You could also allow "adopt an alpaca' where people pay X amount monthly toward or for the upkeep of an alpaca, you send them pics of the alpaca they 'adopted' and then depending on the amount they have spent, there would be an option to have the fiber from that alpaca sent to them. If you allow people to have an alpaca experience at your farm, you could include feeding and watching them being sheered as a revenue stream, that way, the 'adoptors' could show pics of them feeding the alpaca, before and after photos of them on sheering day which would complement whatever object they made from the fiber.
Omg I saw your Merle Dane!!! I have a Fawn Merle and a Blue Merle. I'm about to start setting up my farm for alpacas and came across your videos!! Hope all is well😊😊😊
Oh thats so great that you have great danes! If you have an instagram tag us in a photo of them @oldreddingfarm I would love to see them! Good luck with your alpaca journey!
Very informative, I love the idea of the fiberpool, perfect for people who doesn't know how to process the fiber and doesn't know knitting etc.. I also love the agritourism you mentioned that people come and walk the alpacas that's awesome,I would love doing that and to sell the poop a fertilizer is a great idea too.. About the parties and weddings it might be too stressful for them maybe, the noise the crowd, I heard they are very shy.. The stud services and breeding can be a good investment, but you need a bunch of money cause those stud and show quality alpacas cost thousands of dollars but if you have the money that can be benefitial too.. 😊💗 I love your videos I learn so much thank you!
I want to be #1 in line to buy tickets to come feed your alpacas! Did you say alpaca beans? that is the cutest term for poop I ever did hear! "stud service" so alpaca pimp? LOL!
What I love most about the idea of alpaca farming is that it's cruelty free.. As a vegan is very important for me that they don't get killed and butchered like other poor farm animals.. They don't use Alpacas for their meat in the U. S so if i would breed and sell them I wouldn't have to worry about them getting killed. It's no cruelty in sheering them either I heard some different stories with sheering sheep. Also alpacas are gentle and get along with other pets which is a great plus too, it's a great idea. 💗
Yes a big part of why we landed on alpacas when picking a farm animal is because we knew we didn't want any animal that would be used for meat. That was really important to us as well. Sheering them is a little stressful for them but it's important to their health that it gets done so definitely not cruel!
Hah whenever the food buckets come out they know its hand feeding time! But when we filmed this video it was later in the day and we had friends out to the farm earlier in the day so they had already gotten lots of hand feeding and weren't very hungry while we were filming.
Hi!! We have alpacas and we are having trouble making them come near us. We got them at a year old but I want to be able to groom him etc. any tips? I’m new to alpaca !
Hey there! They're not really in need of grooming and typically don't love to get held or snuggled or pet the way some farm animals do. The best thing you can do for them is to spend time out with them not pressuring them to do anything . Easiest way to make contact is to offer them their regular food out of your hands and not reaching out to touch them while they're eating that food. Good luck with them !
Question are they able to be used like goats to graze/browse areas that need foliage control but area either to difficult or sensitive for mechanical mea s
This is not a common use for alpacas they're pickier eaters and prefer grass over brush of any kind. They will not clear cut a brushy area like goats might.
The local fiber mill near us purchased our blankets for $35 each which barely covered shearing. I think a better option would be to try to sell finished products. Also check a fiber pool which will usually buy your fiber by the LB I believe www.neafp.com/index.php?dispatch=pages.view&page_id=3
The answer i believe is 'no'. I read it is the mating act that prompts the female to produce an egg. But I've only been researching a few days so definitely not an expert.
I am not sure, if you were saavy enough you could do it with a small-ish number of alpacas maybe ten or so. If you were able to do things like sheering yourself. If you had a nice big set of pastures for them so they ate less hay and more grass. I think it could be done.
Hi we have a website www.oldreddingfarm.com we sell yarn, mostly sold out from last year's fiber later in the summer we will have lots more yarn from this spring's shearing which should happen in 2/3 more months.
with proper diet and care generally no. They need clean pasture and monthly shots for M-worm prevention. With those two things and a good diet of proper pellets and hay and clean water, they're easy to keep with little to no issues
I wouldn’t want my studs to come to a farm that has a cat though, then my boy llamas would all get toxoplasmosis!! Cats can pose a lot of health issues to your other lovely farm animals :(

That's a great idea! I know zoos do that with animals, we could totally do something like that. Thanks for the super great suggestion!
Technically, #NJMinsurance did with a thirty second ad!
Awesome idea!!
Alpaca rental for weddings I just pictured Napoleon Dynamite riding up to a wedding "sorry I'm late, I was out taming you this wild honeymoon alpaca"
omg I'd pay for that!
I don't think you can ride Alpacas. They don't have the bone structure that horses have, you would injury the Alpaca if you tried 😞
@@nataliewilliams3519no you definitely can’t.
Alpaca fiber and yarn sounds pretty neat. I know a bunch of things with gardening you don’t do for the money but the love and enjoyment of do it.
So true! I know for a fact we are net-loss with gardening as well but things that bring you joy bring more value than money can sometimes.

They are just so cute. They always look like the are smirking. Lol. Great video with heaps of good information. 😁
😊 thank you
This is lots of great info. I’m sending it on to a friend.
Awesome, thank you!
Great video. Should definitely catch plenty of views. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is this your critiquing it?

You had some creative ideas for your alpaca’s life 💕💕
They were on their best behavior. Great video.
They're usually on pretty good behavior. We feel very lucky.

Hah! Alpaca beans! they do look (weirdly) like coffee beans, do not confuse! hah. I hope you get to come and walk the alpacas and feed the alpacas.
Who cares about the money 😂because alpacas are just adorable 🥰 I will have some 1 day, I absolutely love them.
Gotta have more than one! Have at least three! But yes money is definitely not everything!

Thanks, you too!
Cat, your hair is so long and pretty!
Oh thank you! Its a mondo pain in the butt I am constantly thinking of chopping it all off.
@@OldReddingFarm been there done that lol
Did you prep the alpacas for posing and modeling during the video? I feel like they knew what they were supposed to do 😂
Hah whenever the food buckets come out they know its hand feeding time! But when we filmed this video it was later in the day and we had friends out to the farm earlier in the day so they had already gotten lots of hand feeding and weren't very hungry while we were filming.
Thanks this was great
Thank you for sharing you.
thanks for the tips!
Thank you for watching !
In my country theese guys sell for alot because there imported I just love them there my pets but I do sell their Osprings and there fiber

Thank you !
I dream of fluffy alpacas one day!!
They're so fluffy! You would love them!

do they give milk if yes is it good for human consumption?
they do produce milk but not for human consumption

i might've missed it but about how much can i expect to make from fiber off one alpaca when i sell it at a fiber mill? THanks!

@@OldReddingFarm wow thank you so much!
Do alpaca females get periods like other mammals do? If so, how do you manage the bleeding?
Uh, only a few species of mammals get periods. Others bleed, but it's not technically periods. Alpacas don't menstruate. Maybe they bleed?
The answer i believe is 'no'. I read it is the mating act that prompts the female to produce an egg. But I've only been researching a few days so definitely not an expert.
Interesting
Thanks!
where do you send your fiber to?
Its Called Windover Farm, located in CT. They are awesome to work with! www.windoverfarmandmill.com/
How many do you think you need to make a small living with them? Is that even possible?
I am not sure, if you were saavy enough you could do it with a small-ish number of alpacas maybe ten or so. If you were able to do things like sheering yourself. If you had a nice big set of pastures for them so they ate less hay and more grass. I think it could be done.
I don't think they mentioned meat
How much land does one need for running around
generally speaking about 5 per acre.
you missed one - making alpaca youtube videos!
haha maybe!! if you are better at it than we are :)
Do you sell alpaca wool and what is the price
Hi we have a website www.oldreddingfarm.com we sell yarn, mostly sold out from last year's fiber later in the summer we will have lots more yarn from this spring's shearing which should happen in 2/3 more months.
What about the meat
Are you in Redding Ca?
Nope Redding CT
I need some Alpacas, do you sell them. I'm from Viet Nam
we do not sell our alpacas sorry!
Where's the LGD's?
❤
💚💚💚
Thanks for watching!
You're sweet!! Loved the video and tips!
Thank you so much!!
Do they suffer health problems
with proper diet and care generally no. They need clean pasture and monthly shots for M-worm prevention. With those two things and a good diet of proper pellets and hay and clean water, they're easy to keep with little to no issues
she cute, cute!
The alpacas?
To be honest, I thought you ate them....
I think some people do, or at least can. That's just not what we do
I wouldn’t want my studs to come to a farm that has a cat though, then my boy llamas would all get toxoplasmosis!! Cats can pose a lot of health issues to your other lovely farm animals :(
never heard of that thanks for the tip!
Cats kill mice . See where I'm going . Get real .
Cant see how you can get rich from these animals
Yah getting rich is certainly not our objective.
Maycee dear, your lunch is hanging off your lip; not a good look. Otherwise, very nice camera presence😁👍
Hah I love when they have straw hanging from them I think its so extra cute!
You gotta be kidding
tell me what you mean with this?
@@OldReddingFarm These monetary sources are far too intermittent and meager to offset even the basic maintenance expenses
How many alpacas do you have?
@OldReddingFarm he has none. Hes just another miserable hater on the internet trolling
