This show had me laughing from beginning to end when I saw it...soo beyond hilarious! Douglas Hodge and his facial expressions were spot on...well deserved Tony.
I had the good fortune to see this show. I loved every minute and so did my 15 year old grand-daughter and my husband. I have seen this show originally about 30 years ago with Peter Marshall and I was impressed then too. I have seen tons of musicals and this is one of my favorites.
WOW! I Love Douglas Hodge, he brings chrisma, style and flair! I love the cast and I love this LaCage more than the previous one with Robert Goulet.....George Hearn was amazing but toooo serious, Douglas Hodge brings more flair! I really enjoyde the Tony Awards and yes, LaCage stole the Awards show!
I saw La Cage almost four years ago with George Hamilton as Georges and Christopher Sieber as Albin aka Zaza when it came on tour to California. The show wasn't great but it was hilarious and lavish!
@garret166 right, so the original la cage play and film was the basis for both the musical la cage, and the film the bird cage. in other words, the original french play would be the grandpa, the french film came from that, and is the father of both the musical la cage, and the birdcage. the musical and the bird cage are in the same generation of the story. does that make sense?
I feel that they could have chosen an Albin with a stronger voice. In the original cast, George Hearn had a deep, manly voice, but he still pulled off Albin perfectly. I really don't like how they did this song--I haven't seen the show itself, but in this performance at least it wasn't POWERFUL. The words have a powerful meaning to them, which wasn't shown in this at all. This, if anything, was simply comedic. I did love Nathan Lane's face at 4:15 though. hahahah.
@carrieswhite410 I absolutely agree with you. I have seen the show, and the energy was just so much better in the theatre. Douglas Hodge is really very good, but I haven't heard the OBC with George Hearn, so I can't compare. All I can say is, if you get a chance to come to NY and see it live, you should. It really is a lot of fun!
GOD DAMNIT! I'm angry! Four years ago I had the brilliant idea of turning the film Birdcage into a musical. I knew it was too perfect of a story. Damnit. lol
HAHAHA at 4:14 we see Nathan Lane's face... He played the character "Albert" in the 1996 American film version of "La Cage Aux Folles" called "The Birdcage"... He was hysterical!!! The best part? "Albert" is the American counterpart to "Albin" whom is currently singing.
@Kdelossantos2 La Cage isn't a musical version of The Birdcage; The Birdcage is a not-so-musical version of La Cage. I put the date 1996 in an effort to clarify, but perhaps I wasn't clear in my original post. But I think if that's all you got out of the comment, you missed the point.
@Kdelossantos2 @Kdelossantos2 "The Birdcage is the remake of... the comedy "La Cage aux Folles" (1978), which is about a gay man whose son wants him to play it straight for a few days. All of this will be familiar if you've seen the original, or the two sequels, or the Broadway version" ~Roger Ebert
Nathan Lane was bit farther back than Matthew Morrison so I don't think Douglas would've been able to go there and back again in time to dance with Kelsey. But it would've been absolutely amazing if he had.
Wonderful, but I think it's kinda hard to follow the story line in this song, when you haven't seen the show yet. It would have been better I think if they did a cagerelle-song. But still: great performance!
@meggymeggo Not everyone can see a show on Broadway. I live in California and get most of my B'way fix through youtube or the local theatre. I am judging Douglas Hodge by seeing the performances he's done so far through youtube, just as I did with George Hearn and the obc soundtrack. I simply don't like him compared to George Hearn. I'm allowed to have an opinion whether I've seen the show live or not, thank you. I know enough about it to be able to say that.
@theatremaniagrl14 Its moraly wrong like the guys dressed like girls yes its art but its also really bad art the music suck did they have to choose this song GOD save us all

for some reason I find it really sweet when Kelsey Grammer starts singing "is now..."
Thank you for posting. Amazing quality. Excellent work. Thank you.
This is wonderful quality! Thank you for uploading!
I just love this show, reminds of two dear friends.
Great sounding group

i am now in love with La Cage Aux Folles

One of the best musicals. :)
Awesome,,i wish i could be a great entertainer like you guys!!!
I saw the revival but with understudy. I loved it. IT was simple and made me happy that the audience clapped.

La cage was on bway in the mid 80s.
I love Matthew Morrison

I saw La Cage in my birthday in New York last year... One of the best days in my life.

@LaerdBryn Albin is the character, and he def sings it on broadway. Saw it last week with Harvey Fierstein. Who sings the song in LA?
Can't wait to see Douglas in the new version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Should be a great show!
Lmao, brilliant.

Is that Idina Menzel at 1:50 sitting i the front row?
+Hannah Nolan You are correct Let It Go
They turned it into a musical ?
The original (1973) was only a play and the actors used to change their lines, for more fun.

@JAMbannana how is this shameful? it's art!

@JAMbannana god save us from inappropriate clothing? i think there are better things god could save us from war, prejudice, famine?
I just wished that she would've sung to Nathan Lane!
@Selendomono IT'S BROADWAY! lol
lol will smith sounded a bit scared :P
wah....?

This is not the best number from the show, wonder why it was chosen? I guess KG is in it! At least the entire company got paid!

this is shameful to mankind
