There, It is a metaphor about a moment in time of how we sometimes feel regret at unrequited love because of our own mistakes, and move on, not an actual apparition of the mind or imagination. This is a song about lost young love, in a form called a lament while wondering. I can love someone and remember those I loved before. You can't forget that love and desire that is a part of you from the past, can you? I feel that is what he is singing about. I can't believe only men feel and process in their minds this the best they can.
