    Every single time my family tells me we're going on a trip somewhere, the very first thing I do is assess what birds will be in that area at that time of year...I'm a little addicted, haha! I've been birding ever since I was 5 (I'm 21 now) and I've enjoyed every minute of it! Ok, maybe not getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and horse flies😂 Loved the video!

    That was Fantastic and Hilarious Bob 😊😂 Does not having a pair of Swarovski binoculars disqualify me as a birder? 😂 I still adhere to most of the other definitions. I can identify a lot of birds by their song and I do travel to specific areas to see certain species 😊 I got one more thing to say...Everybody's Heard About The Bird..Bird Bird Bird..Bird Bird..You know the rest 😂 LOVE YOUR CHANNEL 😄

    I basically never consider the difference between a "birder" and "bird watcher"..... But I often consider the difference between "birder" and "bird photographer", which is what I am. Earlier this year, I traveled by car, 7700 miles, and slept in my car, for 30 days, to do bird photography. Took 30K shots, and got 42 lifers :) So yes, I'm pretty serious about it. But for myself, I don't even consider a bird a "lifer" unless I get a shot worthy of my Flickr page. Glimpsing a bird hopping between two high treetops means zero to me. Only hearing it means nothing either. I don't want to tell you about a bird I saw, unless I can show it to you too :)

    • @Bob_Duchesne
      @Bob_Duchesne  6 місяців тому +5

      Well, I don't need to tell you how starting a UA-cam channel changed my life. It's hard enough to get a good photo of a bird. Getting a good video is awesomely frustrating most times. But fun!

    On a holiday cruise to Cabo San Lucas recently, my family went to the beach. I went to the San Jose Estuary Ecological Reserve. I’m just in the early stages of addiction though, so it was just me, my binoculars and my Merlin. Oh. And I dragged my son along too.

  • @MHarenArt

    I think I'm both. I chase birds, but usually only out of my windows. I've seen close to 30 species in my back yard. I take a look several times a day to see what's out there. I make sure my binoculars are nearby and camera is handy, already zoomed in. I journal what I see and what time of day it was seen. But I don't travel to see birds unless it's on the way to the grocery store. I'm slightly more obsessed than a casual birdwatcher, but not nearly so much as a die hard Birder.

    I knew I would like this channel before eve watching. So, does traveling from Virginia to Machias Seal Island count? I wet to photograph mating Puffins in June of 22. What about traveling to Georgia to photograph Roseate Spoonbills. I usually travel to Assateague Island the day after Thanksgiving for the bird migration. I have only been a Birder for a few years, and I have a Life List going. I found a particular web address to be extraordinarily helpful. Yes, I am a Birder. I really enjoyed the Harlequin. I have an appointment for help with Birding; it is the day after Thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing.

      It IS possible. Many are close to home and it takes very little equipment to see them. Nowadays, I do travel to see them, mostly in North America, but most of my birding happens right here at home. There are a lot of good birds hiding nearby. Just have to know where to look - and learning where to look is part of birding.

    I feel I am a cross between a birder and bird watcher. As I gotten up in years I am less interested in birding frequently. Instead my serious birding happens when I go to a certain park to find a certain bird based on its call. I was tracking Acadian flycatchers in northeast Ohio this way which satisfied the birder in me for a while.

      They want to change the names of birds that are named after people. Some of those people were pretty unsavory, and besides, naming animals after people is an archaic practice that doesn't help to describe the bird.
