  • Removing window stickers seems easy enough. Yet I have so many people and customers ask how to actually remove the various stickers from your car windows. Darren shows you a straight forward approach and talks about how he manages risk that is part of any equation.

You can remove those stickers and adhesives even easier. Premium Tip: simply spray some window cleaner on the sticker and then scrape it off with the razor blade. If there is any adhesive residue left, spray some window cleaner on it again and wait a few secs, then scrape it off with the razor blade. In most cases there´s no need for smearing the goo all over the glass with adhesive remover etc. You can use some IPA as a final wipe down if you want.

As Darren says in MANY of his videos. A detailer in most cases is a problem solver, troubleshooting ways to solve a problem. I see so many different ways in the comments to do it, I too have a different way... The fact is there is no best way, you are all right, and move on. This is this man's channel and he just shows one of his ways to do it to all the geniuses in the comments. Show me your way on your channel and I'll watch it too.

Thank you! This really helped me remove stickers from my new car. Over-regulation, you bet!

That Sirius sticker was not tamper resistant. It was only designed to be resistant to regular cleaning wipes. A tamper resistant sticker is sliced into multiple segments, which even might use different strength adhesives to attach to the surface. So, whenever you try to remove the sticker, it will tear and break into pieces, because of that, which even if you succeed at removing separately, won't be able to put together into a whole again.

So what do you use to remove the left over sticky stuff from a new car's window sticker that has window tint? I wouldn't want to use a razor blade because it'll scratch the window tint......

Sometimes I can get lucky pressing some of the adhesive from the removed portion back against what didn’t release and sort of pluck it of in bits. It may take some dabble or rolling but if that works I’ve avoided the liquid mess. I’ve used duct tape as a means of grabbing stubborn bits as well. Just thought I’d mention it if it wasn’t obvious to everyone. Awesome video as always 🤘🏼

We spray gm or general motors glass cleaner onto the sticker, then use a smaller razor blade and slowly scrape the sticker. Once the sticker comes up in a corner all you need to do is pull up. If there is any glue left behind, spray glass cleaner on the glue residue and use a clean terry cloth to finish the window cleaning. We use this method at the detail shop.

It has never taken me 8:13 to remove all the stickers from one window of any vehicle including the rear viwindow of an SUV, and I could illustrate the process with a list of what I used and when with popups, no speaking. I've never scratched a window doing this, because I don''t use tools harder than glass. Doing so is totally unnecessary.
All stickers, as opposed to silkscreened epoxy or etched labels, are removable.
    1. There are plastic "razor blade" scrapers. They are a last resort with old fashioned gelatin adhesive decalcomamias that are decades old and dried in place because the printed layer has no internal strength and there is no backing.
    2. Any sticker with a clear plastic backing can be peeled off.
    3. An orange oil product will soften the adhesives of stickers. Water based products generally make things worse.
    4. Stickers remove easier when warm and pulled away slowly. Applying a small amount of solvent between sticker and glass will soften old adhesive and accelerate removal.
    5. Dollar store nail polish remover wipes work very well for cleaning up adhesive residue.
    6. Final cleanup can be done with a magic eraser (phenolic resin sponge)

Darren, I have a question for you. I have a 2017 Fusion I just purchased and there was a fine scratch about 2” on the headlight lense. I used a Meguiars Plastic polish by hand and eventually it came out. I later looked at the lense and there appears to be a coating (barely seen by shining a flashlight close up). Will it be ok or will I start having oxidation issues with it? Thanks in advance.

Seems like using such a large scraper increases your risk of scratching the glass. But hey it works for you and that's what counts

I can't believe nobody uses plastic razor blades. All the benefits of a razor blade and non of the risks. Look on Amazon.

I ended up buying plastic razor blades after reading this comment. They worked perfectly. I slipped and without the plastic razor blades I would have seriously messed up my brand new car. Thank you for this comment it saved my ass, literally.

You should never use a razor blade on a car window, you can scratch the glass. The safest way to remove a sticker is to buy a solvent made specifically for sticker removal

Noooooo! Use a hair dryer to heat the stickers and then easily peel them off. Then remove any remaining adhesive with "Goo Gone." Done. NO damage or scraping needed.

Why you using such a big razor blade why not just use a little tiny one in your hand. Just another angle of risk management not to use a tool that 3x or more the length of the sticker being removed. I liked the idea about using the tape on the door however.
