Just turned 100k miles. The only thing I’ve ever done was change the oil regularly with synthetic and new spark plugs recently. Extremely reliable car and still looks great at 9 years old.
People really need to get out of the stone age. KIA and Hyundai have moved up in the world of reliability and quality and offer a lot of things similar German or Japanese manufacturers don't offer or are part of an extremely expensive package.
My 2011 SX-TGDI is pretty awesome. I've had lexus, infiniti, toyota, etc, and I have to say I like the Kia better. For the money you get alot of car and a great warranty. Yeah, there is some lag and the steering is heavy, but no car is perfect...Oh, and those wheels are gay, I'm glad I don't have those. Kia ditch the chrome..

I just bought a gently used one of these to replace my daily driver. Impressive vehicle. That turbo surprises you. Not to mention in this video, you can reduce the turbo lag by using the sport shift mode and holding gears. I love this car.

I love my 2013 SXL, Wheels replaced under warranty for chrome flaking. But except for the telescopic steering not extending that far, and a front suspension noise no one can trace down. I love this car. Owned for 5 years now.

I own this exact car. its 5 years old now, Still runs prefect. Its very quick and fun to drive. The only complaints are the cheap ass battery and the brake pads wear out quick.
I am still impressed on this Kia Optima. I have the 2013 SX model and myself and wife love it!!! We have now 30,000 miles and still runs as good as when we drive it out the lot. The only thing I hate but love is that it's really low in front and have to be very careful with drives ways. I love the carbon fiber inside and have purchased the carbon fiber license plate frames which make it look as if it came with it cause it goes with the carbon fiber inside. I will keep u guys posted on how this Optima does when I put more miles into it...I was thinking of buying the kit that increases the horsepower from 274HP to 400-450 HP but will keep u guys posted...for now the 274 is truly more then enough.

My aunt bought one of these brand new back in 2013, hers was black with the Black diamond Tucked interior, at the time that she bought it there was only one other SXL in Alabama at the time for sale and it was the electric blue with the white diamond tucked interior. It was extremely nice, and would absolutely fly. She loved the car and not too long after she paid it off There was a huge hail storm and it totaled it sadly but it was a great car the whole entire time that she had it.
The reason a Camry would win is because it has a bigger engine, it's a six cylinder rather than the Kia's four cylinder turbo GDI. The SX trim alone has other car companies like BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus. The Kia Optima SX has heated and cooled seats, panoramic sunroof, memory seats, and so much more. If you wanted those features in another car you would have to pay nearly double what Optima costs. There is a reason this car keeps winning Kelly Blue Book car of the year back to back and continuing. I drive this car and there is plenty of power, honestly more than I need, also to solve your tiny bit of turbo lag (which all turbo engines have) downshift one or two gears before you make your maneuver. This is a great car, and to get better MPG just use premium or at least mid grade gas. Kia deserves a pat on the back with this car!

My dad just copped a '13 SX-L and it's really nice. Definitely some turbo lag when you get on it but once the turbos spool up this things gone. Interior is very nice and modern and it looks really great on the outside
While the Legacy offered a turbo engine, it also had a 6-cyl upgrade engine as well. Same goes for the Passat which used to offer a turbo 4 as the base engine with a VR6 upgrade. Hyundai/Kia was the first to offer the turbo 4 as the V6 replacement.
Pano roof, electronic brake, LED running lights...Kia has a winner. Toyota doesn't have any of those. Honda only has LED running lights. Nissan doesn't have any of those.
I originally wanted to purchase an all wheel drive Fusion that's also turbo but less horsepower and less leg room out back. The Optima can easily sit a person that's 6' +. Really an all around car...And I have owned a BMW 325,Audie, and Mercedes but For the price I love the Optima. If the fusion would have had a little more leg room out back I would have probably bought the Fusion. But I don't regret the Optima at all.
As far as the Kia Optima goes, I like the model years form 2010-2020, I don’t care for the ones form 2009 and before and I’m not a huge fan of the new 2021 Kia Optima. I’d rather buy a 2010-2020 Kia Optima, and I would like one in white.
You can put a tuning chip in it a d get another 20hp. I also saw a video of an optima sx modded dragged race a modded bmw 335i and smoked it. Lots lf kimichi under the hood.
Seeing this model makes me appreciate the latest generation so much more. New gen just looks so much more mature. The perfect analogy is to me is that the previous generation reminds me of a night at the bars while the latest generation reminds me of perfect date night for two at a jazz bar or something. It's just grown up as if it put on a nice suit or something.
He said that the v6 camry and accord will smoke the sx. 0-60 times say that too. Not in real life though. I own an sxl and have tested against my friends' v6 camrys and accord coup. from 0-60 about even, with camry usually half body length ahead because of kia's turbo lag and same with the accord. After 60 mph my sxl pulls away. From 15-20mph roll on beat them all the time because don't have to deal with turbo lag. I have dunlop tires on my sxl though because the stock one kia comes with suck
Also, the other main strength of 2theredline is the fact that you give your honest opinion of interior materials, ride quality, styling, etc. in a comprehensive way. Sure, Motor Trend and others will touch on some of that, but you guys give a much more in-depth impression of the car. That is why I keep coming back to watch your reviews. With so many auto review channels out there, you guys need to make sure you continue stand apart. Just my two cents.
While I don't mind you guys trying to do a more professional review format, you need to make sure the cameras are focusing on what you are pointing out. Specifically, when you are sitting in the vehicle and pointing to the shifter or e-brake, we can't see anything. It's distracting. Part of what makes the old POV reviews so great is that it allows the viewers to experience the car as if they were sitting in it.
My first car I bought at a dealership white with panoramic roof, back in 2017ish until It was total in a accident, not my fault but mine was the sx-t trim and not the sxl....still 👍
I have A Kia 2013 sxl I bought it Jan 2014 it was a left over it had 200 miles on it. Six years later I have less then 25k miles on it. Only The Kia dealership I bought it from has worked on it, the turbo was 1 thing, and it still isn't right. I paid 250.00 when it is covered! With all the recalls the warranty has went from 100k Mike's 10 years to 120k miles or 12yrs. That is the only money I have put in this car, and they will give it back when I bring it back. The dealership gives me loaner cars, awesome dealership!
like many of the comments below i agree with Kia's come up. its not easy starting with one model adn becoming what they have today. they have produced quality cars that last just as log as any other. had an 05 Legacy GT turbo. i loved that car and this is one of the few cars that remind me of it. after watching this im considering this for a future buy because of the interior set up and amount of power.

I have to tell you, I do get noticed when I drive around in my Optima SX. Don't get the LX or the EX model because it looks kind of blah. There's a huge difference in looks she you get the SX or the SX Limited. Back to my story....when I first got my SX early in 2011 when the Optimas are relatively unknown, I've had people rolling down their windows and commenting my car. I've had people waiting outside the supermarket near my car just to talk to me about it. I've had Jack in the box drive through cashier question my car and how good it looks through their drive through camera! I've had coworkers ask me about my car, I've had people left and right just look at me in traffic and women turning heads to see what I'm driving. Or maybe they're checking me out hehe. But just saying, this car is an eye catcher. It's becoming pretty damn popular now so I don't get the same looks as much since most people drive one now. I wanted something unique at the time and now it's common everywhere. I'm just saying from personal experience with my Optima. It's fast, has great features you usually find in BMW and Lexus for a lesser price.
The steering mode can be adjusted by the dealer for a sportier feel. SX standard mode is what you want. The 2014 models will allow you to change this on the fly from the steering wheel.
Regarding the fuel economy...Our 2017 SXL got 37 MPG's at 75 MPH going from Reno to Vegas and back (in August last year) Around town not so impressive...20MPG in Reno at 4,400 foot elevation.

To Amdx1325.. I bought this car in November 2012.. Currentl have 23K mi.. I dont know what rattles & noiises you're talking about.. Im VERY picky.. & if i had any type of noises or Rattles.. I'd would say it..& i wld 've return it to the dealer.. Ive driven 11 hrs non-stop thru several states..Twice.. Plus i recently did a 2hour jaunt to Boston..very Quiet & smooth.. As for turbo lag.. When i want to do a lil stop light competition.. Just take the "Eco" button off.. & you can peel the front tire
Pretty good review. Bought a 2014 used and while most used vehicles can be bought at bargain prices that especially goes for Hyundai/Kia vehicles. I guess they are still viewed as a cheap vehicle that isn't made well. Drove mine for 2yrs and its been great. Thought about trading up to a newer model but the old style looks so much better imho. And the pano sunroof is amazing.

Kia has moved up from what they were. They even dived into the luxury arena with the Cadenza and K900. They are really reliable cars from what I hear. The warranty is amazing, quality, looks, and technology are pleasing as well. I say give KIA 5 years, and the luxury arena will notice them without a doubt.
Love this car! Just got mine recently, same exact trim but in Titanium Silver. VERY very impressed with quality and performance. If it only comes in AWD lol
Hard to believe the Limited is a year old already.. I remember this car was a huge deal last summer when I videoed with the Kia dealer. Its for sure their nicest car, but I can't justify the price. I think the sweet spot is the EX.

It wants to be as good as the rest of the class. It just needs that little extra refinement, and it will be. I can see KIA/Hyundai being class leaders in the next 10 years.
Soft Touch dash just adds a little more sophistication to the car and makes it look more expensive. I personally look for a car with soft touch dash because it makes the car look less cheap inside

I have a 2012 optima sx and it has been extremely reliable. Not to mention it turns heads everywhere. I still don't believe the Ford Fusion or Mazda 6 looks as good as the Optima.

I never really let the amount of soft touch materials in the interior affect my buying choice for a car. Just me though. I think you put a little too much emotion if the dash isn't entirely soft touch or the bottom on the door isn't soft touch.

Jacob Ridgway The Camry has a 4-cylinder option as well -- it's not a V6 only car. There's even a Hybrid. Same applies to the Accord.

they're full LED so the flickering is because of the camera not being able to record the lights fully and properly

That is a 6spd dual clutch transmission. Top of the line transmission out there today

I'd would say it..& i wld 've return it to the dealer.. Ive driven 11 hrs non-stop thru several states..Twice.. Plus i recently did a 2hour jaunt to Boston..very Quiet & smooth.. As for turbo lag.. When i want to do a lil stop light competition.. Just take the "Eco" button off.. & you can peel the front tire
Pretty good review. Bought a 2014 used and while most used vehicles can be bought at bargain prices that especially goes for Hyundai/Kia vehicles. I guess they are still viewed as a cheap vehicle that isn't made well. Drove mine for 2yrs and its been great. Thought about trading up to a newer model but the old style looks so much better imho. And the pano sunroof is amazing.
Camry or Accord will smoke this car he says?.. tahaha.. smh. Don't underestimate the 274 ponies on this baby. It's got serious power. I know coz I own one.

Kia has moved up from what they were. They even dived into the luxury arena with the Cadenza and K900. They are really reliable cars from what I hear. The warranty is amazing, quality, looks, and technology are pleasing as well. I say give KIA 5 years, and the luxury arena will notice them without a doubt.

Hard to believe the Limited is a year old already.. I remember this car was a huge deal last summer when I videoed with the Kia dealer. Its for sure their nicest car, but I can't justify the price. I think the sweet spot is the EX.
LEDs have a very fast refresh rate so on camera they always look like they're flickering or something is wrong when its actually fine.
Definitely need to see a review of the turbo version and also how about a 2010-2011 altima 3.5
I have a 2013 sxl. And it's much different when you use the Manuel mode. It feels faster.

Soft Touch dash just adds a little more sophistication to the car and makes it look more expensive. I personally look for a car with soft touch dash because it makes the car look less cheap inside

I have a 2012 optima sx and it has been extremely reliable. Not to mention it turns heads everywhere. I still don't believe the Ford Fusion or Mazda 6 looks as good as the Optima.

I never really let the amount of soft touch materials in the interior affect my buying choice for a car. Just me though. I think you put a little too much emotion if the dash isn't entirely soft touch or the bottom on the door isn't soft touch.
Great looking car. But I think the styling would wear out on me in a few weeks of driving it.
I love the Kia Optima, however, for someone who hasn't done all the research I've done, this review is a weak representation to me.
u get the LED tailights on the sx and sxl. your neighbor probably has an ex or lx optima.
The fusions hill start assist is better than the auto hold :P
