OMG you guys need to watch this movie. It's an absolute classic...... Great great great movie...... It's Romantic Comedy with family drama. It's hard to explain how much this movie means to Malayalis, it's that much an Iconic movie.
Suresh Gopi is the 2nd lead from Manichitrathazhu, which you saw. Also you were right, he was 2nd Behind Mohanlal and Mammootty in Kerala. Also Jayaram was also pretty big he was kinda 3rd in the Ranking after Mohanlal Mammootty and Suresh Gopi....
So this Movie was also pretty big In terms of Cast when Jayaram and Suresh Gopi and with a Mohanlal Cameo(Yes he is in this movie, plays pivotal character but in a small cameo role).
Suresh Gopi and Jayaram were equally big in the 90s to Mohanlal and Mammootty. But they couldn't maintain the stardom like Mammootty and Mohanlal but still both are still pretty active. And Suresh Gopi also this year gave a hit with his new movie which was a thriller. Jayaram is also going to make huge comeback yearly next year with his new movie
Oh mannnn what an endorsement!! We will be watching this one for sure, it sounds fantastic and this gives us so much context. All that plus I want to start watching more Susesh Gopi, might be worth doing a deep dive and starting with this!

Also I don't wanna Hype "Summer in Bethlehem" too much as in the end, you are watching this from a foreign perspective and there are cultural nuances you could not digest with this movie and many movies of that time period but it is still worth checking out, it's ok if you end up not liking it but it's well acted, gorgeously shot even for it's time, has a banger album.
There are many many Hit movies of suresh Gopi that I think you'll like. Suresh Gopi was known more of an Action star whereas Jayaram was more of a Comedy or Humor star...... But when both do serious compelling drama roles both would simply ace it. Suresh Gopi even has a National award from his Intense movie Kaliyattam.
All my personal Favorite Suresh Gopi Movies are from the 90s....
But I'd suggest you watch some of his recent ones as post 2020 he has kinda re-invented himself playing proper aged roles. So my natural suggestion would be to watch......" Garudan" released this year and was a box office hit and it's available on prime so subs are there.... Then check out Varaney avishyam undo which has Dulquer salman also in it
I just saw the Garudan pop up on Amazon.. looks like a fascinating police procedural? I watched the trailer, but no subtitles on the Amazon trailer (but they will be there in the movie I assume). Planning to watch it soon and looking forward to beginning the Suresh Gopi chapter!
Yeah wow, might do another song or two post watching, or maybe the week before we watch! I'm really excited to watch it now with all these notes about it. I found a copy with subtitles, so that's a good start. Also looking forward to seeing Jayaram!

I can't tell you what this song does to me. It is probably something which is difficult to get the first time. This song so melodious, and it is beautiful blend of classical and western instruments. The beauty of the song easily dwarfs the beauty of the visuals

@@D54pod it's from a different movie called Kaliyattam (1997) means the Play of God. It is based on the Theyyam artform of Kerala where the performer dresses up and acts as a bridge between deities and humans.
Oooh this movie! I have been actually wanting to watch this movie as I want to see that a movie about that artform! Will check this out for sure.

Good one. But you need to use subtitles, if you watching old songs. Because, old songs are very poetic. Its not a happy song. She is pretending as a happy person to everyone. But actually, she is dieing inside. That much of pain she carries inside.
