I thought the Netherrealm ALSO played a key part. Didn't Lui Kang's final battle take place in the Netherrealm? Also Scorpion and Sub-Zero were found in Goro's Lair by the game's end; which is located on Shang Tsung's abandoned Island. This would imply that SOME events took place in Earthrealm, some in Edenia, possibly the Heavens; though I believe the Temple of the Elder Gods is probably ALSO located in Earthrealm, as well as the Shaolin Temples, and the Final battle concluded in the Netherrealm. Although the Netherrealm wouldn't make any sense because Shinnok is sent there AFTER his defeat. The Living Forest and Reptile's Lair is located in Outworld. Basically MK4 is a TOTAL mess filled with non-cannon stages; like the Soul Chamber, also in Outworld, and that's why it's so hard to determine the actual events and had to be re-written. I think Edenia, the heavens, and MAYBE some of the Netherrealm and Earthrealm play a part. I'm assuming Scorpion and Sub-Zero were SOMEWHERE in Edenia, despite being featured in a non-cannon Goro's Lair, and Johnny's ending happens at literally ANY time in the story, maybe even after MK1. However Sub-Zero defeated Sektor in the Ice Pit for control of the Lin Kuei and that stage is either in Earthrealm or Outworld. I guess SOME of Earthrealm and Outworld play a part in the overall events. Anyway sorry this was long, but you wanted evidence to suggest Earthrealm was involved in the events of MK4 and MK Gold and the Shaolin Temples and the Ice Pit prove this
Great evidence! And I agree the story is a mess and they don't give us a lot of solid information to go on. However it's my belief that most of these stages are just non-canon. Like you said, it doesn't make sense for Shinnok to get banished to the Netherrealm if he is already in the Netherrealm haha. We also got the Living Forest which is in Outworld. Goro's lair.... maybe he has multiple lairs and this one was in Kuatan? Some of the "canon" endings are only partially canon too. For example, Liu Kang fights and defeats Shinnok AFTER Quan Chi reveals himself to Scorpion and gets sent back to the Netherrealm. So this final battle between the 2 may not have even taken place in the Netherrealm. I just think that when you match the intro comic up with the majority of the endings, it makes sense that the plot began and ended in Edenia. There are some Earthrealm/Outworld stages in the game but we don't really see any conflict within these.
dude. thank you. i just spent a solid 2 hours trying to connect all the dots in the original trilogys lore only to find this. thank you. i jsut keep forgetting at what part is what
Thanks! Those actually have never been konfirmed. There was a lot of rumors that Baraka had his staples in MK Gold because he got sliced in half by Kung Lao. I was thinking of doing an MK rumors video where this is addressed.

Only thing that makes it look like some of mk4 took place in Earthrealm is when you fight in Goro’s lair. That was on Shang Tsung’s island in Earthrealm.
Yep, but I think that was solely for the game and not actually canon in the lore since Goro is kind of a good guy in MK4. And if we wanna get REAL technical Tsung's island is in a "place between realms"
@@MKTemple I just also realized that you fight in the Ice Pit in the Lin Kuei temple and the Shaolin temple. Those are in Earthrealm. The living forest is in Outworld, so it would have to be there, too, as is Reptile’s lair.
I got curious again and wanted to learn what happened during MK4 in detail. From what I know, Sonya followed Lui into the Netherrealm while Jax stayed behind in the heavens or Edenia. I think Baraka was resurrected to fight as an outworld general but I have no idea where or what Reptile was doing since I'm sure he has his own lair. Even Goro's involvement feels slightly off because he agrees to a peace treaty between the centaurs and shoukans yet he also has a vendetta towards Lui Kang; there're so many holes that it really needs to be further analyzed or fleshed out.
@@FreeOpenTruth been a while since I last read my own post but I can agree with you on that. It’s also weird that I can think how the Gold characters can still work with enough explanation like Kung Lao killed Baraka but he was followed by several other Tarkartans that he needed to fake his death to escape.
In the original timeline (MK1-MK Armageddon) he never becomes human again. He remains a Spectre until everything ends with Armageddon. EDIT: In the new timeline. He becomes partly human after the Netherrealm War on Earth. Johnny Cage and Sonya infiltrate Quan Chi's fortress in the Netherrealm and defeat him. Sub-Zero, Jax and Scorpion who were all revenants of Chi became free of his spell as they were there at the time. The other revenants like Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kitana, were elsewhere and thus they did not break free from chi's spell. However, I say "partly" human because he still has the hellfire burning within him and at times he can lose control and it will konsume him, making him Scorpion again.Later, Scorpion meets Kenshi and helps him to control his hellfire and also urges him to rebuild the Shirai Ryu. They touch upon this more in the MKX Komics which took place between the time jump that happens in MKX.
0:54 this seems to connect to the comics this comic cover, this must be the moment Sonya activated the techno portal and the Earthrealm warriors all crossed into Edenia to start the fight 😮!
Still Don't understand why edenia wasn't freed from being merged with outworld after shao kahn's death in mk9 in the new timeline, yet it's freed in the old timeline during mk4
I was always under the impression it's because Sindel survived in the old timeline and after joining forces with the warriors of light to defeat Kahn, she was able to free Edenia. In the new timeline all the high standing Edenian warriors (Sindel, Kitana, Jade) died and became revenants so there was no one to actively free the realm. In MKX there is some dialogue between Tanya and Kotal claiming that if Mileena took control of Outworld she would free Edenia. Kotal chose to keep the realms merged because he thought it made Outworld stronger.
I plan to span the entire series. Unfortunately the videos take a good amount of my time and I only do this as a hobby but I will try to get the next one out ASAP
7:45 Wait, where is it stated the Tanya trap (minus Liu Kang’s death of course) is canon? The fake amulet thing I know is confirmed in DA since Quan Chi uses the realm amulet as part of the alliance.
I loved your videos of MK History. But i found only one thing Wrong in this video: Sub-Zero as Kuai Liang never fight again Scorpion before Armageddon battle. So be, this Ending in MK4 of Scorpion is partially Canon. In Scorpion Deadly Alliance Bio card, he say who Sub-Zero tells him the truth, but never do mention about a fight. And in that same game on Konquest fighting tutorial mode, one of the History tells about a promisse who Scorpion do about to not Kill Sub-Zero. So its probally who Scorpion and Sub-Zero only talks, and do not fight in MK4. That fight never have only one mention until the MK4 Ending.
Thanks for watching and I am glad you enjoy the videos! See this link for more on that: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/mkwikia/images/b/b8/Scorpion._bio_1.png/revision/latest?cb=20190825014026 This event is definitely canon and one of the most important events in the original MK timeline. You are correct about the promise Scorpion made to Kuai Liang. In MKII he found out that this was not the same Sub-Zero from MKI (Bi Han) and Scorpion promised to protect Kuai Liang since he was responsible for taking his brother's life. In MK4 we find out that Scorpion was under the impression Kuai Liang had a hand in killing his family & clan (he didn't thins was a lie from Quan Chi to get Scorpion to side with the Netherrealm). Because of this Scorpion went back on his promise and instead hunted down Kuai Liang for the crimes he believed he committed on his family. This is what led to the fight between them in MK4.
