  • Buddhism and The Five Spiritual Faculties.
Spiritual progress depends on the emergence of five cardinal virtues - faith, vigor, mindfulness, concentration and wisdom. The conduct of the ordinary worldling is governed by his sense-based instincts and impulses. As we progress, new spiritual forces gradually take over, until in the end the five cardinal virtues dominate and shape everything we do feel and think. These virtues are called, in Sanskrit and Pali, indriya, variously translated by faculties, controlling faculties, or spiritual faculties. The same five virtues are called powers (bala) if emphasis is on the fact that they are "unshakable by their opposites."

Progress…it’s hard not to interpret and eventually judge. What a lesson.

I don't know, I like the term "ordinary wording," however, I feel like it may come across as judgemental. 0:34
One of your frames was rotated. I know how fustrating technology can be. I experienced that self yesterday. I didn't catch which frame. 5:24
I take sanctuary in my home. It is where I can safely recharge. Disengage from noise, distractions, and others' energy. 8:06
    Beautifully written.11:01
I hope one day I too can recall such details. However, I know that it's like opening a Pandora's box. Suffering and sadness etc will be a theme. One must be very strong and syeady when confronting such truths. 13:07
Life is worth living. There's risk in everything in life. It's how you choose to take those risks that matter. Some of the greatest things tend to be the scariest. 15:55
Ignorance sounds better. I like to tell my daughter it's the nice way of saying "uneducated" means the same thing. "Stupid"sounds harsh. Even though this is completely true. 16:35
"Not all heors wear capes." And this is very true. There will come a point where you feel like you've done all that you can. Helped all those that have come your way. And eventually, you'll get tired. Like a great racehorse that retires. 21:33
I find that closing my eyes helps with sense stimulation. The brain takes a lot of information from the visual system. I find it easy to float away from the distractions, if I do that. 30:25
That's funny, I just had a conversation with my daughter today reminding her that I'm not a "wishing-well, complaint box, suggestion box, fairy godmother, magic genie, santa claus, or a punching bag." Often times, I find that children can't help but say whatever comes to their mind. And I must remind her to always think before speaking.
If you laughed, after reading thT last statement, just know I was laughing with you. 31:13
I don't think it's necessary to sit in order to concentrate. I mostly concentrate when cleaning, doing something, walking, etc. I rarely sit in the lotus position. 44:03
We can't know where the path will take us but rather have faith that this is the right path, as only one has fully achieved the unachievable. Have faith that Lord Buddha's words were in fact true and see for yourself, if it works.❤ 50:25
