    Whilst I would love to see the tournament played in NZ. But I would like to see it minnow nations as well with South Africa or the US. New Zealand is the safe decision. But South Africa and the US both have merit as well despite barriers and I personally would want it to be in one of those two nations (maybe Kenya hosts 1 or 2 games if it’s in South Africa as the game is in a good position there as well), it’s ambitious but I would love to see the world cup be played outside of Oceania and Europe

    If the United States was to hold it you could possibly just have it in the city of Los Angeles with round robin matches in the LA Colosseum & the Rose Bowl 100,000 seats and then quarters, Semi's & finals in sofi stadium in fact take that back just hold the entire tournament in that sofi stadium

    • @TheLeaguie

      I know when the NRL wanted to take the season openers to America, they were warned away from LA because there's simply too much going on there. There were fears they wouldn't be able to make an impression there. The RLWC would be a different time of year though, so I do like that idea.

    Rugby League needs to crack the South African market

  • @Jimbo-wx9pu
    @Jimbo-wx9pu 2 місяці тому

    It’s a real shame the French bid fell through for 2025 as I feel that would’ve been a great tournament.
    I think NZ would be best and capitalise on the Wahs recent success and talks of the Kea wanting to join.
    USA would be fantastic from a market point of view however the NFL fields may be a little small so I think, outside of the odd larger field stadiums which have already been used, MLS stadiums would be good for some areas.
    PNG is an interesting one but the stadium situation is a massive issue. Maybe since the hunters bid appears to have fallen through this would be Australias bid to create closer ties with PNG through League by funding the development of newer bigger stadiums based on what Albo was willing to give them or maybe China swoop in and do what they have done in Africa for years and offer to build the stadiums and roads for them. That’s the only way PNG could ever conceivably host a stand alone WC.
    The African bids are interesting and we’ve seen Kenya come on leaps and bounds recently after union and sevens success and even hosting a France tour last year. If they did a bit of a Jamaica tactic and get as many diaspora players in to bolster the squad then then I could see them qualifying (if we went back to the old system) but hosting as you said would be too much for the infrastructure currently. SA’s big issue is union. Would the crowds turn up? I think the infrastructure is there but the interest and on field performances aren’t currently for SA and they’d need to improve on those areas.

      You can't compare Qatar 2022 with a domestic RLWC. Secondly - it would have occured at a completely different timeslot than a world cup hosted on american soil.

    NZ with some Pacific islands and PNG hosting games would be a safe bet.
    South Africa with some games elsewhere in Africa could work - NRL would need to play games in SA to break ground in advance of it.
    USA - cricket has managed to host games there even when there weren't any proper facilities, so it should be doable. Use MLS venues. I don't know the details of why it failed before - probably over ambitious and middlemen promising too much. Get NRL and RFL to organise it directly and don't try to go big with NFL stadiums.
