I actually cried a bit at the end there. They really wanted to make that super emotional and succeeded. That song 100% is gotta be the ending credits song for the game. Im not ready to be emotionally damaged again 😢

Seeing Shadows Generations as a back door pitch for Sonic Adventure 3 is an interesting way to look at it. Especially when combined with Sonic Movie 3. Also to add, Shadow & The Gun Commander became homies in Shadow the Hedgehog, specifically the Expert Mode levels replaces the hints with voice messages from the Sonic cast. The Gun Commander's message in Expert Mode is a nice one.

this broke me but it will be hilarious going from sonic generations to shadow generations, like "ehi tails, are those hills a bit green? let's go see!" to shadow relieving all his trauma 💀
That's why I'm playing Shadow Gens first: I'LL NEED THE HAPPY FEELS FROM SONIC GENS TO HELP ME WITH THE EMOTIONAL DEVASTATION RIGHT AFTER.
This is easily the best episode so far. Animation and looks as always are incredible, the action is just mind blowing. Sweet to see more Rouge and Omega and even Abe gun commander as an adult, plus another returning boss from shadow game. I was not expecting that emotional send off with shadow thinking back to the past and imagining being with Maria. Really got me emotional, can’t describe how grateful and happy I am as a shadow fan, this short prologue series has been incredible. Can’t wait to continue the rest of the story. 🖤❤️
I'm glad they showed us the relationship of shadow and maria; They really do feel like a sibling and seeing maria covering him in a blanket in the forest was both sweet and heartbreaking at the same time. WHY DID SHE HAVE TO DIE!! 😭

Fun fact: the singer of the song in this is Casey Lee Williams who is most well known for her work on the RWBY series and is the vocalist for most of the tracks on the albums.

Casey Lee Williams. From being a vocalist for the Rooster Teeth shows Red Vs Blue and RWBY to taking part in the sonic symphony to now singing an official new song for the sonic franchise.
I like the idea that he chose to use a shuttle rather than Chaos Control because of the ARK. Or rather, what's on it. Basically, he didn't want to waste the energy he might need for a fight on a convenience like travel (Also, what's the chance he still wants to mess with GUN / Eggman for fun?)
I definitely want to listen to that song, Without You, on loop when I play shadow generations. Such a great mini series for Shadow. Two weeks until the game launches

This is what happens when SEGA lightens up on their mandates. It's these kinds of moments that made us fall in love with Sonic, Shadow, and everyone else. Allowing their hidden depths to shine and letting them develop is what invests us more.

You could tell he was trying not to cry due to how his pupils were shaking. He was also probably about to have a panic attack because of how hard he was breathing (speaking from experience).This was an amazing finale, thank you SEGA for making this amazing miniseries!!! And wow, they finally canonized Abe's name.

HMK, it's time for all of us to return...to where it all began so long ago.
They said in a recent interview that if the game does well then it'll let them know if they should make him playable in more games.
This is why I can see that this is the real shadow, not some Edge Lord in later series like Sonic Boom, and I can not help but feel his pain. The loss of a loved one is never easy, especially when taking too soon. 😔😔😔
Technically, only two people ever talked Shadow down. Maria and Amy
But Rouge and Abe are only aware of Maria, since I doubt Shadow or Amy would have told them.
Amy only invoked the memory of Maria, she herself did not change Shadow's mind.
@@zerofudou5689 Amy spoke to him and reminded him of Maria. So you basically just confirmed that Amy was the factor that changed Shadow's disposition. Amy talked him down.

Stephanie did a great job as Maria. Yes most of that is more than likely bias, but I don't care. I love her voice. Karen is a good Rouge. No complaints on her performance. Its definitely better than when I first heard her. As for Kirk... I don't dislike him, especially now that they're giving him more than just basic bootleg Vegeta lines, but I still prefer the original SA2 casting for Shadow... I believe its David Humphrey?
That being said... This little miniseries was a banger. These 6 minutes never passed so fast in my life ever. I just cant help but wonder how much harder this could have hit if we had the OG VAs from SA2 though. Either way... I still need to preorder S×SGen.

Shadow really is the best character in the Sonic franchise.
It's not because he's cool or edgy, he just has the strongest, most consistent, most seriously-taken character arc across the most games. Seeing him almost succumb to emotion before forcing it down here gives me hope he's finally going to conclude his Maria arc in some way and be able to move on. He deserves it, after so long.
And this series has been a great microcosm of why I consider the time I grew up to the be golden age of Sonic. Most games before Sonic Adventure and most games after 06 were disjointed, or had unrelated stories, or were generally just kinda "whatever works for this game", but from SA through to 06 (maybe a bit longer, I get some games mixed up) you had elements showing up in multiple games - Ark, Shadow, the Master Emerald, etc. It felt more like Kingdom Hearts, where everything was taking place in the same world, as opposed to one line dropped about Eggman's last attempt at taking over the world.
If Sonic Generations is anything like these prequel shorts suggest the story will be, Sonic may just return to my must-buy tier of gaming. Which would be nice, cuz after losing Zelda I really need something to take its place.
Funnily enough, the storybook games, particualarly SatBK was the last real game of that era of Sonic titles because whiile they may not have many references and direct plot relations to the set of games from the 00s-10s, they followed a similar design focus around character narratives and worldbuilding even if the worldbuilding in question happens to be a book that Sonic ended up getting magicked into from IRL. The most poignant of the two games being SatBK with the existence or Merlina who's basically the Sonic Earth's version of Morgan le Fae in the tales of king Arthur, serving not only a similar role having been Merlin's apprentice and the antagonist for the tales, but also similar-enough motivations depending on the depiction of the tales. What I also found funny about it all though is that I'd have the pleasure of seeing another interpretation of Morgan in a similar vein to Merlina with the Fate series in FGO a bit over a decade later and it's pretty uncanny how close modern TYPE/MOON's interpretation of Morgan is to Merlina which honestly makes me curious if Nasu might have used SatBK as a reference when writing Avalon le Fae.
Now aside from SatBK glazing, Secret Rings was also pretty solid narratively and when I was younger I quite liked what they did with the original characters there as well, Sharah and Eleazer Djinn. They unfortunately don't have quite as much depth as Merlina however.

As an addendum maybe I should include Sonic Free Riders as well, but I haven't personally had any experience with that game but it also followed up on a lot of things from the 10s era though it can be argued it's not as much of a full title compared to the storybook games.

This coming not long after a girl I really wanted not hearing from her for months recently ending up with someone else really hit different. There's a reason why the likes of Shadow are my favorites.
Unfortunately sonic adventure 3 is confirmed not to happen but who knows with the upcoming success of both sonic x shadow generations and the sonic 3 movie plus we may have to put effort in demanding sonic adventure 3 also if it does happen will there be a place for silver the hedgehog and team chaotix perhaps mighty and ray well heres hopeing.

The Dark Beginnings series was PEAK Sonic media! The only thing I don't like about them is: Sonic - isn't - present. I KNOW this is supposed to be Shadow's story - I GET THAT - so then WHY not make the new game Shadow Adventure? Or Shadow the Hedgehog 2? Why have Sonic's name there at all??
Sorry - I'm just a Sonic fangirl and not getting to see my boy blue rendered in this AMAZING animation style and looking just as hot breaks my heart. And now with the ending of the Dark Beginning's series... I never will. 😑
