The fact that they are releasing these with Takatoku style boxes feels like an insult. They're reminding you of a better quality toy with one that falls apart if you look at it wrong.
The skull squadron paint are just simply beautiful
Another Jenius review! I got a first release Hikaru, and it falls apart by looking at it. I am glad they improved their future designs.
Darn, this makes me skeptical of getting the newer ones from BBTS. 🤔 $50 now vs the $20 these were is quite a jump especially if it’s so fragile. 😔
nice thorough review. i'm new to the macross/robotech universe and was looking for a toy to buy. looks like i'll be skipping these unless i can find it for cheap
12:57 I got the toynami 30anniversary and got the unlucky one with the gearwalk being the sloppiest and having the same problem with the fighter with the arms, at least as you said the battroid is the best, thankfully got with the heavy armor for that and it looks great

Love these, perfect nope but hits all the notes at a decent price and if one falls it's not a big deal now we need some battle pods and 1/100 tomahawks and monster
If the plastic quality were better, and if they had added more locking tabs and integrated the hands into the transformation, then the toy would be near perfect for me.
I used to have simple toys as a kid! They were just fine as i remember. Without missiles. Can simple robotech toys be found nowadays??
No, but there's a good reason for that. Robotech isn't creating new fans at the moment so most Robotech fans are in their 40s. While lots of us would love to give our kids a toy, it's not a large enough market as basic toys make their money on volume while complex toys enjoy a steep mark-up.
Comment is so true. At 43 I loved ‘robotech’ as a kid. And my son likes watching Macross with me. We are avid toy collectors to an amateur degree...but I cringe when he looks at my mechs. :(

I still don't get why they can't make the palms well-articulated instead of providing additional palms that could easily get lost.
Any chance Scorched Earth that the info of that turn table shown at the start you used could be shared? Thank-you in any case for another great review.
Honestly, it's an AWFUL turn-table. It wobbles, it's noisy (I drop the audio track for the voice over), so I don't recommend it.

5:36 LOL I have never seen these Valkyries sell for $20.00. They always go for 3X the amount, during their initial release.
You could grab waves 1 and 2 for $14.99 pretty easily when the MSRP was $19.99. That was a long, long time ago.

Any way to fix the head if you broke it?
Those cracked polycaps look reminiscent of Bandai's Rockman X figures. Same issues.
Did you ever do a review on the other waves?
I updated the article for all waves here anymoon.com/blog/?p=4033 but the last video was wave 4 (Banpresto vs Toynami).
I would not touch these.
I had a full case of these Macross mechs and they just broke in random parts for the ones I'd opened.
I sold the rest for cheap and sealed in box - good to display in box but never to open them as they're just too fragile.
These things were throw away toys. They still are but now th charge $60 usd.
