1:01 this shot is so unsettling and creepy as hell. The way that dog is just standing still in the middle. Excellent shot. Feels like something is off with that dog.

@@gamerg7204 nah the Rottweiler in the old version looked like he was there to snatch crumbs off the floor. The way this one isn't even hiding but sitting there unnoticed was done better.
I fully agree. This is not a diluted weak-@ss CGI ridden remake like the Thing. This remake is way more sinister and dark than the original in allmost all respects.

Really? The Rottweiler freaks me out more cause they are an ancient breed. They were the companions of the Roman infantry. They went into battle with their handlers many times. Don't get me wrong I have met some very sweet Rottweilers while I was doing rescue work. It's all in how they are raised

I found the first one scarier. Especially with the flashing on its eyes and the chilling background music.
0:58 - 1:03 the black German Shepherd is beautiful and looks so badass just sitting there in the distance
Where this scene definitely prevails over the original is the cinematography. Absolutely beautifully shot.
Where it fails is the impact. As much as you kinda want the audience to take in the impact of the horror that happens, that’s kinda what made the original so much scarier. There’s no pause or silence after she jumps in the original. It all happens like a chaotic domino effect where she hangs and breaks the window and immediate screaming and terror ensues. It felt real and raw and made it so much more uncomfortable.
The lil breather they give the audience here just robs from the horror.
Everyone seemed very silent in the original after the chaos. I think it's like they did a little switcharoo
so honestly I looked back at this after the last reply and really I think I mostly just love the clip of the hound. It’s just kind of beautiful and so perfectly framed and colored.
The original definitely did better with anxiety-driven close-ups and wide shots. Felt way more natural in that one. But I’ll still give kudos to the cinematographer here for the lovely focusing, that beautiful 180 pan towards the hound, and the angle on the hung nanny as she hits the wall. They still manage to be effective regardless.
I think the true criminals in this scene were the editors. The cuts are just… god-awful.

Even though overall i like the original 1976 film better i think this scene is creepier and scarier than the originals. The way the nanny just turned round and looked over at the dog even though it was a good distance away from her it was like a evil presence was calling her and the creepy music fitted perfect with it.
i like that you can hear very subtle whispering too, not too much to make it cheesy but just enough to be effective
The only thing wrong is she jumps too quickly, in the original there's about 30sec from when she sees the dog to calling Damien

For a remake of a classic scene, this is insanely good
When you watch this scene, It shows you the power of a great screenplay and great writing. Although shocking, it's great film making... Great job.

One thing about me I always try to watch the remake of a movie to see the original later. I always save the best for last but I seen the original of this that was great this one is good as the first film but just redone.

Well, that's an interesting birthday party. Damien must be a very gifted and special child. What a wonderful and interesting movie. I'll have to watch the entire collection from the begin to the end. Of Damien's Amazing Life. Wow; the actors and actresses must be very talented. Much love to the people who made this...
The movie was remade in the Tamil language titled Jenma Natchithiram. I’ve seen all 3 versions (1976, 2006, and the Tamil version). All three were great because the story itself is fantastic. The plot will hold the movie even if there are direction/acting flaws. The power of good writing.
I prefer the original over this. I don't like that they show her stepping out. In the original, you hear call out Damien before you actually see her standing on the ledge. I feel it was done creepier in the original. This kinda falls flat.

The original scene is way more scary. The way that she delivers the line "its all for you damien" is executed way better in the 1976 film

The only things wrong with this scene is the pacing, in the original there is about 30 sec in between the nanny seeing the dog and calling out Damien on the roof which (IMO) makes it more unsettling. Also, the drop is too long

This 2006 remake was sh*t. So a mad face and a bowl-cut make you evil? NOPE! They had no chance with this movie. The original trilogy was the best. The Final Conflict had issues, but the first two movies were great and untouchable.
