EXO character Kai's story and continue EXO's storyline.
To understand what is happening in Kai's "Rover" MV, you have to keep in mind EXO's storyline and concept.
As a member of an SM group, for anyone who knows SM, it's no surprise that Kai is such a great singer and performer. You can't be an SM artist without having superior vocals and dance skills. All of SM's artists were first chosen for their visuals, vocals and/or dance skills, and even the rappers get hyper focused training as vocalists. That is why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. And EXO are a great example of that.
One of the reasons why "Rover" was chosen for Kai's title song is because the concept of the song and MV was designed with Kai's storyline in mind. To understand why Kai is Mr. Rover, you have to keep in mind that Kai's superpower in EXO is the ability to teleport, which is why in the "Rover" MV we see him blink in and out of scenes and at the end he disappears as he dives off the stage, etc.
The MV is literally showing how he is Mr. Rover -- a rover is someone who roams, travels, wanders all over the place. Kim JongIn was given the stage name Kai because it means opening in Chinese and he is supposed to be the one who opens the doors and travels between time and space and dimensions, etc. to connect all the EXO/SuperM members together, which is why his superpower is teleportation.
If you notice, at one point in the MV we see Kai's face is bruised up and it looks like he might have been in a fight. Because Kai can teleport and appear at any time and place he wants to, the fight in which he was injured could have happened at any time or place. it doesn't necessarily mean it took place at that exact moment in the "Rover" MV, and it may not even have anything to do with the storyline of "Rover" specifically. For all we know, he is appearing in "Rover" after traveling from another place within EXO's storyline. The fight may have happened in a different location, time or dimension, and it's even thought that EXO -- or specifically Kai -- can time travel to different times and places throughout history. It's probably another one of those scenes that is meant to create connections in EXO's storyline and reference something that has happened, or will happen in the future, in their other MVs.
In "Rover" we also see him taking on different identities. It depicts the different identities or sides of his personality -- Kai the sexy, over confident on stage personality -- powerful hip-hop dancer -- or Kim JongIn the elegant, ballet dancer, etc.
As the main dancer of EXO, Kai is literally one of the top two best dancers in Kpop. And that's not just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the the industry as a whole. (Taemin from SHINee -- who happens to be Kai's best friend since trainee days, and is a fellow member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) There is literally no one better when it comes to dance in the world of Kpop than Kai and Taemin.
Kai's love for dance started with jazz and ballet. From a young age, he began training to become a ballet dancer. So he learned form and technique first before any other style of dance. That's why I think you can see such precision in his dancing. As a child, he fell in love with dancing after seeing the Nutcracker and he told his parents that he wanted to do that. So, his whole foundation with dance began with ballet. He says, that if he hadn't been bribed by his father to audition for SM Entertainment, and if he hadn't become a Kpop star, he probably would be a professional ballarino today.
Kai became a trainee with SM when he was about 12 -- he debuted as a member of EXO when he was around 18 -- so he has been honing his skills and dedicating himself to become one of the best in the industry for years. And now, at 29, he has literally been recognized as one of the best of the best.
Also as a member of EXO, as part of their storyline, it is thought that the EXO members are supposed to be going about their tasks incognito, which means that in order to keep a low profile Kai probably needs to take on many different identities as he travels across time and space, through different points in history or to different dimensions, etc.
Therefore, every time we see Kai change his look in the MV it's probably showing that he is teleporting to that same location from a new time period or location in history on his quest to find the EXO members and stop the Red Force, etc. He keeps coming back to that same location because he needs that woman, or whomever she works for, to change his identity and to get new documents, etc. To the average person this looks like just a regular theater where plays, concerts and events take place, but there is probably something else that is going on behind the scenes. And the barbershop he keeps going to probably doubles as an undercover agency that is helping Kai in his mission to take down the Red Force. (In spy movies you often see little mom and pop-type businesses, such as barbershops, that look innocent from the outside, but it really doubles as a front for something else.)
Fun fact: If you pay attention to some of the names he chooses for his aliases in this MV, one of the names is Elliot Billy, which is pretty clearly a reference to the well known ballet movie Billy Elliot, which Kai has said influenced his love of ballet.
And of course, the red light is most likely supposed to represent something to do with the Red Force, which is the evil being or group in EXO's storyline who the EXO members are fighting against. Therefore, it is thought either, Kai is being controlled by the Red Force in those scenes, or maybe this whole MV is depicting X-EXO Kai, which is Kai's alter ego clone that has been created by the Red Force.
Also keep in mind, that in EXO's concept blue is supposed to represent EXO as a way to distinguish between EXO and X-EXO. Things that are blue are thought to symbolize EXO or show when EXO has the upper hand. Therefore, in the scenes where you see blue this could be showing the EXO version of Kai. And in the scenes where we see blue and red together, or purple colors -- blue and red mixed together make purple -- this could be showing how EXO and X-EXO, or EXO and the Red Force, are battling for control or are in conflict, etc.
Yet again, just another example of how EXO's and SM's Universe is extremely complicated and complex. The thing is, none of us really know exactly what is happening in the story, it's all just fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed or denied any of our theories and they have left it completely up to fans to figure out what is happening and to create the story. (We only hope that someday SM will release the book or produce a movie that will explain the whole story, so we will know whether any part of our theories were correct.)
"Rover" is the title track on Kai's third mini album. There are 6 songs on this album. Kai's "Rover" is actually a remix and I think the style can be considered reggaeton based, which is a music genre with reggae and Puerto Rican/Latin influences. If you want a sample of the other songs on this album check out his "Film: Kai #Rover," which, like his previous two albums, is a sample of all the songs on his Rover album. "(In his Rover film you will see other scenes where he looks like he has been in a fight, which could possibly be connected to his "Rover" storyline.)
Kai is a fashion icon and he is highly sought after by some of he biggest names and brands in fashion to be their model and brand ambassador, etc. Kai had a hand in styling this whole MV. Therefore, I'm sure that everything he wore was expertly selected from some of the top fashion brands. And the MV was specifically styled to represent his designer model status.
As you can see, he is also considered one of the sexiest Kpop idols, and he is known for his super sexy onstage personality, which is why you often see him shirtless or wearing crop tops when he is performing. However, if you really get to know him, you will see that when not on stage he is almost the complete opposite of what you see here. He is actually soft spoken, cutely innocent and pretty shy in real life.

i miss this man so so so much. he's my ultimate bias in kpop, to the extent that the day he decides to stop making music, i would stop caring about kpop. i love to see other people appreciate him for who he is as an artist, and not just "the guy with the crop tops", "the sexy guy", because he's actually so much more. he is an artist who creates art and reducing his abilities, which he works so hard for, to just him being sexy is so disrespectful. and this is without taking his shy, quiet and introverted personality off stage into account, the person he truly is, the Jongin who made me stay here for so long. i hope you enjoy his work as much as i do. i loved your reaction because i was pretty much the same myself. ❤️

ugh i miss kai soo much he is my fav soloist in kpop, his discography is honestly unmatched.
Fun fact: Peaches, and peach trees in particular, symbolize immortality in Korean culture and the modern take on traditional Korean clothing that Kai wears in his "Peaches" MV seems to symbolize that he is an immortal being that plans to continue his journey for many more years with no plans of stopping. I have also heard that images with everything to do with this MV and comeback content reference things to do with traditional Korean folktales, so Koreans, and those that know Korean culture, would understand some of the references and stories he is referring to.
I'm also fairly certain that there are also things in this video that can be connected to EXO's storyline, however, I haven't made any solid connections yet.
The title of this song and album is stylized as "Peaches^2" because this is Kai's second solo album. I guess it's SM's new style, they put the album number in the title of the album. Peaches is a mini album with 6 tracks. If you want a sample of the other songs on this album, check out his "Peaches Prologue Film." The prologue film is similar to Kai's "Film: Kai," which is a sample of all his songs on his album.

There is no doubt Kai is super talented and gorgeous… he is tied with Chen as my wrecker in EXO (Baekhyun being my bias). Kai’s Mmmmmh album is the 1st kpop album I bought. In Rover…Kai is taking on multiple identities.

To understand what is happening in Kai's "Mmmh" MV, you have to keep in mind EXO's storyline and concept.
As you are starting to discover, each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years, we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us.
Kai's EXO superpower is teleportation, so what you see throughout his "Mmmh" MV is him teleporting.
For example, why you see Kai move a fraction of a frame in the scene when his backup dancers "disappeared," is because they didn't disappear. Kai was the one that moved when he teleported from another time or place at that moment. In other words, he was a fraction of a second off on purpose to show that he was the one moving as he teleported, not the dancers. With what I know about EXO's storyline, nothing is ever random, and even the most minute of details have been designed to give clues and hints within EXO's story. So, even the subtle little details that you might overlook -- such as placing Kai in that shot a fraction of a second off -- could actually be done intentionally.
And, I think, at the very end scene, what you are seeing is SM connecting Kai's solo storyline to EXO's storyline. You see D.O.'s power of earth (dirt) which gives him super strength/force and Xiumin's power to control snow/ice/frost being used. You also see what I think is the emergence of a pyramid, which represents Kai and his superpower -- as part of EXOs storyline, all the members have a symbol that represents them. A pyramid is Kai's symbol and when you see a pyramid within EXO's storyline it represents something to do with Kai.
I also find it interesting that Xiumin returned from the military about a month before this MV was released, and D.O. just returned from the military shortly after its release, so the end scene in "Mmmh" may be SM's way of connecting the events of this MV to D.O.'s and Xiumin's future solo work as well.
If you analyse all the scenes within Kai's MV you would find connections can be made to EXO's storyline and things to do with past EXO MVs and probably even future MVs, as well as SuperM's storyline.
As you know, Kai is also a member of SuperM, the Kpop industry's first Supergroup that is made up of members from EXO, SHINee and NCT/WayV. SuperM's concept is that they are "The Avengers of Kpop," and the members are supposed to be superhero-like characters who are coming together to form an Avengers-like group to help EXO defeat the evil Red Force. And, like the majority of SM's groups, all of their storylines and concepts intertwin and connect. For example, in SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, you see Kai being chased by or being aided by drones as he tries to scale a building, in his attempt to stop the Red Force. So, I think the scene in "Mmmh," where you see him looking at the drones hovering around him, has something to do with connections between Kai's solo storyline and SuperM/EXO's MVs.
Also, Kai means opening, as in a door or gateway, so as a member of EXO, Kim JongIn (Kai) was given the stage name Kai because, as the center of the group, he is supposed to be the member who connects everyone together and that is why he was given the ability to teleport. Plus, as part of EXO's storyline, it is thought that the members are traveling between dimensions and time periods throughout history in their quest to find the Tree of Life and to fix all the evil and corruption that is thought to be caused by the Red Force. So, it is thought that what you see in Kai's MV is him traveling between dimensions and across time periods in his search. That is why you see him in so many different locations and scenes in this MV.
There is also a fan theory that the reason why we see Kai with so many different looks and styles in these scenes is because it's not always Kai that we are seeing. Another part of EXO's storyline is that some of the members have evil alter ego clones that have been created by the Red Force. (As we see introduced in EXO's "Obsession" MV.) So, some theories think that sometimes we are seeing Kai's evil X-EXO clone and other times we are seeing superhero, good EXO Kai.
And that eye we see in this MV, although I am not sure what it means yet, I think it's connected to the eye we see in other SM MVs, such as EXO Lay's solo "Namanana" MV and aespa's "Savage" MV, and maybe even the eye symbol and closeup of the dragon's eye in Lay's solo "Lit" MV. And it even looks like it could be connected to the eye we see in SHINee Key's solo "Gasoline" and "Killer" MVs. The eyes all look slightly different, but I think they are supposed to be a symbol that connects something within the larger storyline of SM's SM Culture Universe. The eye might be what the evil forces -- such as the Red Force in EXO's storyline, or the Black Mamba or whomever the new villain is in aespa's storyline -- are using to spy on everyone within SM's SM Culture Universe, which could be a metaphor for how big brother government is always watching and is in control. It also could be why we see the EXO members smashing mirrors, surveillance cameras and TVs, etc. in EXO's "Coming Over" MV. (Everything SM does is part of one giant storyline like a huge graphic novel or mystery movie series.)
All of the EXO members' first solo songs have something to do with the fact that they are members of EXO, and their MVs and songs show them using their powers. Xiumin's solo debut "Brand New" MV, shows him using his power of frost, D.O.'s MV for his solo debut song "Rose" shows him using his power of force, Baekhyun's debut album City Lights and MV "UN Village" talks about his power to control light, Suho's "Let's Love" MV shows him with his power to control water, and Kai teleports all over in his "Mmmh" MV. As the first EXO member to have a solo career, the majority of Lay's solo MVs tie into EXO's storyline as well.
Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order. So, we fans have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of everything any of the members of EXO/SuperM are involved in to try and piece it all together and figure out where each part fits within their larger storyline. And the story isn't just limited to their MVs, but it extends to everything EXO is involved in, including teaser videos, live performances, concert VCRs and even a majority of their choreography.

I just discovered Kai last year before he left for the military. I think Rover was my favorite song of 2023. Although, I think Mmmh might live rent free in my head for awhile.
