I am loving all of this. Thank you Grace Slick, Paul Kantner, Mickey Thomas, and all of the other musicians for allowing me and others to view these videos. I never had the opportunity when I was younger to listen to Jefferson Starship because my family was anti-rock. I am 53 and getting to enjoy this for the first time. Keep it all up and going, please. I listen all the time now. I dream of going to see a concert, still.
this song was already a hit before i was born, the moment i started to appreciate music, (not lullaby) i was fascinated by this song, i first heard this being played by one of the local fm stations here in the Philippines during their program on a saturday, because that's the only day where the hits of the past are being played. i love it, so much.
Great song!! The dress the music and hair was with the times. Great lyrics! Grace Slick is phenomenal! Paul katner is great also!! Great old rock music!!! Keep it up. I saw them in Louisiana on my birthday in 2018. It was great to hear old music then meeting the whole band. Great down to earth people. Can't wait to see y'all again!! Come back real soon
AWESOME! Jefferson Airplane/ Jefferson Starship/ Starship was always at its most amazing when onstage, where Gracie Slick could duel with Balin/ Kantner/ Thomas. Love to see guitar hero Chaquico getting down with some metal techniques in the outro. Way underrated as a guitarist. My favorite band in the day, and still the gold standard by which I measure all bands now.
She sang White Rabbit at Woodstock....what else...who else will ever compare to her? Thanks for sharing this video of a high school song I loved without ever realizing just what the Chrome Nun meant to music, how she changed things and what she eventually meant to me!
Airplane, JS, this. NEVER saw a "good" show. These people knocked 'em outta the park no matter who was in the lineup. Nothing but stunning for 20 years.
I was there, December 1985! Odd that that I can find this video but none of Rod Stewart, for whom they opened. There was another act that night before Starship, can't recall who it was.
They came to my town last night I had front row...Grace slick wasnt there but Mickey was OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG he still has it and the girl who took her place looks like her and sings like her...LOVED IT
WOW! this is the best version of "We Built This City" I have ever heard. the vocals are okay, the synth at 4:24 was just absolutely epic and got my blood pumping, the bass guitar was pretty good, and so was Craig Chaquico's electric guitar riffs. Although We Built this City is my favorite song, the original version was not the best I must admit. When I watch the original music video the audio quality is terrible in my opinion. The only thing I love about the original music video version of the song was the strong bass guitar riffs. the original version had weak guitar and synth riffs. For those who hate this song have you ever wondered what it is actually about? what is the meaning of the song? A hater of the song usually says "oh, its about building a city of rock and roll just because they repeat it over and over again." that is not what the song is about. "Someone always playing corporation games who cares their always changing corporation names we just want to dance here someone stole the stage they call us irresponsible write us off the page." the real lesson of We Built This City is (or at least one of them) MUSIC IS NOT ABOUT MAKING MONEY. the song is a cry of rebellion against the corporatization of the music industry. " who counts the money underneath the bar? who write the wrecking ball into our guitars." when they sing "Marconi plays the mamba," they are really saying "the radio plays a dangerous snake." the snake is corporate made garbage music "slithering" out of the radio( like most of todays music except for a few good indie bands) and brainwashing those who listen to it with its poison. Mickey Thomas said himself in an interview that the only thing people took from the song was the "We Built This City" part. So if you hate this song I'm asking you not to say bad things about it. if you don't like it, then why are you listening or commenting on it? If you don't like this song listen to your favorite songs from the 60s ,70s, or 80s (I would like to join you because some of my other favorite songs are from those decades).
Some people always knocking The Way we wore our hair back then... We all did... it was cool we put time and effort into our appearances. We dressed properly we showered properly everything was neat and clean. Can't say the same today people shopping at the supermarket in pajamas looking like slobs all over the place.
Normally you need 2-3 keyboardplayers to play the synthesizers the same way like on the studio version. Gabe did his job very well here with many differend and nice sounds.
I'm tryin' to imagine the reaction of the original members of Jefferson Airplane to the idea that this is the greatest song ever. I'm thinkin' Grace Slick gets the last laugh. Yep. :-}
@@acegibson9533 This was written by MArtin Page (House of Stone And Light fame) so wont he be the guy getting publishing? Either way, I adore martin page and this song speaks to me like no other.
She had a solo career now she is an artist who sells paintings. She is 70 something. Stopped singing years ago. Look for jefferson airship for her early years.
Man seriously what in the world was going on in fashion in the 80s. These people look like there from another planet. I can't imagine looking in the mirror and thinking you actually looked good lol
This was awesome music! WHO CARES what the fashion was!! The 80's were fucking awesome!!! I am so glad that I was in high school in the mid-80's! Bands like Crue, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Jovi, GnR and Van Halen just to name a few were selling TONS of albums!!! As they should have!!! The women were amazing!!!! ...and not tattooed slutty foul-mouthed whores like now. Well, some were but they had more class. Ha! If you are younger than 35....you DO NOT GET IT! I am sure that you are are...so move along ok pal!
Hey James Collins at least they had a style and they didn't look like everybody else like today everybody looks the damn same and has no personality everybody looks like corporate sheeple puppets at least they look cool and Harden some style about them
Well, Blender apparently called it the worst song ever. It's neither the best nor the worst. I think it's a quintessential '80s song and well reflects the time period. And the lyrics by Bernie Taupin are sometimes clever and do contain a message. I interpret it as an idealistic vision that, "The value is in the music, not the business." And I agree with you that Slick is undoubtedly the smart one.
For the record, I like this song. It's the same marching genre as Todd Rundgren's 'Just One Victory'. Taupin writes ecellentmlyrics bit what about the music? Why does it sound like that ? It was written by the monster English bassist Martin Page (In the House of Stone and Light). Two years in a row, Rolling Stone readers voted this song as the worst song ever recorded.
@@ironinquisitor3656 I'm with you in that! Crazy but I was listening to this song again in my car about an hour ago. Then I read your comment. THAT is strange!
@@Quad8track Yeah honestly! Listen to that analog synth brass sound at 1:38, 2:56, and 4:23-4:48. It sounds so dope AF! I think this sounds superior to the album version of the song to be honest.
very good but that woman did not dance at all, she always stayed still just walking on stage and only made strange and very cold looks at the cameras and the public
This song is GOOD suck on it haters! Better than crappy music from today.
This song was played at my late husband's funeral. He worked on a lot of buildings were I live. CityHall, County Building, schools, banks, etc.

Are you on crack??? Airplane was great, anything with Micky Thomas is a joke,Grace is embarrassed by it!!! Your Gold Standard sucks, sorry to say!!!
I have seen them several times as Jefferson Airplane and as Starship. They gave great performances all times!!!
Grace Slick
It was an interesting time for hair... but I love this song. Brings me back

I remember thinking that as well but secretly loving it

4:23-4:48 that Rhodes Chroma synth is so dope sounding.
Always wondered which synths they used..! Thanks man

Sounds pretty good to me. Some great acts can pull it off no matter which decade or style.
Great song, great lyrics. A city should be built on rock and roll. There is
no better foundation I can think of.
That's Grace Slick. One of the originals that stayed with the band from when it was Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship and finally Starship.
go back to early 70;s better than any other time

Grace Slick looks normal and Mickey Thomas looks crazy! apparently, before he built the city,he snorted some blow.

Singing & guitar so great
Love this ending they used
