Student loans the real DPOY. Clamped a whole generation of people.
DPOE
Defensive Player of Eternity. Lol
Still locking me up 5 years post college 😮
America is WILD. The rest of the Western world would riot and start a revolution if higher education cost that much.
More like student loans snatched the most ankles, you all bit hard lol
Student loans has HOF Intimidator, I don’t even wanna go to college cause I can’t afford it 😂
I've officiated so many of Derrick's games from 6th-12th his progression has been phenomenal! Extremely proud of the kid!
How do you feel seeing him being a champ now
@majedalrasheed3314 He's a true example of Hard work & Dedication pays off 💯💪🏽
We love Derrick White on the Celtics! Very likable and laid-back guy. Love to see how his shooting has improved this season.
Spell his name right if you love him
@@timmyd5055 Hey, thanks.
As a Lakers fan, I hate the Celtics obviously but Derrick White and Jayson Tatum are some of the most likable players in the NBA. Makes things even worse 😂
Love D-White, glad he is playing well and finally on a competitive team! Spurs for life!!!
Yes sir
Spurs competitive ?
@@famoussquad5154 do you not watch basketball? He was signed by the celtics
@@Whoop69 probs referring to when he was a spur, once a spur always a spur type thing
@@famoussquad5154 was referring to his current team the Celtics. Spurs at one point were competitive but we are rebuilding now and I’m happy that he has the chance to win a ring.
Derrick white a wholesome guy, love hearing his story
I'm kinda psyched, too. I really like the dude.
Best thing about this podcast - getting to hear people's stories.
This is actually a fascinating story for a specific reason: here's a dude who played "with a chip on his shoulder," notably out of frustration, and now he's a laid-back dude wearing a "be a good person" hat. He even went from starting on the Spurs to being sort of a sixth (if not seventh) man on the Celtics. Not a lot of people can navigate that kind of strange and turbulent trajectory so well.
He's been a starter this season
@@Lightking421 when the Cs fully healthy he prolly won’t start
He started the whole playoffs
He starts over brogdon
@@younesyassine9409 he will likely come off the bench when Rob is back though
Derrick played with my brother at CU. Great dude, teammate. Just hard work, no bs
Hope Lucas is doing well! He had some awesome progression himself as a player at CU
Soooooooooo happy D White is a Celtic. Perfect fit for the team.
Bro took humbleness to the max
I went to college with this guy when he was playing DII at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (UCCS). I had no idea he had to walk on there also. His Junior year NBA scouts started coming to our school. He dominated and had like a 50 point triple double his last game. It’s awesome to see him balling in the NBA now.
He's really really good and who knows how good he'd be if he had more of that assertiveness and aggression as a person, who knows, maybe this character is what makes him such a good team player. I remember thinking he had star potential in SA but that move to Boston was a masterstroke because he made things gel there so well, he does everything right, really interesting to hear about his journey.
He fits the team much better than smart imho
As of 12/7/22 (after watching this clip); He's officially my new favorite player in the association. I will root for this kid going forward.💯
Such A Humble And Laid Back Man
Laker fan here. This made me like him more. Really good player, humble personality. Love it. I wish you well Derrick White.
As a Celtics fan, his numbers so far this season are amazing. The jump from playing on one the best offenses has done wonders. Hes not scoring at a career rate but the FG% and 3% have shot up insanely thus far this season. His Per36 is insanely good, true shooting is amazing. Though his role is less, though hes getting less looks and isnt even a top 3 option, the amount hes contributing to winning is fantastic. He plays good defense, he can play make, he can score, hit threes and all that at a usage rate thats 0.6% above his rookie season (and lowest of his career if you count meaningful minutes and basketball) is phenomenal. Dude might not ever make 20+ million a season or be a superstar, but hes going to have a long career and is gonig to be wanted till he chooses not to play anymore (hopefully baring a major injury). Wasnt sure about him when the Celtics picked him up, was kinda confused why they kept him and got Malcolm.....but so glad to be proven wrong and couldnt be happier for the guy. Hes obviously a humble, kind hearted good person and its easy to root for guys like him.
Brad has done a wonderful job assembling this team
D WHite's advance stats are pretty insane for a guy coming off the bench most of the time on the celtics
Yes, please, more Celtics recognition.
I remember him for being on the spurs honestly
@@lahnex27 hey that's fine and well, nothing against the spurs, I just want my team getting more recognition!
Humble. And a solid player. Great story.
here after his insane game winner
I have to honestly say that I've never been a huge fan of Derrick White's game but I might pay a little more attention now. He seems like a really nice kid so I hope he does well or continues to do well I should say.
Can definitely be inconsistent offensively sometimes (he’s been lights out this year) but he’s a hell of a defensive player, ridiculously good point of attack defender.
He's the kind of guy who, while being a great defender (maybe the best rim protecting guard in the league), will always do the right thing on offense. He might miss shots, but he won't stop the ball and he won't take bad shots. I love this kind of players, that self awareness and understanding of the game.
@@SoloPerICommenti excellent point as well, sometimes people put too much worth into shooting percentages, White helped the Cs offense last year even though he was shooting terribly. Other teams knew they had to respect his shot and couldn’t sag off too much, and like you said he makes the right play every time.
From barely making the nba to biggest shot in his life 2023 game ecf god is real 🙏
Love this kids attitude. Keep these fire interviews coming
Wild. Dude went to my high school, we both were the first graduating class from Legend. Never heard his name before this interview
You and titanium went to the same hs! Same year?
OMG. Derrick, we love you bro. He's having a great season. Go Celtics!
From 5’6” to 6’4” is amazing
I guess so, I went from 5'0 at 14, to 6'0 at 20
@@NationalDex149 I guess.. you ain’t make no league lol
It’s also painful. I had almost the exact same journey, even was 6’ 148 as a HS Senior like him. Growing 4 inches after turning 18 was painful, but worth it. Wound up be 6’4” but was unfortunately never good at basketball.
That's nothing. I grew about 5 ft since starting out.
@@michaelsolanke6362 nope im too short 😂, and am not a world class player
im training to dunk tho, so thats fun
Watched him play at UCCS in college. Great story!
Same! Still got those free tshirts from the tournament he played in.
Miss him on the Spurs super happy for him!
So glad this guy plays for the Celtics. Clutch plays and crazy defense. Seems like a very down to earth person too.
For those of you who are a fan of The Dream Team, with Mr Fruit, BlueWestlo, and Rhabby V, fun fact; Rhabby V knew Derrick White from highschool!!
This is such a random comment to be on JJ's pod but that's cool I didn't know that
Never thought I would see Mr Fruit and the dream team on JJs podcast
Glad to have this interview...I knew little about him. I'm a bigger fan now.
Absolutely love this kid!!! He got thrown in a tough situation last year and was a bit of a deer in headlights... but his turnaround this year has been incredible. Playmaking, floor spacing, attacking the rim, and hitting open 3s are all things he couldn't do last year but is excelling at now.
He also felt like the odd man out last season as a new guy on a team that was already bonded and gelling.
Now he is part of the family and has bonded with the players and he's part of the future of this squad and I couldn't be more happy. We love the Buffalo 🦬
Derrick you’re a great player and you’ll be a champ for the Celtics! Love and support brother
DW is a great fit for Boston. He has been shooting the 3 ball well for them since he was traded to Boston. Thank you Coach Pop and Brad Stevens!
Boston stole him at the deadline. Just a great role player for Boston and he keeps getting better!
This version of the Celtics started the moment D White checked it.
It was instant.
To me these type of back stories more important than him talking about game plans and what's next and season games etc ...
He’s a lockdown defender. A really smart player that never forces anything and has a high iq. I think he’s the most underrated in the nba
He also is a very good dancer and RnB singer. He just won Dancing with the Stars in France.
Release the full interview, THEN release Clips
Get hyped or get out, kiddo.
It’s very annoying watching a full pod without time stamps, while you’ve already watched half the interview in clips😂
Derrick is such a beast no lie☘️☘️
You can hear how shy he is from his voice but the boy looked like a beast on the floor with the run to the finals I guess that’s what matters
Lotta respect for this guy
He’s raw
Dubs fan
D-white was amazing to watch in high school! He was great but just so much smarter than everyone else on the floor. D-white=🐐
Love the stories of these unheralded players. DW sounds like a good dude.
This is nice. I really like hearing more from good players like White who are not always in the lime light of the NBA.
Great game 6 winner DWhite GO C's!
That's gangsta to me. He honored his path
Cool guy, rooting for him
ive loved derrick white ever since he came to the Celtics, straight baller and always plays his out heart out and hustles
He also has one of the most unique hairlines in the NBA
😂🤣he does challenge his barber
I'm here after his greatest NBA game of his life... against Charlotte 2/10-23
33 points
3 rebounds
10 assists
1 steal
3 blocks
8 three pointer made
D white really just sounds like a good dude man
I always feared playing against the spurs esp d.white he is a sneaky player and always at the right place right time to make the right plays, Glad he’s on the Cs right now
I played basketball with D White in middle school and went to high school with him. Humble guy man and just all around a great dude. Proud of you bro, thanks for putting Parker Colorado on the map lol
Thanks for sharing
You and feelgood went to the same hs! Same year?
5’6 as a freshman and over here 5’6 as a 21 yr old 😂😂😂😂😂
love love love derrick. what a journey
I am a warriors fan...This is a good guy..God bless you in everything mate...
As a Celtics fan thank you spurs 🙏 d white is the man !
No mention of the growth spurt? I love a good growth spurt story.
I'm surprised Derrick White found a hat to fit his forehead
Damn I’m a fan of him now
Now he’s a champion
D.White. staying real. Staying how he was with the Spurs and now the Celts, character wise.
Spurs bet on the wrong horse with Murray instead of White. I'm so sad he's not a spur anymore but he's a beast.
He is solid from the Bench for Celtics!
He was my favorite player of all time on the spurs but it’s alright the Celtics got them a good one !!
He's proving he belong in the NBA with game 6 against Miami playoffs.
Cool to know about another guy playing in the springs. Only other player I can think of is Reggie Jackson, but it was middle and high school lol.
Okay but at 4:39, why did I think that JJ's coaster was a part of his cup lmao
Spurs fan, my favorite players in the league
White is an inspiration. Dude did what he could to make it to the NBA. Against all odds.
Wait he went to my school????
I mean I know we have shooter but DAMN
Shut out to Chancey Billups for encouraging young Derrick
I didn't know he was from here. I gotta root for this guy now.
I'm mad. He was 5'6 as a freshman 6'0 as a senior and as a grown man he's 6'4. I was 5'8 and a half as a freshman 5'11 as a sophomore and today as a grown man I'm 6'0 maybbbbe 6'1 on a good day what GIVES 😭😭🤣
Here after he got the $126m contract extension - what an inspiration!
As a bucks fan I hate the Celtics with all my heart but I fw JB and white. He’s down to earth and relatable asf
Let’s get Earl Boykins on the podcast
Shout out to Chauncey for providing this young man the inspiration he needed.
Damn the threshold on the mics is too high
He got the steph curry treatment lol
I see u got the hat on my guy 🤣🤣🤣
Him and Trae Young have the best lisp in the league
This would have been Julian Newman if he was humble
Jeremy Lin's parents paid for 4 years of Harvard. He and C J were 5´ 3¨ as freshmans.
Haven’t met a person who doesn’t like D white! Dude is a killer on the court but in person he the most humble person. He’s not quiet though 😂, always cracking jokes! He called Lively stupid after he left white open for a 3! 😂😂 Holiday said it too idk if anyone caught that! “STOOPIT!!”😂
Crazy how Derek White’s perception in the league is a “bigger point guard” when he was a 90 pound 14 year-old
“ i been watching him since kindergarten and I knew he had talents for the nba “-Lefraud
That straw going down at @2:18 🤤
This dude about to get a ring
Understanding shouldn't lead to labeling or diagnosing someone. "Do you know what imposter syndrome is?" Cause you kind of fit the description! Impostor syndrome, also known as impostor phenomenon or impostorism, is a psychological occurrence in which an individual doubts their skills, talents, or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a fraud.....Thanks Dr. Phil smh
☘️🍀🙌🏽
D. White is going to end this year as a champ.
Crush whatever is in front of you. No need for a dream.
Shows how absolutely ridiculous the NBA is. They get the best basketball players from around the world into this one league. He was 6'0" at high school senior and is 6'4" now but was considered small. 6' is above average height in soccer and 6'4" would make you huge.
I was short in high school too! Still short though.
I feel like the brim part of his hat is mad tight on bros forehead! 💀
feels more like an interview than a podcast
303 720 in the house!
D white Celtics legend
What’s impressive is how he manage to balance with that growth spurt. I’m 5”5 and kinda hatin on that growth spurt. 😂 good for him tho, well deserved
