  • I made a new version of this video in November 2019 which you can watch here: • BuJo 101: The Rolling ...
    Here by popular demand after my 2018 Bullet Journal Set Up video! This quick video explains the concept of the running weekly (also called a running task list or rolling weekly) and how I use it in my bullet journal.
    The running task list is a great alternative to a standard daily or weekly spread in your bullet journal if you're someone like me with lots of tasks to get done that don't have a specific deadline.
    I tried to explain it as clearly as I could without rambling on for too long (as I am wont to do) but if I missed anything or you still have questions, please feel free to leave them below!
    Materials used in this video:
    Rhodia Webnotebook
    Micron Archival Ink Pen in 005
    Tombow Brush Pen in N95, N65, and 533

    Love your video’s!
    I used your layout last week, and I have something to add. If a task needs to be done more times in a week, like cleaning the catlitterbox, I draw a square under de diferent days that I want to do the task. When The tast for that day is done, I put a cross in the square. In this way you can still scedule a task on a specific day and if it is repetitive, you only have to write it down once a week 😀

    as a student and also chronic slacker, this totally blew my mind. i've been bullet journalling for two and a half years at this point and never saw or thought of this! now i can just have a list of homework that needs to get done and not only keep track on a separate list, but also not feel so awful when i have to keep moving stuff and marking it unfinished. awesome!

    Oh my God!! It instantly made me feel calm bc it doesn't look as overwhelming as my old method..thank you so much,game changer for real!!!♡

    I’ve been keeping a bullet journal for about half a year now and had yet to figure out or come across a weekly spread that I truly liked or stuck to until I found yours. This is perfect! Thank you! I love it and it really fits my needs so much better than my previous layouts.

    I just used this weekly log for this whole week. It is just the perfect fit for me because I have big tasks every week which may take more than a day. I do not want to create a new collection for every bigger task. I just use subtasks in the weekly. I'm so thankful for finding this video. It fixed my problem with my bujo

    I just ran into this video and I had no idea this was called a running weekly. I started using something similar recently but it's more the daily logging that I do than weekly. I also list out things as a to do list in my spread on the left side and then just write the tasks each day as I go, both the ones from the list and then ones that pop up in my mind on that specific day. Very nice of you to share this 🤗

      It can also be called a rolling weekly, that’s the term I use most often these days! That’s awesome ☺️ It’s definitely my favourite weekly layout, I’ve been using it for over a year now!

    Perfect timing. I'm planning to use a weekly planner, Hobonichi Weekly and was actually considering doing a running list with the days columns. Before I had been using the Jibun weekly and the Hobonichi daily planner. In both planners I would find myself rewriting.
    Glad to see how you had set yours up. Plus also to see how you use the time blocking. I've watched your other video and everything you had said hit home with me.
    Great presentation. I'm looking forward to viewing more of your videos.

    This isn’t something I need because I’ve never done “dailies”. The one day, pre drawn, with tasks listed on it. I never could figure it out. So my task list is always running. I just migrate any unfinished tasks every couple of pages/days depending on how many pages I use in a day/week.
    But I had to figure that out naturally, through trial and error. It’s nice that you have this for people who are struggling to find the perfect middle-ground answer. ❤️

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  5 років тому +1

      I did regular old rapid logging in dailies for a long time and loved it! I need some future planning, though, otherwise my anxiety goes through the roof. I find this layout is a good hybrid for my purposes!

    I've been struggling to find the best weekly setup for like a year now, but this looks amazing! I'll definitely try this in my new bullet journal. Actually I enjoy decorating waaaay too much to keep it this simple hahaha but I never really copy anything for 100% so I'll try to adjust it to my style. I'm always struggling between wanting it to be nice and clean and easy to review, but also not wanting to be hard on myself and being able to experiment with lots of decorating, just because it's fun ;)

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  6 років тому +1

      I totally get that! Usually decorate along the top of i have time, and I’m sure there are other ways to get creative with the set up, but I like to keep it pretty simple for weeklies since I usually set them up in 5 minutes at work or at the coffee shop or something with only a pen in my bag! I hope you like the system ❤️

    The dailies aren’t meant to be a planner in the original system. So far, it’s fine for me to just list things as they come and then go back and look over them at the end of each week/month and decide what I want to carry over. In other words, my dailies are already a running task list for the day, week, and month (I don’t copy them to every new day, there’s way too much stuff). I get that for many people it’s a “to do list” but for me it’s more of a focus/awareness system and a “get stuff out of my head without deciding if it matters now as I can assess that later” system. I know the difference might seem subtle, but my use of the bullet journal is more of as a journal. If I treated what I write down as a hard “to do” it would drive me nuts. There’s way more “tasks” than a human could possibly complete.

    this is so amazing, I always wanted to combine a to do list with my weekly set up but never succeeded :) do you have a solution for tasks that should be done more than once per week? like going for a run three times. would love to hear about your idea !

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  5 років тому +2

      I’m glad you like it! I usually just mark all the days I end up doing it. So for example I aim to post on my Instagram every day, so I’ll put a little dot under the day of the week each time I post and put one line through the task bullet beside the task (in this case, IG posts) until I’ve posted every day. Then I can fully cross of the task bullet because I met my goal of posting everyday!
      Sometimes if it’s not an everyday thing, so your example of going for a run three times a week, I would write the task “go for a run (3)” or “go for a run x3” so that when I’m looking at it I know my goal is to do it at least three times. And then it’s just the same thing - I’ll put a little dot under the days of the week that I end up going for a run, draw a line from the first dot to the task bullet, put one line through the task bullet after the first run and I only fully cross off the task bullet if I run at least the number of times that I put beside the task. (In this example, 3!) It’s kind of hard to describe but hopefully you understand what I’m trying to say! ☺️

  • @profetik777

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  5 років тому

      Rapid logging in daily logs works really well for a lot of people too! It just depends on you and how you organize your brain ☺️

  • @maxjmuller
    @maxjmuller 5 років тому

    I love this. But do you still use daily logs? And monthly? How do you combine them with this? I really like this weekly spread, but also find that I need more room for each day than the four lines in the weekly spread. So, I end up keeping a daily log for each day too. The problem is then, to know what do on a given day, I'm looking at 1) the weekly spread 4-line box for that day, 2) the running weekly task list, and 3) my daily log for that day. Is there a streamlined approach to this that reduces the number of places I have to look to know what to do in a given moment? Reading back as I write this comment now, I guess what I'm proposing is eliminating the day of the week boxes in the weekly spread and just using the weekly running task list combined with a daily log. But I also like the days of the week boxes because it does allow me to look at the week as a whole and log priority tasks for each day there. Is there a more streamlined approach to all this?

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  5 років тому

      Thanks, Max!
      I don’t use daily logs, just the daily sections on my weekly. I do use a monthly so I can write out important events/work schedule/etc. for the whole month and visually see it (I like a traditional calendar monthly, it’s best for my brain!). I add things to my monthly that aren’t happening in my current week, then fill them into my weekly when I make it.
      I used to use a lot more space for my dailies, but because most tasks are on the daily task list and not in the daily section (that’s just for work, events, appointments, and tasks that are day specific) I end up finding 4-5 rows is enough. Some weeks I want more space and I’ll make this spread using two two-page spreads instead of one with a faux Dutch door! It’s hard to explain, but I set it up in my February Plan With Me if you want an example: ua-cam.com/video/0f1MXsa4po4/v-deo.html (from around 10:50 )
      I hope that helps a bit!

  • @Minnie11chula
    @Minnie11chula 5 років тому

    Do you track when items are added? I am just starting but have done daily spread written the day of or day before with tasks and appts but then on the facing page add tasks/notes/things to be scheduled/future logged that come up that day. It has been tedious and disheartening rewriting tasks that did not get done into the next day’s spread but also allows me to log the interruptions and new tasks that come up during the day so I can be mindful of getting distracted. I guess I could do a running weekly with tasks but feel like I also need the “unlimited” space for daily notes/tasks that arise. Any suggestions? Thanks I am a new subscriber and so enjoy your videos & seeing your sweet feline assistants 💕

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  5 років тому +1

      I don’t usually, but you could date the tasks if you wanted to see when they were added! Hmm if you want more space, you could always try the faux Dutch door version of the spread? Y running task list is just a notepad with a running list of reminders. Anything repeatable is never marked ofg. I simply draw a line through it. This reminds me I have already did this once. Some tasks i list repeatedly at spaced intervals. This is only because the details have changed.
    Then I got so good at this, I began to keep the kids in my head,like a computer menu. Occasionally I will do a new just to fo a review and thereby accelarate my method.
