I agree. I've gravitated towards indie games lately because it feels like they actually respect my time and don't overstay their welcome. I'm so tired of games having all this extra padding because people conflate completion time with value.
You're a true gamer. That's a lot of hours. The most hours I have in a game is around 90 hours in slay the spire. And that's a lot for a casual gamer like me.

I found out this game was coming out on Switch a couple days ago and I've never had so much excitement concentrated in such a short time. Just all my joy crunched into a hype-diamond!!!
I just saw this on the e-shop 15 minutes ago and I have to be honest. I skipped it because of the graphics. But now after your review I think I will have to pick this up. Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks as always for another great review ❤
Somehow this game turned out to be my most played title this year so far! Getting all chars with golden portrait (difficulty 5) is the true fun for me. This game beats vampire survivors for me and I loved that game also. Can't go wrong here! Excellent review

I am loving this game, because of you. It's my first time with this newer style of game and it is addictive as hell! After playing many similar games recently, this is still one of my favorite.
For anyone who wants an alternative to Brotato I would check out Spirit Hunters as it also released on Switch within a week or two and it's the other well regarded 'Survivor' style game on switch right now. It has lots of content and upgrades outside of the matches when you finish though so I like to swap between it and Brotato.
Only recently downloaded this on Pc and let me tell you guys - this review ain’t wrong. The game looks basic and boring but you WILL lose hours and possibly sleep to this. Superb game and a great review; I went through the exact same relationship with the auto-aim in my playthrough!

This game is $5 in the US. $5 is £3.94 today, yet this game to us in the UK is £5. How do software producers get away with ripping us off continously in the UK!? It maddens me! Maybe you guys could do a video about UK gamers in general being ripped off?
Thanks for making me aware of this game. I'm still playing it loads 5 months later. I can't put it down. My work break disappears in mere moments while I battle aliens with my turrets and smg's. I can't wait for possible sequel sistato at some point 👍
I personally love the visuals of Brotato! The unlocking of new characters in a way could also be considered cross progression. As long as I come in either improved (cross progression) or refreshed (new character or similar) the battles I've put myself through in the previous run were not invane.

This looks amazing!!! Been playing Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde and I don't need another cog in my backlog, but this definitely feels like a loading game which is perfect
I was able to use some Nintendo coins to grab this one and I have to say: it's brilliant. It's not quite mindless fun (which is the best kind of fun there is) but it's close enough and a great way to spend 20 minutes or so when you really should be doing other things (like the washing up). Thank you so much for reviewing this game, I doubt I'd have discovered it on my own.
Finally holy cow I've been waiting for this Like I've been waiting for this game since I saw the first trailer this should hold me over till vampire survivors
I've been looking forward to this one for awhile. The recently released "Spirit Hunters" has been holding me over pretty well as another well made Vampire Survivors -esque game, but I've heard so many good things about Brotato. Glad to hear to port is well done. A definite day one pickup for me.
Spirit Hunters is fantastic I actually grabbed that before Brotato released (enjoyed on PC) and then saw Bro so it's great to have 2 of these to play on switch now as I was stuck on pc for the others

Been playing on Android for a while, you need to try the character that can equip 12 weapons (no guns), I always go for 12 sticks it's amazingly insane. 👍🤘
Have to say this game is pretty sweet. I didn’t think it would be my cup of tea because of it taking place in one area arena with several waves, but definitely surprised. Went ahead and bought the bundle with space gladiators. Space gladiators is great too!
I have this game on steam and beaten all characters in the highest danger in around 160hrs and it was an absolute blast. Can't wait to pick it up on my switch now and repeat it all over again 😂
Lack of meta progression? The permanent upgrades are new gear and weapons after finishing a level 0 run with each character first time. You unlock new weapons you could not have before in your game. Those offer a LOT progress and make your game easier and more enjoyable.
Army of Ruin and Brotato are the best games i've played this year! ( And this is coming from a guy who had finished all the big AAA releases in 2023 ).
I though this year was going to be slow besides TOTK but it's been anything but. Besides the "big games" these are games I got on Switch this year(not all new but new or massive discounts). Have a Nice Death, Death or Treat, Curse of the Dead Gods, Madshot, Neon Abyss, Army of Ruin, Double Dragon Gaiden, Knights & Guns, Doomsday Hunters, Everspace, Going Under, Velocity 2x, and Dredge. Those aren't all of them but are the standouts for me. A few of those games have possibly hundreds of hours of playtime just by themselves. Now Brotato is almost here. Vampire Survivors and Blasphemous 2 are coming up. Dead Estate is supposed to come out this year on Switch, also the long awaited Void Rains Upon Her Heart is getting closer to a console release. I haven't even gotten Ember Knights yet. Oh and that game Mythforce looks to have potential as well!
I experience regular framerate drops beginning in later waves both handheld and docked. I don’t think it’s ever affected gameplay but it’s there and definitely noticeable. Other than that I’m enjoying the heck out of it!
Ironically i found pickle Pete on the android and that's the only swarm survivor clone where you can dodge. So far either spirit hunter or vampire survivors are my fave

I downloaded a little earlier. This is a phenomenal game. Two minor niggles for me though... One is the slow-down which gets more prevalent the further you proceed. The second (and I hope the developers are reading!) - I think there needs to be a shortcut to start the next Wave while in the shop. Perhaps the X button? Navigating the shop is a little clunky. Overall I'm very impressed with this. One of my favourite games on the Switch.
Oh so there's indeed performance issues at deeper levels? This isn't like VS where performance problems comes when you become absolutely broken. But in this game could be a death sentence. But how severe are the slowdowns and how does it impact the gameplay?

This is the first game I’ve ever 100%’d on Steam. Couldn’t stop playing, so fun! Each character has such a different way of playing.

Good taste Spirit hunters is basically the other high quality survivors game next to Brotato on the switch.

I have it on my phone. Its decent enough. Very barebones with level design. All u do is fight in a square. That pretty much killed it quickly for me.

I love Brotato, Spirit Hunters, Halls of Torment and Vampire survivors but Void Scrappers seemed so basic? Maybe I need to give it another shot

I got this on pc, it is fun. My only gripe about it is the lack of incremental progression like permanent upgrades.
