    Kane needs time to heal properly if he receives surgery and goes on LTIR. Maybe till the new year or longer. A healthy Evander Kane is a very important piece of the puzzle for the Oilers in the 2025 playoffs.
    Kane on LTIR gives Oilers some time.
    I think the Oilers have to do everything possible to match both Broberg and Holloway with their offer sheets! Broberg has been treated poorly by Holland/Jackson over the last few years. He can't be blamed for signing a life changing contract . Holloway has been going up and down like a yo you between the Oilers and the Condors for a while and sees an excellent contract opportunity from the Blues. Both these young players are pretty tight with each other as team mates and friends from Bakersfield and the Oilers. The Oiler locker room will be totally focussed on winning the Stanley Cup and will not harass these guys in any way if Oilers match . They're all pros.
    Most importantly regarding Broberg ,how do you let a 22 year old,6'4 ,fast skating , talented ,mobile D Man( rare NHL commodity) with a great stick get poached after developing him for 4-5 years or so? The Oilers definitely can't let Broberg go this year . If they want to trade Broberg in Aug./Sept. 2025 then their return will be much better than a 2nd round pick.
    My guess is he ends up as a top 4 D Man this year and he has potential to be a top 2 in the future. Remember Paul Coffee is his direct coach.
    This mess has been caused by Jeff Jackson's( and Holland's but he's gone) ruthless arrogance/poor management skills of the two best young prospects in the Oilers system. If Jackson loses 1 or both of these players, it's squarely on Jackson.

    There is no loyalty nor should there be at this stage in their careers. Tampa just dumped Stamkos. That is like Sakic or Yzerman getting dumped. Oil cant screw players over again and again and expect them to be loyal. That is laughable

    you are right Savard would be a great addition, but the Habs will hold out till the tradedeadline, retain 1/2 the salary and get a number one pick, which Edmonton doesn’t have next yr . Kane alone on ltir is not enough unless you are going to play with minimum roster. Someone has to go to keep both.

    If the Oilers match the offer sheet, the player can not be traded for 1 year.

    Great skater and defends well.

    Oilers put themselves in this spot , why sign bums like skinner before signing your young guys? Its about time someone hit a team with offer sheets. Ottawa should of got hit last year , and detroits bin treding on thin ice and am surprised someone from there hasnt got hit with an offer sheet even though they do have cap space but not really enough for who they have to sign

    • @stevestreet4402
      @stevestreet4402 2 місяці тому

      The problem with offer sheets is that the only way to do it effectively is to make a ridiculous over pay offer. Aho was offered a reasonable offer for his value and so it was easy to match, Kotkinemi was given a way too high 6.1 million dollar offer and there was no way any sane GM would match that for a kid who at that point had 23 career goals. How did that work out for Carolina? Stuck between a rock and a bad player, don't give him an extension and yourfan base and bosses question why you offer sheeted him in the first place or give him an extension based on the fact you were willing to give him 6 million a year. His agent didn't even need to work on the extension and now Carolina has 7 more years of a 5 million dollar 4th line center. Neither of these offers is unmatchable, go high and lose three picks including a first ( they have to be your picks not another teams as well), go affordable and only lose a 2nd or 3rd round pick but it's easy to match those offers. Offer sheets are a waste of time and should be gone in the next CBA, but the union will never give it up.

      Skinner is a bum? Look at his stats. He played on 2 bad teams who didn’t make the playoffs while he played with them. He still managed to net 357 goals and 313 assists in 1006 games with no cup contenders. 24 goals with the buffalo failures last season. Not bad at all

    My opinion is keep DH. Take the 2nd for PB. Afterall mid season last year thats about all the Oilerswould have gotten. Trade CC. Who along with EK ltir money gives up to 6 mil to put towards a proper RH defence, and still some cap relief if a 22 man roster was run.

      What makes you so sure they would have signed anything earlier, knowing this could happen and up their paycheck by 100% -400%? If I'm either of them, I wouldn't have signed early either unless offered a contract that is far past what the Oilers could make anyway. Maybe they just have good agents.

    Not an oiler fan but your offseason besides this has made you so much better.
    Given that you do not have a 1st or 2nd in 2025 plus drai and Bouchard contracts coming due, it seems like the best chance for edm to push for a cup is to take the futures from stl.
    Broberg and Halloway would suck to lose, but they played a combined 37 nhl games last year and neither projects to have top pairing or elite production. From a winning right now perspective, you’ll probably have better odds with other skaters whereas stl is in a youth movement, can afford to develop.

      Not at all ..arvidson hasnt done anything in 5yrs ...foegle was their best penalty killer forward and was huge in their insanely dominat penalty kill in the playoffs ...what else have they done ? Oh yeah skinner , a buyout from buffalo , sure the guy will score 20 goals but he will score them all inside of 8games and will be invisible the other 74 games and terrible in his own end

    @biffstrong1079 2 місяці тому

    I like Broberg. I think he becomes a good puck moving defender. Holloway I am less sanguine about. He looks more like a third fourth line winger so less valuable. But they are both young talented first round oiler draft picks that they should hate to lose.
    They don't have enough cap space for both of these guys. That's why it is so fun.
    Ooo I'd trade Savard for Broberg in a flash. Give him two years to bloom in Montreal.
    Yeah you are not getting Larsson.
    David Savard will be hurt, maybe when you most need him. He has played 54,62,62 and 60 games in the last four years. Oilers in their cap situation cant afford a guy who misses a quarter of the season on STIR.

  • @charleskletter8974
    @charleskletter8974 2 місяці тому

    These moves are separate from HOLLOWAY AND BROBERG. They just traded CODY CECI .
    Oilers trade Cody Ceci and a 3rd rd pick in 2025 to San Jose. Return is 24-year-old, right shot Dman Ty Emberson (3rd rd pick in '18).
    Room now to retain Broberg. Suspect Holloway a Blue, with Podkolzin addition. Although I doubt they would let HOLLOWAY GO. He contributed a lot to the Stanley Cup run …but if he goes to the blues. He’ll be great for them. It’s a loss for us-thank the former GM
