    Interesting. Was not aware Weidi made an adjustable. Thanks for the info!

      I just happened upon it by chance, really. I saw it on the Razorock site when I wanted to see what adjustables they had. And then I saw it again on the Stirling site when I was checking into their razor offerings. I'm pretty sure they both have it for like $10-15 USD. If you get one, let me know what you think of it!

    Have you tried baili 179 Butterfly? The head is similar, but a little more compact, should fit better under the nose.

    Nice compoarison shave, Billy! A step up price-wise but still inexpensive (under $40 Cdn) is the Yaqi The Final Cut. Still well below the $70 you mentioned. And there are a whole raft of non-adjustables that shave well for under that $70 mark.

      Thanks, Keith! You might remember that I have that razor and did a video or two about some weeks ago. That razor is a great value too. I really like how it can be disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. While it also has the potential for uneven blade gaps due to the use of a single central spring, I think its design and manufacturing are a lot better than the "Futur-like" adjustable from QShave, MingShi, or whoever. I may do a head-to-head between the Yaqi and Baili/Weidi in the near future... I really want to see how they compare across the adjustment scale.
      As for that $70 price point (I assumed USD) that was mentioned to me on Reddit... I don't really understand it, to be honest. Some well-designed, all-stainless, fully CNC-machined razors (like the Game Changers) are available for around $55... but many folks don't care about having a premium razor that will outlive them. They just want something that will shave well for several years, especially if they're not yet fully committed to safety razors.

    I agree. I liked the RazoRock razor much better use it as my travel razor if i lose it, only out 10,00. My ming shi had uneven gaps and exposure I purchased it when they 1st came out. Tossed it in the bin because it wasn't safe to use or give away. They might be better now..

    You could put a Vostok in a drawer for 10 years, and then put that drawer on the bottom of the ocean for 10 years and it would probably still work just fine!

    • @LateGroomer
      @LateGroomer  2 роки тому +2

      LOL. Would it survive depth charges too? Probably... the Amphibia is just so ingenious: super robust, easy to manufacture, and low maintenance. "We can't do what the Swiss do, so let's take this back to first principles."

    I just wanted to say I hated my Qshave aswell. Either too aggressive or to mild and the slop and play made it a gamble to use. Always got at least 1 weeper.

    • @LateGroomer
      @LateGroomer  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, I haven't used mine in at least 6 months because of those quirks. Some people really like it, but I guess they must have gotten good ones. What I hate is that I paid a little to get a QShave rather than a MingShi because I heard the QC was a lot better. Now I don't know! Thanks for watching and commenting. Later!

    Hi Billy great battle shave. I had this Q-Shave Razor my name was Sinmarin or something like that. I gave it to my father-in-law. And yes, I agree with you, you can't always determine quality based on price. For example my worst quality shirt was a designer shirt that cost over 1000 DM. Have a great weekend 😊

      Hey Robert, could that be the SNMIRN razor? I've seen one with that name, but it used a magnet to fasten the cap to the plate. It looked very similar though. Did you ever try it?

    Personally I have a limit of US$75 for a razor and have 24 below that mark, there are exceptions to my limit: my Overlander and Leaf razors. I don't like the MingShi 2000/Qshave (Futur clone style) it's too chunky, too aggressive, too slippery and too many blade alignment issues. Have not tried the Weidi adjustable I'll put it on my wish list, the Mingshi 3000 (FatBoy look alike), Weishi adjustable and Yaqi TFC are worth considering as well, particularly the Yaqi. Chinese made razors can have QC issues, so sometimes a bit hit and miss buying from China, probably best to buy from reputable 3rd party in your country or Amazon, where there's some guarantee. For fixed head razors, RazoRock also has plenty of quality razors under US$75.👍😎🤟

      Hey Lawrie, I agree with everything you just said about the Futur-clone razors. Shaving with it is not a confidence-inspiring experience. It works, and it can be smooth, but I hate needing to check gap/alignment constantly. Of the others you mentioned, I've only tried the Yaqi... which is nice, but can have blade gap issues. I need to check out those others (Weishi and MingShi 3000)!

    Thanks for this competent, helpful review. Based on this review I got the Weidi butterfly adjustable for $15 on Amazon. You were right on the mark on all points and I love the very mild to medium adjustable range. The length of the handle and grip works very well for me. I was impressed with the solid blade clamping to the 4 rising adjusters via the closing butterfly lid. A well designed and built mechanism to keep the blade exactly as set. I have poor sense of touch and poor fine motor dexterity from MS yet I can get a decent bloodless shave with this razor just above the mildest setting. Thanks again for the help!

    That’s not play or an alignment issue. Your compressing the spring. It’s a fine shaver!

      Hi Rick, it happens whether I do it intentionally or not. If you can load a blade and adjust yours, without any extra fiddling required to achieve even blade gap and exposure, then great! You got a good one.

      Hi Mobi, this is the one I bought. It looks like the price has gone up quite a bit since I got mine. You might just search for "Vostok 160273" and see if you can get a better deal elsewhere. (Oh, I replaced the metal bracelet right away... it was a real hair puller.) Or try eBay... I just searched for "vostok watch" and found a bunch, both vintage and new.

    I've used open combs all my life, but as my skin ages (43), it simply cannot tolerate them any more. I even started getting weepers from the Fatip Grande. I switched to Weidi and my skin has been grateful ever since. I also borrowed a fully enclosed unisex Weidi TC1 from a lady, a brand new 2022 model, and in my opinion, it shaves better than the Muhle Companion at 1/5 of the price.
