I'm always seeing cheap practice bass amps on reverb and other sites. Fenders and others.
I loved the video, however that crack concerns me for the price your asking. The bass sounded great though.
That dollar sign makes me think that somehow Gene Simmons got involved with it.
I can totally see him playing a Trans black version of this bass
Lol!
Gene $immons of KI$$? LOL
Right
Without a kiss logo. Doubtful
The mark inside the control cavity is the logo of the Forest Service Council. They are a wood products industry group that certifies wood products as being sustainably sourced.
Confirmed. I found this stamp in a 2005 Les Paul Standard Double Cut a while back and it took me into a research spiral.
The Les Paul signature body outline reminds me a lot of Eddie's Van Halen Wolfgang model
Lacquer chipping around the tuner reminds me of my SG - has 2 of those which came from a trimmed string tip digging into the finish during the de-tuning/string changes
Absolutely gorgeous bass, perfect shape and color. You are so lucky to hold and own it.
The EB-3 is cool if you want the really old-school Jack Bruce vibe and a rather glorious muddy roar, and the Thunderbird is cool because, well, Firebirds are cool. Those are the only two Gibson basses that anyone remembers, though this one is definitely somewhat cool because it has a good look.Seems to sound OK, but one can't really tell w/o hearing it through an actual bass amp.
It’s almost got that snake head headstock going on.
For future bass reviews an investment in a DI box or a Sans Amp pedal would help a lot (many bassists just use those to an XLR out into the PA system at gigs (even Geddy Lee of Rush started doing that. To keep the stage looking even without amps behind him but Alex Lifeson’s amps on his side, Geddy put in all kinds of funny things like big clothes dryers (with free t-shirts for the crowd in them), a big fridge, or rotisserie chicken cookers.
The Rush guys have a wonderful sense of humor. That was funny with the dryers and such.
This uses the same kind of controls as my Epiphone Thunderbird, no toggle switch, just the three dials like this one. I love that blue
Honestly, this is a gorgeous piece
On the very pretty 'Dollar Bass', there was scarlet red writing like the "MM" but in the bridge pickup cavity, maybe "8Lot" or "SLot".
BLD+
It's also in the model no. on the brochure.
Hey Trogly, could you share which scratch remover you use again? I remember you sharing it more recently but I can’t remember which video it was from and therefore can’t find it!
The bridge on that bass looks nice!
13:08 little mike Gordon type jam..Cactus style 🌵
Woot woot Trogly's guitars 🎸 🙌
So glad you played the appropriate song for the playing demo.
there is something written in red in the bridge pickup cavity
I feel like you can see the extra layer at 2:21 just as you're saying that you don't see the extra layer. I think it may be painted over though. It's still blue.
All time favorite Gibson case. Love the white interiors. Almost bought a Midtown once just because I liked the case so much.
I had a red Midtown for a hot minute, but wasn't crazy about it. Built well, tho.
I bought a Gibson flying V, and the case had the white interior, and it had a vanilla sent
i love those les paul signatures, by far my #1 dream guitar, wish more companies made low impedance pickups, thats what i want but nobody makes them anymore, and I'll never be able to afford a vintage low imp guitar
nice bass! .....those pickups have a very similar construction as the gibson tony iommie signature pickups that I had.
Wow, Trog! This is a neat diversion from the norm. I started on bass (more years ago than I care to mention) and I never found a Gibson or Fender bass that I thought sounded, felt, or even "looked" good. This is the first 4 string from one of the 2 powerhouses that I have ever actually liked the look and sound. Despite the fact that you have less experience playing bass, I think you did a good job giving us a feel for the instrument. I will make sure to try one out when/if I ever see one!
Now I’m curious what brand of basses you like.
@@myoptik3x103 Fodera, Music Man, Ibanez, Fernandes, Warwick, Ken Smith, Carvin, Monarch, Washburn, Peavy, and Spector all have models I have played and enjoyed.
There something written in the second pick up cavity also.
I have a Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro and I bet those are the same humbuckers that are in mine. I’m very happy with those pickups.
I own one in the natural finish. Great bass!
Great to see a bass on the show! Nice playing too. Money! I own an cherry SG Bass from ‘07. The store one of the DG supremes with the red/yellow maple top but it was just too fancy for me. I really love my SG bass tho. Perfect except for the neck dive. But then no guitar is ever perfect is it?
I have 2 Gibson Les Paul's. One from the 90's and one from early 2000's. In search of that Triumph bass for my collection
Love that bass!!
Very nice. I would love one if they came in a green 5 string...
Green would be a cool new color for a reissue of the Money bass haha
I would love to give one of these a try, even though I normally don’t care for Gibson basses. I know your bass videos don’t normally get as many views as their six string brethren, so it was very cash money of you to bring us this one.
I think CME had a re- release of these over the summer but I may be wrong.
I wish Gibson would re-release the single cut Les Paul on bass format 34 and 30.5 scale length. Trogly, use a 3” strap with a sticky back to help a little with neck dive especially on a full scale bass with a smaller body
Cool bass even though I like the Fender Precision basses better
When were these made? It's a beautiful instrument. Gibson never kee4ps their bass models on the market for very long, but they have an overwhelming types of Les Pau's in their catalog.
That "Compliance checkmark" is the FSC, or Forest Stewardship Council. It means that the wood was sustainably sourced :)
I think Gibson would make a Killing if they did a guitar of the week series again....
Oh finally we have seen the money bass. What a beautiful beast.
Absolutely stunning and sweet to me!
Next basses I want to get more information Gibson ES LP 2015 bass
This bass looks great, also a more modern bridge by Gibson
With a $50,000 guitar when aren’t they about the money
Hey, @7:00 one micro-drop of nailcoat same colour can fix these chips, results are amazing, dude😉
That bass double cut shape in guitar would be interesting. its different. doesn't look like the DC Les Paul or Epiphone Wilshere.
I’d be interested in buying this from you Trog!

Evening all!! That blue is beautiful!!
Evening James agreed that blue is gorgeous
Sir you have to return it and find and Buy the Blond Bass to see the Three different Wood. Thanks for playing the Bass.
Jack Casady has his own signature Epiphone bass. Looks to be a pretty cool bass.
Those are super nice! Neck dives, but a good bass and well built. Last time I saw Hot Tuna Jack had the dark blue metallic one, which is gorgeous IMO.
Pete Turner of Elbow plays one in their single Leaders Of The Free World. Good song
There are definitely markings under the pickup in the bridge position There's an 8 or a B, then something maybe a 1 or an I, an O or 0 and then a T or a + symbol. Or at least that's what my brain sees.
That was a FSC stamp, certified wood
I'm a 5-string bass player because the low "B" string makes a difference in sound, I like that feeling on the bass. I have 2 4-strings and I might give up one?
As I expected! You play money by Pink Floyd 😌 nice👌
Hahah. I love it.. "firstfretnekdep" allways make me smile 😃 greetings from Skandinavia Denmark 🇩🇰 skjold ungerne....
Regarding what describe as a "compliance checkmark" in the control cavity, it looks like the "FSC" mark. Look that up. If it is from the "Forest Stewardship Council", that means the wood is from a sustainable source.
it would be so cool if you did a Les Claypool Carl Thompson bass….
Carl Thompson guitars are awesome, too!
General question, is there a way of knowing what the spec I.E colour of a guitar should be when we’re talking vintagish. If you haven’t got the ability to check the guitar in person because of distance, how can you verify the colour of the guitar is real and not refinished?
The stamp in the cavity is FSC.
I missed the metric values 😬
Check out a Warwick $$ Bass...read Double Buck Bass...maybe an ode to that? Double Buck or $$ meaning Double Humbuckers.
Not surprising that it’s neck-heavy. There’s a reason Fenders have that long top horn!
Z is for late.
Good evening Sgt.
T is for tardy, late work night!
Given the borderline snakehead headstock, maybe it’s a play on the Melodymaker?
There was definitely something written in the bridge pickup cavity.
Hamer made a Bass that looked just like that in the 80s. "Play Authentic"
Owned and played a natural one for about 10 years. It's a nice bass and quite comfortable once you get used to it. However the sound is not as universally applicable as of a standard FSO. A rock machine for sure though. At a certain point my sound preferences have significantly changed so I've moved on.
Thank you for showing the money 💲
Dude, bring the knowledge…you do love your blue too.
love the bass videos but why no fender??
But for the fact that this model extends as far back as when Jefferson Airplane were originally together, I would think Gibson ripped this design from Ibanez. It looks almost identical to many of their basses. In any event, the Les Paul model it resembles is the double cut. What I failed to notice is if this model is chambered in the same fashion as the earlier Signature model that Jack played, even if there's no f-hole.
Permanent haze all in my eyes
I love how he played “money” by pink floyd on the money bass 😂
Wow, that is the first Gibson I've seen with what looks likely to be a double action truss rod.. very interesting!
The Les Paul GT had one like this too. Something happened to that segment in this video when I talked about it during editing
Bridge 50% neck 75% sounds good
I wish the Thunderbirds would go back to their original pickups.
I'll take it
As a bass player I'm thrilled you did this review! I just hope you didn't curse the market now...i don't need them to be any more expensive 😂
Beautiful color. Love the bass. Sounded better with the treble rolled off. I hate to say it but I personally can't stand the "Money" truss rod cover. I would definitely have to replace that. A little too tacky for my taste.
How could anyone love Gibson this much in 2023?
From what I see every day, people with deep pockets.
Now play Shy boy or Addicted to that rush please
Jack Casady is more known for Hot Tuna these days.
Arm rest!
- Bob Taylor
Not a big bass enthusiast but that sounds pretty darn good. P.S. had no idea Trogly could rock out on a 4 string. 👍
✌️
Peace Peace Hector.
👍
Greetings Andy.
@@sgt.grinch3299 Evening Sgt
I had the exact same hazing on my 92 SG in the very same spot. It was caused by my right guard deodorant. it made me feel sad when it happened.
Sir check this 1987 Gibson 20/20 electric bass guitar
Its not actually a dollar sign. It only has one vertical line. I can't be the only one to have noticed.
Trogly. I have a 78 custom exactly like the one from last night's show that shares the last 3 digits. I don't understand
that's just a production number for the particular day it was stamped. It is more exciting when the first 5 match as then they'd be made on the same day
@@Trog the one I have was made on the 240th day of 78. Thanks for responding
I didn't know Gene Simmons had a signature Gibson bass

You just won the more than fabulous Wallmart award for the very first comment you are absolutely amazing 🍪 🍪 🍪
I thought it looked oddly familiar and then the natural finish picture made it clear, kinda looks like a Wal body…
Not wild about the colors for a guitar. Not wild about just the top having color.
It looks like an EVH Wolfgang
Let's all chip in and buy Trog a HX stomp just for bass demos...lol
Sounds pretty good DI though \\m//
This would be better as a short scale bass. Based on my experience, I bet this thing has bad neck dive.
My ONLY complaint about the Jack Casady basses is the dive. A 3" wide strap helps a bit..
Good evening Troglodytes
🥃
trogly finds money bass;
plugs in ,plays :
money🎉! 😅
Gibson, Gibson Tobias, Gibson Stienburger are not known for building decent basses that hold any value in the used Bass Market.
Oh yeah, many Gibson Basses do not play very well and they don't sound very good either.
The main reason I've never sold my SG bass. It's a sweet little bass, but never would fetch more than I paid hardly, which was only like $750 used about 10 years ago, but in pristine shape. I also had the one they did in a flame maple body/mahogany neck, satin finish like they did the Firebird with flame wings. Had one of those, too. They did it in zebrawood, as well. Circa 2006ish. I should've kept those. All a reasonable price at the time.
Hey Trogly, Any Bass player wants to hear the Barney Miller Theme Song..so you need to learn it for the next bass you show us...LOL
@Trogs... small nitpick. It's less of a "cutaway" and more of a "bevel" or "relief"... otherwise, carry on!
I wish Gibson put more work into their bass line up :(
Yeah, this should've been a short scale
