Review by Bill of Curious Cars
Vehicle owned privately, and may soon be for sale on auction. - Авто та транспорт
My mother was never a car person, until age 70 when the first "New Beetle" came out (1999). Her last 3 cars were New Beetles. They brought her joy and I was happy for her. And thankfully we were able to talk her out of her other fascination... the PT Cruiser.
Nothing smells like an ancient Volkswagen.
This one has the odor of globalism.
VW Beetle.. the Gay man's Cadillac
@@terryrobertson111
LoLs!
or the odor of crayons?
Thank stinks man!
Globalism its a German car.
Bill, you should know by now, we come to listen to you, the cars are just something to look at while listening. Keep the videos coming. Thanks Bill.
exactly, I hate Volkswagen cars, but Im still going to watch this..
Well said
Accurate
RIGHT!!!!????!!!
I wanna give you a thumbs up, but...69
Bill the kind of guy who pours whiskey on his cornflakes.
Heheheeee
The old kind of people, like my father and grandfather...
This was a pretty funny episode. Bill is a master at wry humor.
Makes sense. Whisky is corn.
Bailey's
After my Grandfather passed, I inherited his 2013 Beetle Fender Edition with 8,700 miles. I love the car. Only Beetle or VW for that matter I'd ever drive, but it's fun.
Have fun paying for the inevitable monster repair bills, after 50,000 miles or so...The Jetta/Golf platform was fun to drive, but a bitch to keep running. I do like the concept though!
In about 70k miles more on your VW I doubt you will love it when the intake manifold, water pump, fuel pump, timing cover goes bad and every time you take it to the shop it is nearly 1k repair bill. Trust me I have the same car and it just falls apart at 80k to 100k miles.
So you wouldn't drive a Phaeton?
@@curbozerboomer1773 your comment is very true. I have has the same experience with my 2013 VW beetle
Hearing Bill acting like a regular used car salesman for a couple of minutes was awesome
I had 3 Beetles from this gen (and 3 New Beetles) and these were superior by far. They were all solid, reliable, fun and practical for a coupe. Anyone whose pride is hurt by driving this car needs to smile a bit more haha
Agreed. Nothing so sad as guys who associate a car with their manhood (or lack thereof)
And use the flower vase (if equipped) 😉
I think it's just a schtick on Bill's part... otherwise he's the most insecure man in the world
@@lptomtom I have no doubt that it's a schtick on Bill's part, but it's always alarming to see how many commenters don't get that.
So agreed!
A 20 minute piece?! Bill hasn't done such a lightning quick take since back when he dubbed in music from his favorite Asian massage parlour! Still love it tho!
I’m wondering where part 2 of this is? 20 minutes doesn’t even leave time for a car review 🤷♂️
You can tell he wasn't enjoying himself one bit, otherwise it would've gone longer
Or, since his snowflake nephew told him to shorten the goddamn videos!
This comment is for the real ones. 👏🏼
The only car review channel with a built-in weather app😂
that is a money making idea, bill doing the weather ...lol
@@vatorob702Rated not-safe-for-work, especially during the summer months.
The addendum at the end made this video worth watching. Bill your rants always make my day, and this didn't disappoint! Keep being the everyman hero and keep the videos coming. A+
Bill is the best car reviewer on the internet! Honest and relatable
He certainly is the most enjoyable one, most of the cars he reviews suck, but who cares?
As a straight male in my 50's who owns one of these cars, I found this review very funny :-D Yet, I don't own it because it's retro, and I'm not a flight attendant. I just like the car as it stands by itself, without reference to anything else. It's like an Audi TT that's easier to get in and out of.
Bill is the kind of guy who researches and delivers fuller and more accurate information about a car he hates than Doug can be bothered to deliver about a car he loves
I owned an earlier model, loved it, and I regret letting it go. It was fun!
I didn't hate the new beetles, I thought they were decent looking, but never rode in one.
I have one a friend bought new in '07, and I thought it would feel thin and cheap, but it feels heavy and substantial...the "softly sprung" Bill stated prob lends to that. And has premium touches, like under the rear wheel wheels it has that felt lining my friends Audi A4 convertible has to reduce gravel and road noise, and w/heated leather, power top, etc., it feels surprisingly upmarket...and that's coming from a W140 owner. And w/the 5 cyl and auto-manual trans, it feels powerful and expensive. But it's a ton of problems, like 50 warning lights, and overly complicated...so I haven't driven it in 5 yrs., and hope to get all the warning lights off long enough to sell it in the Spring. I have one mechanic who refuses to work on it. The car is a pain in the ass really. Granted, '07 is the 2nd gen. of the new Beetle, this the 3rd, but still the same formula.
I owned a Fender edition Turbo the car drove amazing like a mini Audi I wasn’t even planning on buying one but it was on the showroom floor it looked Gorgeous so I asked to take a test drive … I bought it that day.
My wife has one of those and, yeah, I can freely admit that they don’t have one drop of testosterone in them but if you can move past that fact, you’re going to find they are nothing but fun to drive! With the top down, they feel much faster than they really are. The steering feels light to the touch but also feels very confident on the road. I have never experienced any negative experiences from other motorists out on the road. I’d say they still have a little bit of the old VW Beetle spirit of providing some entertainment out on the road that people generally respond to. If some old Florida Republican lady is giving you dirty looks, she’s probably just jealous (as they typically are) of anyone or anything capable of being fun! My biggest complaint about them is the front seat don’t give any real support and lumbar cushions are a must for me for any drives over 20-30 minutes. Otherwise, what is to hate? If you’re not an old conservative?
As far as Beetles go the color and wheels look fantastic.
My 17 yr old refused one of these. Preferred the 99 camry
Smart kid.
This is probably the best looking one I've ever seen! I like it! Thanks Bill
Bill is the kind of guy that would purchase a vehicle with smokers package for all passengers, beer holders, and a complimentary concealed weapons compartment as a deal 🤣😉😎
20min review? It's just a warm up in Curious Cars world.
That is usually a weather and fauna preamble 😅
Bill is by far the most honest car reviewer out there. Gotta love him for that!!
Am I the only guy that checks the length of the video after Bill says “I’m going to do a quick take”?
Yeah, but I'm disappointed if they're actually quick. I don't want them to end.
Nope you're not. Same here.
Sure isn't the same when Bill is happy with the weather.
I love how Bill segued from the complimentary test drive to how he really felt!! And this 65-year-old woman would never drive one of those, and the hippy era was when I was much younger than driving age of 17. I miss the old cars, too, Bill!
I happen to like the car , tad Porche like l love the colour and chrome 😍
Bill, we will be here for whatever video you have. We showed up for the golf cart video, this Beetle ain't no different! Keep 'em coming!!!
My daughter and I, miss our 2011 convertible, which was t-boned/totaled, solid car no injury for her, but much fun top down. 😅
I like the color combo, I guess. I have a theory that the designer of these VWs went on to design the PT Cruiser convertible, the Murano convertible, and ultimately that Land Rover Evoque convertible, with each subsequent vehicle getting progressively more butch.
Agree, the parchment interior and top contrasts nicely with the blue body and interior accents.
2019 Beetle... I'm somehow both surprised to find out they were still making this in 2019 and surprised they no longer make these.
Went back through this man’s all videos! All 7 years! He has yet to do a review on a Gbody! Come on Bill! I expect one soon!
Good evening Bill from Ron in a very cold but sunny Manchester. Wow! Two videos in two days
A dude in my neighborhood used to drive around in his pink Cabriolet with The Village People blaring out his speakers,no kidding!😂
I miss my 1969 Karmen Ghia, 1972 Porsche 914, and 1973 VW Bug, all great cars. As a goat expert, Bill, the goats on your logo are dear to my heart.
Bill: no need to apologize for this choice of car. VW did a great job restyling their new Beetle, still keeping its unique personality. I didn't realize this car was such an image-buster!
Birds , bugs,beetles,bunnys, n bourbon!
Oh and Bill 🤣
Oh my.....
Oh awefull
u musta got one of those yellow "dummy" books on alliteration
I've been in Naples and the everglades. The birds are scandalous there. They are in route to Detroit shortly for sure. Seen them sitting on alligators heads fishing like they own everything around. Big Beaks Bird Bill's 🐦
You are correct in how many of these types of cars are owned by people you dont really want to hang around with.... Except for those that arent. Those few are generally absolute legends.
Bill wasn't lying when he said this was going to be a short vid. In fairness to VW they started the retro modern craze in the 90's bringing back the Beetle, the retro Challenger came after.
I knew a few people who bought one of these newer versions and they all reported that they were horribly unreliable and broke down constantly
That's part of the bug experience.
It’s all part of the VW experience, not just a new beetle lol.
German cars blow.
I’ve had this version of the beetle since 2012 and haven’t had any issues with it. Now my 1998 and 2001 beetles were junk.
This video is a beautifully crafted masterpiece of condescending humor. Well done Bill. This is entertainment! 😂
I had a Turbo from this generation and it’s honestly been one of the best vehicles I’ve ever owned
Is this your first vehicle? 🤣 JK!
Same here! This generation beetle is very reliable. Now my 98 and 2001 beetles were junk.
I love this...... Bill's honesty is so refreshing! Yea....get a Vista Cruiser!!!
20,000 views so far. Keep the videos coming. We appreciate them and you.
Sure, I'd rather see a Grand national or other classic. But your unique car overviews will always be enjoyed.
Bill is the kind of guy who goes to the gas station and only fills the tank to half-full.
Either way, interesting content! :)
I bought one of first 'New Beetles' sold in my city. A 1998 with the diesel and 5 speed. It was great little car. Almost everyone wanted to talk to me about and go down memory lane with the Beetles they owned.
My wife bought one when they came out in '98. She traded it for a convertible in '04. Desiring a bigger trunk, she traded it for a hardtop in 2012 and still has it today. She loves the car. All three of them have been completely trouble free. Gee whiz Bill...well, I guess you're just being Bill.😊
A much better buy would be the bicest used Boxter that you can possibly find and afford if you want an experience more inline with what the essence of a Beetle was with Porsche performance.
Thanks Bill! Always look forward to your videos!😂👍
Bill Hates this car BIG TIME, You can hear it in his voice....
This car shouldn't exist......🤣
I remember the Tesla Bill reviewed a few months ago. His most entertaining reviews are the ones for cars that he despises.
@@a.s.4914 Sales department would disagree. The new Beetle peaked in sales 8 years after the debut, selling over 43000 units.
@@timomomomo969 no, Bill said that. How's that for a salesman....I hate it, it shouldn't even exist....so, can we start the paperwork? 🤣
The old bugs could float 😮
They definitely could float
But not indefinitely
Know a lady who tried in Goose Creek in VA, back in '78. Didn't work😂
My mother in law would love this car… and she’s lovely.
Bill it's always worth it to watch your videos to me. Your one of the few that make me feel more sane at my age of 52, and also make me truly laugh out loud. I would almost watch you review a Kia, Ok I would definitely watch and listen to You review anything.
10:48 "Toddlers would be better in the trunk"...LOL😂
I bought two for my wife, over the years. They’re not horrible cars by any means. We also don’t necessarily tune in to see the cars. We do check in to see what Bill thinks about these particular cars.
12:43 - Wow Bill! You know what a Hammond Organ is! I’m most impressed. I totally dig that sound and own one of those. Your music references are awesome, as are your car reviews.
Keep up the good work.
"... and then Air Supply comes on." 🤣
Always get a laugh regardless of the vehicle. Thanks again Bill! We all appreciate you. Keep 'em coming please.
Don't beat on the Beetle! I like this one, it's very smooth and elegant and I used to drive a 2000 Turbo model. Fun times.
I think it looks better than the previous "new" Beetle, but a real Bug doesn't have a radiator!
Thanks for this one, BIll ! Well... I thought I would add to this, but having finally caught up to the video... well.. yeah.. Sorry.. I got nothing.. .. Bill, as one 20th century guy to another, I really just don't get this era.. At all.. Oh well.. here we are.. what are you gonna do?.. Well here's looking forward to the next 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix, or 1964 Cadillac or 1968 Polara or 1971 Riviera.. take care.. (I'm a 1957 model)
Finally, a 20 minute video from Bill. :D
Got 2018 black with tan cabrio and loving it. sure is a keeper.
I wish Volkswagen would bring back the Karmann Ghia. I’ve had a few old Beetles and a Ghia. While I learned to drive and repair cars on old VWs, the Karmann Ghia qualifies as one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
HEYYY BILL...You Know what we REALLY NEED...More of the "BILL'S GREATEST HITS" vids!!!! LoloL
I'll watch anything you review
BILL ANY REVIEW YOU DO IS SO SPECIAL, EVEN IF IT'S JUST SEVEN OF US WATCHING, LOL, I AM SURE 150 K OF US LISTEN TO IIT. GREAT JOB ALL THE SAME.
Nice car! Thanks for the brief review
Hey I own a few Hammond organs. Bill you gained another fan!!!!!!!!
Bill, you made me laugh my ass off with the Air Supply comment! Thank you for making my day!
Good video as usual. If you get the hardtop hatchback, then fold the backseats down you got a pretty decent hatchback vehicle. That’s fun to drive. I’ve had a couple of them. The five cylinder with a stick shift is the way to go. They’re a blast.
I don't know what your problem with it is. I guess you think it's a cat lady car, and yeah, it does appeal to them, but it's also very cool looking, seems to have good quality. (just saw addendum) Okay, that explains it.
I did the color copying for the VW Ads for the new Beetle in 1999 for the Ad Company Arnold World wide (I worked at the Copy Cop across the street). When I brought over the copies the executive assistant asked, "WHERE IS THE EXPLOTATION AD?" She was referring to the ad with the VW BUS crying and the Birth and Death Dates of Jerry Garcia
Color-coordinated dash! A throwback to the days of great interiors.
Bill good video, not a fan of VW but a fan of you. keep up the great work I watch every video. love your take on all things automotive related or not I could watch a video of you reviewing a phone book
I've sometimes been accused of coming too soon but never not soon enough.....
I love the BEETLE, especially the convertible version.
I have a 2016 Beetle Dune..... and I love it!
The (Golf) platform must be very stiff, it doesn't seem to need much additional strengthening.
Why would some complain about your video? It’s enjoyable- and it appeals to me, a car guy.
Nice color combo...
cool car!
Hi Bill, short question i will be soon in Ft Myers. i love to screw around on car junkyards. are there any around Ft Myers/Naples? Hunting for some spares on a Golf 4 and a Mercedes W124.
Thanks a lot and keep doing these cool videos. love your comments
G.
That's gorgeous. As a fan of convertibles I'd gladly buy and drive one of those.
100%
Thank you bill!
Good morning Bill from a "toasty" 8ºF in the Canadian Rockies l*l.
Bill you crack me up! I’m up for a vacation and the kids and I normally head to ft Lauderdale… I think I will look you up. I will have an extra Perdomo for ya!
...Bill, tell us how you really feel about this car. This vid is one of your best!
That's absolutely 💯 gorgeous
Bill is a legend. 😊
I like the beetle! The convertible looks especially fun.
If I could, I would buy this one, and ship it to my home on Vancouver Island.
Road trip.
Came to hear Bill kvetch about the weather and all other things SW FL👍🏻
Say what you will but I really like this. Inside and out, top up or top drown. If I saw this on the road it would be a real head turner in a good way. I would happily own this and have it as a fun weekend driver.
Love these!
Common bill, give us a break this time ok? Are you saying we’re losers if we love that beautiful beetle? That car is so nice and people would love me and not shy away from me. I still love most beautiful upscale cars too!🤨
Nice bettle Bill , I even like this style it looks elegant as hell ❤ love the rims
I had a 12 Beetle with the 200hp turbo 2.0 and the 6 speed manual. That sucker was a blast to drive. 12 Turbos were basically like bodied GTIs. I am no fan of the convertible though and glad mine had the carbon fiber style trim instead of body color and was comparatively basic with the options. Try one of those.
My 2000 beetle, beautiful neon blue lighting inside ,’STAYED IN THE shop consistently w/electronic problems
have you done a E-golf review? :)
I admit it. I watched it Bill. I Watched the Whole thing.
I'd almost consider one of these, in hardtop form except for the complicated combined super/turbo charged component. You are HILARIOUS Mate. Especially about drugs in the Beetle Bin! Can you hear me laughing from Australia? FYI, I love Aussie band Air Supply!
