I carry a torch type lighter because bic lighters don't work well in the wind!
I do carry a bic for when the conditions are right but I also carry a ferro rod and a Zippo because fire lighting is so important! ATB Sam Adler from Vietnam

I've seen Paul Mesner using a similar one recently although his has an extendible nozzle. But yours looks very compact. I use Clipper lighters with the long nose which is only about an inch longer than a standard one, but its good for lighting alcohol burners. If I'm feeling flush I'll give that one you showed a go.
    Thanks for the video.

Yeah Soto make ones with extendable nozzles too. Thanks for watching 😁

Piezo ignitor might get damaged. Flintstone won't. If wet, just blow and rub to dry. Best to get Cricket metal deluxe (flintstone + jet flame). But Soto flame is longer. Soto body is plastic, Cricket's metal

Very interesting. Good job getting this knowledge out there. However, I can’t find this either on Amazon or the SOTO website. Can you provide a URL?

      I got it at www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/soto-micro-torch-57941-p.asp
Though guessing you don't live in the UK so there might be some extra postage costs 😐
Thanks for watching 😁 hope you manage to find one.

I always tear off the child safety tab on the Bic lighter... just because makes it much easier to use and helps if gloved.

What gas do you use in these please? I bought a couple a few years ago for a mate and I. Neither's ever worked properly, flame is intermittent and flickers, cuts out etc etc. Dealer said they'd not had any problems, thought they might not like the usual UK supermarket lighter gas?

Bull Brand mate, got from Asda. Never had any issues.

its likely not the gas that is a problem. You need to purge your torch lighters. Simply poke something in the hole, facing upwards, to let out the excess air. Fill to the max, you should be good to go.

I get the same problem with those "hard core" survivalist idiot's.
At any time I've generally got two lighters on me. Plus other bits. I've been in the Survival / Bushcraft game for an extremely long time. That means around 50 years. My Father made it his business to ensure us kids could get a fire going under wet & evil conditions from quite a young age.
I've tried out pretty much every type of fire making going, complete with a fairly thorough understanding of what each time of fire making won't do. All thing considered I will take modern over primitive first time, every time.

Wow parenting done right, kudos to your father! I think it's more the armchair expert survivalists who annoy us than actual experienced people!
Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated 😊

The problem is not "hard core", the problem is "hard headed".

@@Robert31352 Same happens in the fitness community. I wanted to get healthy an tried the gym but quickly ran out of there after my trial month. People were very competitive and judgmental over my low amount of reps or low weight training. Hard headed is absolutely correct to describe the kind of folk who can't get themselves to understand that not everyone thinks the same, not everyone has the same goals, and that just because you CAN make a fire with a bowdrill, doesn't mean that should be your #1 choice LOL

If they're really hardcore survival, they should have a spare bic lighter. 🤣🤣🤣
