Even though it's small, this is easily one of the most entertaining and informative surf channels I've come across. Keep up the great work. YEEW

I was surfing last weekend and the words "eyes up" just echoed through my mind all the time. And man, I caught a lot of waves💕

I have surfed a lot of years, with a lousy 2 step pop up. Confidence is low for those fast breaking waves. I've seen a lot of you tube lessons and recognised the principles but couldn't gauge how far out my flexibility is. Thanks for giving me a target. Best video lesson by far

this is a game changer for begginers, because your body will follow your neck, that follows your head, that follows your eyes and that's my friends, is the most important aspect of the dreadful, hard to learn popup, because if is not done the proper way, nothin else matters, and I would add my 5 cc here by suggestin to twist your hand a bit on the deck prior to popping up, so you are already on an advantage position because your hips will twist along with the hands and your front feet will fall exactly the way it should to maximase the optimal standing position as you drop on the wave...hope that helps...

This is a very good approach to the pop up. You finally put into words what I've been doing for years in all my challenges and activities throughout life. Understand the principle behind everything, that way you know how to handle any changes that might happen.

Exactly! Before last session, thought 'I could pop up a bit quicker I reckon, what can I do?' Went OL to get some ideas. Wasted an hour in the swell 'practicing' another's Methodology.
Gave up and went back to how I pop up. Bam, instant rides again based on the Principals.
    Cheers from Oregon, USA.

Great video, I practice at home alot. It really helps. I'm much quicker to my feet now. Obstacles for me were; not being warmed up enough. I'm 56 years old, and can do it good when warmed up, not so much cold. Looking at the board. This caused problems for me too. So, practice at home, and look where you want to go. Catch lots of waves, have fun.

    • @TheSurfRat

Hey Alexandr. Some people will say to never hold your rails. I hold my rails. I don't think it matters. There are so many other things to get right that are much more important!

Fundamentals with everything in life are the keys to success. Combine that with patience, practice and persistence and you will succeed.
I think the "Pop-Up" should be renamed to the "Slide-Up". Sliding up provides so much more control in my humble opinion.
